The 1/f noise in photovoltaic (PV) molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE)-grown Hg1−xCdxTe double-layer planar heterostructure (DLPH) large-area detectors is a critical noise component with the potential to limit
sensitivity of the cross-track infrared sounder (CrIS) instrument. Therefore, an understanding of the origins and mechanisms
of noise currents in these PV detectors is of great importance. Excess low-frequency noise has been measured on a number of
1000-μm-diameter active-area detectors of varying “quality” (i.e., having a wide range of I-V characteristics at 78 K). The
1/f noise was measured as a function of cut-off wavelength under illuminated conditions. For short-wave infrared (SWIR) detectors
at 98 K, minimal 1/f noise was measured when the total current was dominated by diffusion with white noise spectral density
in the mid-10−15A/Hz1/2 range. For SWIR detectors dominated by other than diffusion current, the ratio, α, of the noise current in unit bandwidth
in(f = 1 Hz, Vd = −60 mV, and Δf = 1 Hz) to dark current Id(Vd = −60 mV) was αSW-d = in/Id ∼ 1 × 10−3. The SWIR detectors measured at 0 mV under illuminated conditions had median αSW-P = in/Iph ∼ 7 × 10−6. For mid-wave infrared (MWIR) detectors, αMW-d = in/Id ∼ 2 × 10−4, due to tunneling current contributions to the 1/f noise. Measurements on forty-nine 1000-μm-diameter MWIR detectors under
illuminated conditions at 98 K and −60 mV bias resulted in αMW-P = in/Iph = 4.16 ± 1.69 × 10−6. A significant point to note is that the photo-induced noise spectra are nearly identical at 0 mV and 100 mV reverse bias,
with a noise-current-to-photocurrent ratio, αMW-P, in the mid 10−6 range. For long-wave infrared (LWIR) detectors measured at 78 K, the ratio, αLW-d = in/Id ∼ 6 × 10−6, for the best performers. The majority of the LWIR detectors exhibited αLW-d on the order of 2 × 10−5. The photo-induced 1/f noise had αLW-P = in/Iph ∼ 5 × 10−6. The value of the noise-current-to-dark-current ratio, α appears to increase with increasing bandgap. It is not clear if
this is due to different current mechanisms impacting 1/f noise performance. Measurements on detectors of different bandgaps
are needed at temperatures where diffusion current is the dominant current. Excess low-frequency noise measurements made as
a function of detector reverse bias indicate 1/f noise may result primarily from the dominant current mechanism at each particular

It is well known that help prompts shape how users talk to spoken dialogue systems. This study investigated the effect of
help prompt placement on older users’ interaction with a smart home interface. In the dynamic help condition, help was only
given in response to system errors; in the inherent help condition, it was also given at the start of each task. Fifteen older
and sixteen younger users interacted with a smart home system using two different scenarios. Each scenario consisted of several
tasks. The linguistic style users employed to communicate with the system (interaction style) was measured using the ratio of commands to the overall utterance length (keyword ratio) and the percentage of content
words in the user’s utterance that could be understood by the system (shared vocabulary). While the timing of help prompts
did not affect the interaction style of younger users, it was early task-specific help supported older users in adapting their
interaction style to the system’s capabilities. Well-placed help prompts can significantly increase the usability of spoken

Photoinitiated Polymerization with Dialkoxy Thiocarbonyl Disulfides – a Polymerization Reaction with Primary Radical Termination The photoinduced free radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and some other vinyl monomers using dialkoxy thiocarbonyl disulfides ( 1 – 4 ) as photoinitiators was studied. The photolysis of these initiators leads to cleavage of the S S bond, which was determined by spin trapping experiments with phenyl tert-butyl nitrone. No evidence was found for a further thermal decomposition of the primary alkoxy thiocarbonyl sulfide radicals (R·) at room temperature. In the absence of scavengers the primary radicals react back exclusively to the initial compounds, due to a strong cage effect. By means of UV spectroscopic measurements and in the presence of MMA the quantum yields of the initiator decomposition were detected to be 0.8. The polymerization of acrylic and methacrylic derivatives can be initiated by the R·, contrary to the situation with fumarates and maleates. The mechanism of MMA polymerization depends on the light intensity absorbed by the initiators. At high intensities the combination of primary and polymer radicals terminates the chain reaction. This follows from the measured monomer exponent of α = 2, the light intensity exponent of β = 0,2 and the number of thiocarbonyl end groups of 2 in the polymers isolated. Contrary to this, in the low intensity region the experimental data obey the ideal kinetic equation. Kinetic modelling gives evidence for an interaction of the monomer with the cage radicals. 相似文献

The phenomenon of individual variability in susceptibility/resilience to stress and depression, in which the hippocampus plays a pivotal role, is attracting increasing attention. We investigated the potential role of hippocampal cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which regulates plasticity, neuroimmune function, and stress responses that are all linked to this risk dichotomy. We used a four-week-long chronic mild stress (CMS) paradigm, in which mice could be stratified according to their susceptibility/resilience to anhedonia, a key feature of depression, to investigate hippocampal expression of COX-2, a marker of microglial activation Iba-1, and the proliferation marker Ki67. Rat exposure, social defeat, restraints, and tail suspension were used as stressors. We compared the effects of treatment with either the selective COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib (30 mg/kg/day) or citalopram (15 mg/kg/day). For the celecoxib and vehicle-treated mice, the Porsolt test was used. Anhedonic (susceptible) but not non-anhedonic (resilient) animals exhibited elevated COX-2 mRNA levels, increased numbers of COX-2 and Iba-1-positive cells in the dentate gyrus and the CA1 area, and decreased numbers of Ki67-positive cells in the subgranular zone of the hippocampus. Drug treatment decreased the percentage of anhedonic mice, normalized swimming activity, reduced behavioral despair, and improved conditioned fear memory. Hippocampal over-expression of COX-2 is associated with susceptibility to stress-induced anhedonia, and its pharmacological inhibition with celecoxib has antidepressant effects that are similar in size to those of citalopram. 相似文献

Irreversible ligands are useful tools for investigating the function of receptor subtypes in various physiological processes. The mechanism for alkylation involves the formation of a reversible receptor complex followed by a covalent reaction. The extent of receptor alkylation is determined by the dissociation constant of the reversible complex and the rate constant for conversion to the covalent complex. Selectivity can be achieved if the irreversible ligand exhibits a difference in its dissociation constants for receptor subtypes. Selective alkylation can also be achieved using a selective competitive inhibitor to protect the desired receptor subtype. By using the non-M2-selective irreversible antagonist, 4-DAMP mustard, in combination with the competitive M2-selective antagonist, AF-DX 116, it has been possible to achieve a highly selective inactivation of all non-M2 subtypes of the muscarinic receptors in smooth muscle and has enabled the discovery of the functional role of M2 receptors in smooth muscle. 相似文献

Muscarinic receptors expressed on smooth muscle cells are primarily of the M(2) and M(3) subtypes. The M(3) subtype triggers contraction through an interaction with G(q) proteins to stimulate phosphoinositide hydrolysis and mobilize Ca(2+). In contrast, activation of M(2) receptors modulates contraction by preventing relaxation or by potentiating M(3) receptor-mediated contractions, which enhances heterologous desensitization. These effects can be explained by the coupling of M(2) receptors to G(i) proteins that mediate an inhibition of adenylyl cyclase and calcium-activated potassium channels. The pharmacological antagonism of a response mediated through an interaction between M(2) and M(3) receptors has been shown to resemble the profile of the directly acting receptor (M(3)), primarily, and not that of the conditional receptor (M(2)). Evidence for a contractile role of the M(2) receptor has been obtained by inactivating its signaling pathway with pertussis toxin or by measuring contractile effects of muscarinic agonists after M(3) receptors have been covalently inactivated. Under these conditions, M(2) receptors have been shown to mediate an inhibition of the relaxant effects of agents, like isoproterenol, on the contractile effects of nonmuscarinic spasmogens. When three dimensional measurements are conducted with fringe projection, the quality of the grating used for the generation of the fringes is important. It has a direct influence on the achievable depth resolution in a given measurement setup. In the past, Ronchi grating or gratings written in nematic liquid-crystal displays or in digital micromirror devices have been used. We report on the application of a reflective ferroelectric liquid-crystal-on-silicon display as the fringe-generating element in a setup based on a stereo microscope. With this device the depth resolution of measurements by use of phase-shifting algorithms can be significantly improved compared with the application of a Ronchi grating or a nematic liquid-crystal display. 相似文献
