The authors reanalyzed assessment center (AC) multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) matrices containing correlations among postexercise dimension ratings (PEDRs) reported by F. Lievens and J. M. Conway (2001). Unlike F. Lievens and J. M. Conway, who used a correlated dimension-correlated uniqueness model, we used a different set of confirmatory-factor-analysis-based models (1-dimension-correlated Exercise and 1-dimension-correlated uniqueness models) to estimate dimension and exercise variance components in AC PEDRs. Results of reanalyses suggest that, consistent with previous narrative reviews, exercise variance components dominate over dimension variance components after all. We determine the exact power of two-prover interactive proof systems introduced by Ben-Or, Goldwasser, Kilian, and Wigderson (1988). In this system, two all-powerful noncommunicating provers convince a randomizing polynomial time verifier in polynomial time that the inputx belongs to the languageL. We show that the class of languages having tow-prover interactive proof systems is nondeterministic exponential time.We also show that to prove membership in languages inEXP, the honest provers need the power ofEXP only.The first part of the proof of the main result extends recent techniques of polynomial extrapolation used in the single prover case by Lund, Fortnow, Karloff, Nisan, and Shamir.The second part is averification scheme for multilinearity of a function in several variables held by an oracle and can be viewed as an independent result onprogram verification. In this paper, we discuss the problem of quality control with an unreliable machine which produces defects at a rate of Λ0, per unit when in-control and a rate of Lambda; 1, when out-of-control (where Λ1 Λ 0). Every h time periods, we sample n units, count the number of defects, and (using a process based on a Shewart c-chart) test the hypothesis that the machine is in control by comparing the total number of defects to an upper control limit (UCL). More important, we introduce the concept that a buffer inventory which immediately follows the unreliable machine may reduce expected total costs. This buffer serves to delay the movement of items from the unreliable machine to the next stage of the production process. In this way, we can isolate and repair most defective items before they are embedded in a product downstream or sold to customers where repair is more costly. To search for the optimal control policy, we find bounds for n, h, and UCL; given values for these variables, we show how the optimal buffer size can be determined directly. Numerical results illustrate the magnitude of potential savings.  相似文献

One hundred and six episodes of bleeding from esophageal or gastric varices in 72 patients with cirrhosis of the liver were randomized to treatment either with intravenous terlipressin 2 mg initially and 1 mg every four hours for 24 hours together with bolus injection and continuous infusion of placebo, or with somatostatin 250 micrograms as a bolus and continuous infusion of 250 micrograms/h somatostatin for 24 hours and placebo injections. Standard treatment with transfusions, fluid and electrolyte correction, and lactulose was administered in both groups. In the terlipressin group, 48 out of 53 bleeding episodes (91%) and in the somatostatin group 43 out of 53 bleeds (81%) were initially stopped by the vasoactive drugs. Four of the five bleeds not arrested by terlipressin, and nine of the ten bleeds not arrested by somatostatin, were stopped by balloon tamponade. In one patient in each group variceal bleeding could not be stopped initially, and both patients died. The failure rate of the vasoactive treatment alone, including rebleeds within the study period, was 17% in the terlipressin, and 28% in the somatostatin, group. The initial hemostasis, including balloon tamponade, were 98%, and the definitive bleeding control rates were 89% in both groups. The hospital mortality rate was 21% (11/53) in the terlipressin, and 21% (11/53) in the somatostatin, group. Blood transfusions and duration of bleeding did not differ significantly. The study indicates that a large proportion of bleeds from esophageal and fundic varices can be stopped initially (86%) and definitively controlled (77%) by vasoactive drugs alone.  相似文献

Point counting represents a convenient and efficient technique for estimating the area of transects through multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions on magnetic resonance (MR) images obtained for sections through the brain. When sectioning has been performed according to the Cavalieri method, unbiased estimates of the total volume of MR-visible MS plaques can be obtained with a precision of 3–5% in 5–10 min.  相似文献

RATIONALE: Reocclusion after thrombolysis diminishes the benefits of early reperfusion after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). No clinical or laboratory variables have been identified as predictors for reocclusion yet. METHODS AND RESULTS: To evaluate hemostatic variables as potential risk determinants platelet aggregation (PA, representing platelet activity), thrombin/antithrombin complexes (TAT, representing thrombin generation), and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1, representing endogenous fibrinolysis) were determined in 31 patients with AMI at 0, 1, 2. and 12 h after the start of thrombolysis as well as at hospital discharge. Reocclusion (defined as reinfarction or angiographically confirmed, clinically silent coronary reocclusion) occurred in 5 patients within 5-14 days and in 8 patients within 1 year. TAT plasma concentrations were lower in patients with reocclusion than in those without (9.9+/-5.7 vs. 22.9+/-22.2 ng/ml at 2 h, 6.5+/-3.1 vs. 1 1.2+/-6.4 ng/ml at 12 h, means+/-SD, p <0.05 each). Neither concentration nor activity of PAI-1 in plasma differed between both patient groups. However, both slope and maximum of PA (induced by 2 micromol/l ADP) were augmented in patients with reocclusion (slope: 39.4+/-1.7 vs. 32.5+/-7.4 at 2 h, p <0.001; 42.6+/-2.6 vs. 36.6+/-8.9 at 12 h, p <0.01). Results were independent of the thrombolytic agent used (alteplase or reteplase). A PA slope at 2 h higher than the average slope before thrombolysis (37.2+/-5.7) could be identified as best predictor for early (within 5-14 d, p=0.017, sensitivity 1.00, specificity 0.69) and late reocclusion (within 1 y, p=0.009, 0.88 and 0.74, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Increased PA following coronary thrombolysis appears to be associated with early and late reocclusion. This marker could be useful in identifying patients who may benefit from more aggressive antiplatelet (such as GP IIb/IIIa receptor antagonists), interventional, or both strategies.  相似文献

The volatiles released by agar plate cultures of two strains of the myxobacterium Stigmatella aurantiaca (strains Sg a15 and DW4/3-1) were collected in a closed-loop stripping apparatus (CLSA) and analyzed by GC-MS. Large numbers of substances from different compound classes (ketones, esters, lactones, terpenes, and sulfur and nitrogen compounds) were identified; several of them are reported from natural sources for the first time. The volatiles 2-methyltridecan-4-one (17), its isomer 3-methyltridecan-4-one (20), and the higher homologue 2-methyltetradecan-4-one (18) were identified in the extracts of both strains and were synthesized. In addition, strain Sg a15 produced 2,12-dimethyltridecan-4-one (19), 2-methyltridec-2-en-4-one (23), and a series of phenyl ketones, among them 1-phenyldecan-1-one (14) and 9-methyl-1-phenyldecan-1-one (16), whereas strain DW4/3-1 emitted traces of 10-methylundecan-2-one (21). The biosynthesis of 14 and 16 was examined in feeding experiments with deuterated precursors carried out on agar plate cultures. The leucine-derived starter unit isovalerate was shown to be incorporated into 16, as was phenylalanine-derived benzoic acid into both 14 and 16. The results point to formation both of the phenyl ketones and of the structurally related aliphatic ketones through an unusual head-to-head coupling between a starter unit such as benzoyl-CoA and a fatty acyl-CoA, followed by decarboxylation.  相似文献

Performance data are presented for methane oxidation on alumina-supported Pd, Pt, and Rh catalysts under both fuel-rich and fuel-lean conditions. Catalyst activity was measured in a micro-scale isothermal reactor at temperatures between 300 and 800 °C. Non-isothermal (near adiabatic) temperature and reaction data were obtained in a full-length (non-differential) sub-scale reactor operating at high pressure (0.9 MPa) and constant inlet temperature, simulating actual reactor operation in catalytic combustion applications.

Under fuel-lean conditions, Pd catalyst was the most active, although deactivation occurred above 650 °C, with reactivation upon cooling. Rh catalyst also deactivated above 750 °C, but did not reactivate. Pt catalyst was active above 600 °C. Fuel-lean reaction products were CO2 and H2O for all three catalysts.

The same catalysts tested under fuel-rich conditions demonstrated much higher activity. In addition, a ‘lightoff’ temperature was found (between 450 and 600 °C), where a stepwise increase in reaction rate was observed. Following ‘lightoff’ partial oxidation products (CO, H2) appeared in the mixture, and their concentration increased with increasing temperature. All three catalysts exhibited this behavior.

High-pressure (0.9 MPa) sub-scale reactor and combustor data are shown, demonstrating the benefits of fuel-rich operation over the catalyst for ultra-low emissions combustion.  相似文献
