OBJECTIVES: This study examined US trends in nutrient intake, using almost identical methods and nutrient databases in two time periods. METHODS: An extensive dietary intake questionnaire was included in supplements to the 1987 and 1992 National Health Interview Surveys. Dietary data from approximately 11,000 persons in each of those years were analyzed. RESULTS: The total and saturated fat intake and the percentage of energy from fat declined among Whites and Hispanics, but only minimal changes were seen in Black Americans. The changes in fat intake were attributable principally to behavioral changes in frequency and type of fat-containing foods consumed rather than to the increased availability of leaner cuts of meat. Dietary cholesterol showed one of the largest declines of the nutrients examined. Less desirable changes were also seen. Cereal fortification played an important role in the observed changes in several micronutrients. CONCLUSIONS: Educational campaigns on dietary fat and cholesterol have been moderately effective, but not in all racial/ethnic groups. Future campaigns should emphasize maintaining or increasing micronutrient intake.  相似文献

The thiamine pyrophosphatase (TPPase) activity described by Novikoff and Goldfisher was examined in osteoclasts affected by calcitonin in order to elucidate whether the morphological and functional changes of the osteoclasts have an influence over the secretion function of their Golgi apparatus. The Golgi apparatus of osteoclasts of which the ruffled border had disappeared and bone resorption discontinued as the result of treatment with calcitonin showed a slight TPPase activity. The reaction products of the enzyme in these inactive osteoclasts were distinctly fewer than that of control osteoclasts, which were not affected by calcitonin. From these results, it is suggested that there may be a connection between the morphological and functional changes of osteoclasts and the secretion function of the Golgi apparatus.  相似文献

An ultrahigh-speed 8 bit multiplexer (MUX) has been developed for future-generation optical-fiber communication systems having a data rate of 20 Gb/s. This IC was fabricated using a 0.5 μm WNx/W-gate GaAs MESFET process based on optical lithography, ion implantation, and furnace annealing for good reproducibility and high throughput. The WNx/W bilayer gate has a low sheet resistance, improving the circuit high frequency performance. To attain 20 GHz operation, advanced circuit techniques for the source-coupled FET logic (SCFL) were introduced. A cross coupled source-follower (CCSF) was developed mainly for the highest speed buffers to enhance the bandwidth. The behaviour of copper ions in low thermal expansion glass-ceramics prepared from Cu2O · Al2O3 ·nSiO2 glasses, or in-spodumene type Cu2O · Ae2O3 ·nSiO2 crystals included in the glass-ceramics on heating in air was investigated. On hewing at 300 to 500° C, the copper ions behaved as in the corresponding glasses. Cuprous ions in the glass-ceramics or-spondumene type crystals were oxidized into the cupric state, and at the same time an equal amount of cuprous ions to those oxidized were expelled out of the specimen for the requirement of electrical charge neutrality and then reacted with oxygen to form CuO on the surface. The oxidation of cuprous ions and the decrease of the copper content of the-spondumene type crystals brought about a considerable decrease in the lattice spooings.  相似文献

This paper describes relationships between characteristics of a magnetically anisotropic slot wedge and voltage higher harmonics in an ac exciting synchronous generator terminal due to permeance ripple caused by an open-slot-type rotor. From the relationships obtained, practical guidelines were formulated for machine designs applying the magnetically anisotropic slot wedge. The results are as follows.
  • 1 (1) Equivalent permeability of the magnetically anisotropic slot wedge became isotropic wedge permeability for air-gap flux ripple.
  • 2 (2) Two ways were identified to reduce voltage-higher harmonics by using the slot wedges.
  • 3 (3) The level of leakage flux passing through the anisotropic slot wedge was determined only by its permeability in the width direction.
  • 4 (4) Effectiveness of the magnetic anisotropic slot wedges inserted into the stator slots was verified from experimental results using a model machine of the open- slot-type rotor.

In order to determine the activities of phosphorus and iron in liquid {Cu‐Fe‐P} alloys, the two coexisting phases of liquid {Cu‐Fe‐P} alloys + <Cu‐Fe‐P> solid solutions were brought into equilibrium with a mixture of Al2O3 + AlPO4 + FexAl2O4 at temperatures of 1416K and 1526K. The oxygen partial pressures were measured with the aid of a solid‐oxide galvanic cell of the type: (+)Mo / Mo + MoO2/ ZrO2(MgO) / {Cu‐Fe‐P} + <Cu‐Fe‐P> + <Al2O3> + <AlPO4> + <FeAl2O4> / Fe(‐) The equilibrium reactions underlying the experiments can be expressed by 2[P]cu + (5/2) (O2) + <Al2O3> = 2 <AlPO4> and x[Fe]Cu + (1/2) (O2) + <Al2O3> = <FexAl2O4> The Henrian activity coefficient referred to 1 wt pct solution in pure liquid copper could be well expressed by the formula log fP° = (4.46±0.40) ‐ (8.67±0.59)/(T/K). The iron activities referred to pure solid iron could be formulated as log aFe =‐ (0.37 ± 0.12) + (500 ±200) /(T/K).  相似文献
