Eco-driving campaigns have traditionally assumed that drivers lack the necessary knowledge and skills and that this is something that needs rectifying. Therefore, many support systems have been designed to closely guide drivers and fine-tune their proficiency. However, research suggests that drivers already possess a substantial amount of the necessary knowledge and skills regarding eco-driving. In previous studies, participants used these effectively when they were explicitly asked to drive fuel-efficiently. In contrast, they used their safe driving skills when they were instructed to drive as they would normally. Hence, it is assumed that many drivers choose not to engage purposefully in eco-driving in their everyday lives. The aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of simple, periodic text messages (nine messages in 2 weeks) on drivers’ eco- and safe driving performance. It was hypothesised that provision of eco-driving primes and advice would encourage the activation of their eco-driving mental models and that comparable safety primes increase driving safety. For this purpose, a driving simulator experiment was conducted. All participants performed a pre-test drive and were then randomly divided into four groups, which received different interventions. For a period of 2 weeks, one group received text messages with eco-driving primes and another group received safety primes. A third group received advice messages on how to eco-drive. The fourth group were instructed by the experimenter to drive fuel-efficiently, immediately before driving, with no text message intervention. A post-test drive measured behavioural changes in scenarios deemed relevant to eco- and safe driving. The results suggest that the eco-driving prime and advice text messages did not have the desired effect. In comparison, asking drivers to drive fuel-efficiently led to eco-driving behaviours. These outcomes demonstrate the difficulty in changing ingrained habits. Future research is needed to strengthen such messages or activate existing knowledge and skills in other ways, so driver behaviour can be changed in cost-efficient ways.  相似文献

The paper describes various analytical and numerical models which have been used to predict the quantities of water flowing into underground mines. Analytical models of flow into wells are discussed briefly and their limitations when applied to mine water flow are listed. Numerical models designed specifically for underground mines are examined in detail under the three categories of water resource models, mine water models and methane and water models. The extent to which the available numerical models are applicable to British longwall coal mining operations is considered and the need for further work is identified.  相似文献

The paper decribes results of mathematical investigations into the prediction of mine water inflows to longwall coal workings. Numerical calculations are reported on the basis of experimentally deduced hydraulic conductivities above longwall panels. The effect of longwall working on hydraulic conductivities is investigated by mathematical analyses of stress and failure. Numerical calculations of mine water inflows are reported on the basis of mathematically inferred hydraulic conductivities. Results are correlated with field data.  相似文献

This case describes ventricular proarrhythmia as a result of a synchronized internal atrial defibrillation shock in a 29-year-old man with Ebstein's anomaly referred for radiofrequency ablation of a right posterior accessory pathway. During the electrophysiologic study, atrial fibrillation was induced and 3/3 msec shocks of various strengths were delivered between two decapolar defibrillation catheters in the coronary sinus and right atrial appendage. A 2.0-J biphasic shock synchronized to an R wave after a short-long-short ventricular cycle length pattern with a preshock coupling interval of 245 msec induced ventricular fibrillation, which was externally defibrillated with 200 J. This observation has implications for the development of implantable atrial defibrillators.  相似文献

Motivated by ongoing developments in aero-engine technology, a model for a coupled gas-lubricated bearing is developed in terms of an extended dynamical system. A slip boundary condition, characterised by a slip length, is incorporated on the bearing faces which can be relevant for operation in non-ideal extreme conditions, notably where external vibrations or disturbances could destabilise the bearing. A modified Reynolds equation is formulated to model the gas flow, retaining the effects of centrifugal inertia which is increasingly important for high-speed operation, and is coupled to the structural equations; spring-mass-damper systems model the axial stator and rotor displacements. A novel model is developed corresponding to a bearing experiencing an external random force to evaluate the resulting induced displacements of the bearing components. The minimum face clearance is obtained from a mapping solver for the modified Reynolds equation and structural equations simultaneously. In the case of random excitations, the solver is combined with a Monte Carlo technique. Evaluation of the average value of the minimum gap and the probability of the gap reaching a prescribed tolerance are provided. Extensive insight is given on the effect of key bearing parameters on the corresponding bearing dynamics.  相似文献

This article considers the numerical analysis of thin films flowing on an inclined plane with an opening (a gap) at the bottom of the plane, representing an outlet. The film is subject to gravitational force and a constant surface shear stress at the film surface. The present problem can be regarded as a special draining-type problem, in which there is a flow bifurcation from one side of the domain (inlet flux) to the outlet and the other side of the domain. The thin film flow is modelled as governed by the two-dimensional Stokes system of equations and an investigation into the effects of surface tension, surface shear stress and geometry variation on the flow of the film into an outlet is attempted. Numerical simulations are obtained in terms of a direct boundary element method (BEM) with primitive variables of velocity and surface traction.  相似文献

The relation between accuracy of 3-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) in determining left ventricular end-diastolic volume, end-systolic volume, and ejection fraction (compared with magnetic resonance imaging) and the number of component planes used for 3DE ventricular reconstruction was evaluated in 41 adult subjects with normal (n = 24) and abnormal (n = 17) left ventricles. Accuracy and confidence of 3DE gradually increased with use of additional component planes, so that > or = 10 planes from both parasternal and apical windows provided 3DE reconstructions that accurately predict magnetic resonance imaging-measured left ventricular volumes and ejection fraction with confidence.  相似文献

In this work, we determine the different patterns of possible wave structures that can be observed on a thin film flowing on an inclined plane when at the free surface a shear force (surface traction) is applied. Different wave structures are obtained dependening on the selected combination of downstream and upstream boundary conditions and initial conditions. The resulting initial boundary value problems are solved numerically using the direct BEM numerical solution of the complete two‐dimensional Stokes system of equations. In our numerical results, the initial discontinuous shock profiles joining uniform fluid depths are smoothed due to the two‐dimensional character of the Stokes formulation, including the effect of the gravitational force as well as the interfacial surface tension force. In this way, physically feasible continuous surface profiles are determined, in which the initial uniform depths are joined by smooth moving wave structures. Numerical solutions have been attained to reproduce the different patterns of possible wave structures previously reported in the literature and extended to identify some other new structures and features defining the behaviour of the surface patterns.
