Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) has previously been shown to selectively dilate the mesenteric vascular bed, without affecting other vascular beds. Pancreatic blood flow and islet blood flow were therefore measured separately with a microsphere technique in the two regions of the rat pancreas perfused by the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) or celiac artery (CA) respectively. Intravenous infusion of CRF (0.25 microgram/kg b.w./min) caused an increase in both whole pancreatic blood flow and islet blood flow in the region of the pancreas perfused by the SMA. The fraction of whole pancreatic blood flow diverted through the islets in this part of the pancreas was, however, unaffected by CRF infusion (approximately 10%). CRF did not change either pancreatic or islet blood flow in the CA-perfused part of the pancreas, and did not affect the release of insulin. 相似文献

Tensile creep measurements at constant load on nonoriented polyethylene have shown a marked transition at a certain stress level from a neck formation followed by instantaneous fracture to the formation of a neck which resists fracture for a considerable time. The transition, which shifts towards shorter time and higher nominal stress with increasing molecular weight, has been studied for 16 polyethylenes of different molecular weights, degrees of branching and crystalline structures. The marked. transition has only been observed for high density polyethylene of high molecular weight. Deformation measurements show a more distinct necking for the high density than for the medium density polyethylenes. This is consistent with current molecular deformation theories. A hypothesis for the transition is proposed based on the distinctness of the neck process in the high density polyethylene and the large difference in strength between the spherulitic structure and the fibrillar structure. The dependence of the transition on molecular weight is expected since the number of tic chains incrcrtses with increasing molecular weight. 相似文献

Model calculations on the ellipsometric memory are presented. The ellipsometric memory is an n-bit optical memory whose information is extracted by use of the ellipsometric principle. The memory cells of the device consist of thin-film multilayer structures, and the information of each memory cell is contained in the optical properties of the thin films. Several thin-film multilayer structures were examined in order to find out how different choices of layer materials and other system parameters such as layer thicknesses and wavelength affect resolutions and limitations of the ellipsometric memory. Such calculations are also useful for optimizing the readout resolution. It was found that it is possible to use memory cells having up to at least eight layers, which would permit 8-bit words to be stored at each location. It was also found that, in principle, several types of materials can be used as layer materials, and various aspects of different choices of materials are discussed. 相似文献

We apply the MODE (method of direction estimation) principle to the forward–backward (FB) covariance of the output vector of a sensor array to obtain what we call the FB-MODE procedure. The derivation of FB-MODE is an interesting exercise in matrix analysis, the outcome of which was somewhat unexpected: FB-MODE simply consists of applying the standard MODE approach to the eigenelements of the FB sample covariance matrix. By using an asymptotic expansion technique we also establish the surprising result that FB-MODE is outperformed, from a statistical standpoint, by the standard MODE applied to the forward-only sample covariance (F-MODE). We believe this to be an important result that shows that the FB approach, which proved quite useful for improving the performance of many suboptimal array processing methods, shouldnotbe used with a statistically optimal method such as F-MODE. 相似文献

There are hundreds of thousands of moth species with crucial ecological roles that are often obscured by their nocturnal lifestyles. The pigmentation and appearance of moths are dominated by cryptic diffuse shades of brown. In this study, 82 specimens representing 26 moth species were analysed using infrared polarimetric hyperspectral imaging in the range of 0.95–2.5 µm. Contrary to previous studies, we demonstrate that since infrared light does not resolve the surface roughness, wings appear glossy and specular at longer wavelengths. Such properties provide unique reflectance spectra between species. The reflectance of the majority of our species could be explained by comprehensive models, and a complete parametrization of the spectral, polarimetric and angular optical properties was reduced to just 11 parameters with physical units. These parameters are complementary and, compared with the within-species variation, were significantly distinct between species. Counterintuitively to the aperture-limited resolution criterion, we could deduce microscopic features along the surface from their infrared properties. These features were confirmed by electron microscopy. Finally, we show how our findings could greatly enhance opportunities for remote identification of free-flying moth species, and we hypothesize that such flat specular wing targets could be expected to be sensed over considerable distances. 相似文献

HIV-2, compared to HIV-1, elicits potent and broadly neutralizing antibodies, and uses a broad range of co-receptors. However, both sensitivity to neutralization and breadth of co-receptor use varies between HIV-2 isolates, and the molecular background is still not fully understood. Thus, in the current study, we have deciphered relationships between HIV-2 neutralization sensitivity, co-receptor use and viral envelope glycoprotein (Env) molecular motifs. A panel of primary HIV-2 isolates, with predefined use of co-receptors, was assessed for neutralization sensitivity using a set of HIV-2 Env-directed monoclonal antibodies and co-receptor indicator cell lines. Neutralization sensitivity of the isolates was analysed in relation target cell co-receptor expression, in addition to amino acid motifs and predicted structures of Env regions. Results showed that HIV-2 isolates were more resistant to neutralizing antibodies when entering target cells via the alternative co-receptor GPR15, as compared to CCR5. A similar pattern was noted for isolates using the alternative co-receptor CXCR6. Sensitivity to neutralizing antibodies appeared also to be linked to specific Env motifs in V1/V2 and C3 regions. Our findings suggest that HIV-2 sensitivity to neutralization depends both on which co-receptor is used for cell entry and on specific Env motifs. The reduced intraoperative visibility of minimally invasive implanted unicondylar knee arthroplasty makes it difficult to remove bone and cement debris, which have been reported on the surface of damaged and retrieved bearings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the influence of bone and cement particles on the wear rate of unicompartmental knee prostheses in vitro. Fixed bearing unicompartmental knee prostheses were tested using a knee-wear-simulator according to the ISO standard 14243-1:2002(E) for 5.0 million cycles. Afterwards bone debris (particle size 671 ± 262 μm) were added to the test fluid in a concentration of 5 g/l for 1.5 million cycles, followed by 1.5 million cycles blended with cement debris (particle size 644 ± 186 μm) in the same concentration. Wear rate, knee-kinematics and wear-pattern were analyzed. The wear rate reached 12.5 ± 1.0 mm3/million cycles in the running-in and decreased during the steady state phase to 4.4 ± 0.91 mm3/million cycles. Bone particles resulted in a wear rate of 3.0 ± 1.27 mm3/million cycles with no influence on the wear rate compared to the steady state phase. Cement particles, however, lead to a significantly higher wear rate (25.0 ± 16.93 mm3/million cycles) compared to the steady state phase. The careful removal of extruded cement debris during implantation may help in reducing wear rate. Bone debris are suggested to have less critical influence on the prostheses wear rate. 相似文献

The focus of this work is to investigate whether a previously developed microkinetic deactivation model for hydrothermally treated Fe‐BEA as NH3‐SCR catalyst can be applied to describe chemical deactivation of Fe‐BEA due to phosphorous exposure. The model describes the experiments well for Fe‐BEA before and after phosphorous exposure by decreasing the site density, representing deactivation of sites due to formation of metaphosphates blocking the active iron sites, while the kinetic parameters are kept constant. Furthermore, the results show that the activity for low‐temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is very sensitive to loss of active monomeric iron species due to phosphorous poisoning compared to high‐temperature SCR. Finally, the ammonia inhibition simulations show that exposure to phosphorous may affect the internal transport of ammonia between ammonia storage sites buffering the active iron sites, which results in a lower SCR performance during transient conditions. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 215–223, 2015 相似文献

A rotational parallel plate rheometer that enables simultaneous measurement of the transient or steady-state rheological properties and infrared dichroism was designed and constructed to study orientation in molten polymers. Measurements can be carried out at shear rates between 0.05 and 300 s−1 and at temperatures between 20 and 300°C. Both shear stress and axial normal force together with dichroism are continuously measured during shear flow. Infrared dichroism data for polypropylene showed excellent agreement with data obtained with a FTIR-instrument. The Hermans orientation function for molten poly(dimethyl siloxane) at steady state showed a strong shear-rate dependence in the region 0.1−20 s−1. Rheological data for molten poly(dimethyl siloxane) agrees with data obtained from a conventional rheometer. 相似文献
