Generalized matchings for preferences represented by simplest semiorder: Stability and pareto optimality

We consider an extension of the classical model of generalized Gale-Shapley matchings. The model describes a two-sided market: on one side, universities each of which has a restriction on the number of enrolled students; on the other side, applicants each of which can get a single place in the university. Both applicants and universities have preferences with respect to the desired distribution. We assume that each applicant constructs a linear order on the set of desired universities, and each university has preferences that are simplest semiorders For this modification, we show that a stable matching always exists. Moreover, we formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for Pareto optimality of the stable matching.     

Effectiveness and Physical Characteristics of Machining Fluid

The effectiveness of four water-based machining fluids is studied as a function of their physical properties. Mathematical formulas are derived for optimal selection of machining fluids.     

An extension of pulse shaping filter theory

The article presents a simple alternative approach to pulse shaping filters with ISI-free matched (white noise case) and unmatched filter properties. A Nyquist (1928) 1 filter in closed form is proved to be ISI-free with or without matched filtering when its complex transfer function is derived from an initially given Nyquist 1 filter. The simplicity of the application of this procedure is illustrated by an example

Formation and structural phase transitions of mesoporous Al<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript> and TiO<Subscript>2</Subscript>/Al<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript> xerogels under hydrothermal conditions

We have studied the effect of the hydrothermal synthesis temperature on Al₂O₃ structure formation and examined the role of the phase composition of the precursor gel and surfactant in the formation of the pore structure of Al₂O₃. A technique has been proposed for the synthesis of TiO₂/Al₂O₃ binary xerogels, and the effect of TiO₂ content on the pore structure parameters and adsorption properties of TiO₂/Al₂O₃ has been investigated.     

Structure and wear regularities of coatings from composite metal-ceramic materials of the SiC-Al<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript>-Ni-Al system

The structure of coatings from composite material containing the SiC-Al₂O₃ wear-resistant component and a Ni-Al metallic binder has been investigated. The coatings have been produced by the high-velocity air fuel deposition (HVAF) onto medium-carbon steel. The tribotechnical characteristics of these coatings have been studied in dry friction in air and special features and regularities of their wear mechanisms have been defined.     

On thermal imaging application to control burning processes

A method of estimating the flame boundaries and structure is suggested on the basis of processing the thermal imaging films. The obtained sequences of thermal images represent digital matrices used to form three-dimensional arrays. The boundaries are estimated according to dispersion of temperature changes at each point of the image; the structure is identified based on characteristic frequency evaluated through fast Fourier transformation.     

Nyquist 1 universal filters

The Nyquist (1928) 1 filters (NFls) with both nonlinear phase response and amplitude response of nonspecified symmetry are investigated. It is shown that one of the filter's responses (amplitude or phase) can be chosen almost arbitrary. The second one is then derived from the condition of zero intersymbol interference (ISI) in data transmission synchronous systems. As a specific application of the presented theory, a simple procedure for calculating NFl's with ISI-free matched and unmatched filter properties is proposed
