This research focused on determining the sociocultural factors that build the social perception of the social roles of senior citizens in Chile in the 2002–2012 period. For this purpose, public opinion was studied in newspapers El Mercurio and La Cuarta. Specialized opinion included the Senior Citizen Program of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the National Service for Senior Citizens, the Social Observatory for Aging and Old Age of Universidad de Chile, and the Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology of Chile. A comprehensive methodology was used, along with a bibliographical four-stage design. The following ten sociocultural factors were identified: Health and Quality of Life, Studies and Data, Social Images of Aging, Gerontological Concepts and Sociopolitical Participation, Gerontological Policies, Plans and Principles, Aging, Production and Gender, Institutionalization, Demographic Growth, Gerontological Training, and Exclusion and Old Age. This work suggests modifying the conceptual premise that emphasizes the inexistence of a social role for elderly people with a vision centered on the heterogeneity of social roles under permanent sociocultural construction.  相似文献

The extent to which individuals with a chronic physical illness perform their day-to-day activities and maintain the independence and autonomy they desire is both an indicator of adaptation and an important clinical outcome criterion. Yet the concept of functional performance is not well understood. Studies of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have attempted to identify physiologic and psychosocial factors that contribute to functioning in this population. These studies have used a melange of terms, including functional status, functional ability, quality of life, and health status interchangeably. They have also employed a variety of instruments to operationalize functional performance and an assortment of predictors to understand the phenomena. Perhaps as a result of this disarray, no attempt has been made to synthesize the literature for nursing research and practice. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the research on functional performance in people with COPD, indicate areas of understanding and quandary, suggest possible flaws, and propose several new directions for practice and research.  相似文献

A dengue fever/dengue hemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF) outbreak in Yap State caused by dengue-4 virus was confirmed serologically and by virus isolation from serum samples collected on each of three island groups. Most DF/DHF cases occurred during a three-month period between mid-May and early August 1995. Five fatal cases, three of which were in children between the ages of four and 11, occurred between June 20 and July 26. A serosurvey conducted in late August revealed anti-dengue IgM prevalence rates of 18% on Yap, 36% on Eauripik, and 6% on Woleai. The majority of residents (93-100%) on the three islands were positive for anti-dengue IgG antibodies, indicating widespread exposure to dengue viruses. The IgG titers indicative of secondary antibody response were noted on Eauripik (6.5%) and Woleai (17%), but were rare on Yap (0.7%). Entomologic investigations implicated the native mosquito species, Aedes hensilli, a member of the Scutellaris Group of Aedes (Stegomyia), as a previously unrecognized epidemic vector of dengue viruses. Aedes hensilli was the most abundant and widespread member of Ae. (Stegomyia) in Yap State, the only species of Ae. (Stegomyia) on Woleai, and the only mosquito species present on Eauripik. New distribution records for mosquito species are reported.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the interaction potential of the new antiepileptic drug felbamate (2-phenyl-1,3-propanediol dicarbamate) with three Ca2+ channel blockers (nicardipine, nifedipine, and flunarizine), one Ca2+ channel activator (Bay K 8644; 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-5-nitro-4-[2-(trifluoromethyl)-phenyl]-3-pyridi ne carboxylic acid), and two methylxanthines (caffeine and aminophylline (theophylline2 . ethylenediamine)) which are all known to markedly change protective effects of conventional antiepileptic drugs. To do so, the maximal electroshock seizure test in mice (an experimental model predicting drug efficacy in the treatment of human generalized tonic-clonic seizures) was employed to (1) quantify changes in the protective efficacy and potency of felbamate produced by adjunct drugs and (2) assess the ability of aminophylline and caffeine to affect protective efficacy afforded by a submaximal protective dose of felbamate against maximal electroshock-induced seizures. Doses of adjunct drugs were selected based on their effects on the threshold for electroconvulsions and on appropriate literature. Nicardipine (10-30 mg/kg), nifedipine (5-20 mg/kg), flunarizine (2.5-10 mg/kg), Bay K 8644 (2.5-5 mg/kg), and aminophylline (50-75 mg/kg) did not change the protective efficacy and potency of felbamate against maximal electroshock-induced tonic convulsions. Aminophylline in the dose of 100 mg/kg, however, diminished the protective potency of felbamate as evidenced by a statistically significant increase in the protective ED50 value of felbamate (a dose, in mg/kg, predicted to protect 50% of mice against convulsive stimulus) from 79.6 to 118 mg/kg; P < 0.05). Aminophylline and caffeine only at high doses (100 and 161.7 mg/kg, respectively) significantly diminished the protective efficacy of felbamate (110 mg/kg) from 96% to 27% and 40% (P < 0.05), respectively. In conclusion, felbamate shows low interaction potential with Ca2+ channel modulators and methylxanthines. Such low interaction potential clearly differentiates felbamate from conventional antiepileptic drugs where protective effects are readily altered by the compounds tested in the present study.  相似文献

Growing interest in processed frozen products with similar characteristics to natural products has generated the study of new products in the food industry field. The characteristics of each matrix, the process of elaboration, composition, and structure of the additives and the interactions amongst these modify the food's texture, structure, physical and sensory properties and, hence, interfere directly with consumer acceptance. This research studied the effect of adding cryoprotectors during frozen storage on the rheological, physicochemical, structural, and microbiological properties in a Mafafa‐quinoa‐olive oil puree. To carry out the study, the rheological properties were determined through dynamic oscillatory tests and in steady state; likewise, the physicochemical properties (humidity, color, pH, and syneresis) were analyzed. Regarding physicochemical properties, the humidity content in the purees formulated varied between 57 and 74%, without important variation (p > .05) with respect to the formulation, however, in the storage during the freezing/thawing process, this parameter diminished in greater proportion in those purees containing carrageenan as cryoconservant. Both the addition of cryoconservants and the storage time affected significantly (p < .05) the puree's syneresis, with the degree of exudation being lower in the formulation containing xanthan gum at 1% w/w. During the freezing/thawing process, decreased apparent viscosity was noted. Additionally, the analysis of the viscoelastic properties of the purees evidences that already described, given that a significant effect (p < .05) was observed of the formulation of purees in the elastic component G′, in contrast with a notable decrease in the viscous component G″.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To examine the rate of human follicular depletion and the interpretation of curved scatters on log-linear plots. DESIGN: Four mathematical models were tested with use of data drawn from published autopsy studies and histologic analyses of ovaries. SETTING: None. PATIENT(S): None. INTERVENTION(S): None. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): None. RESULT(S): Human oocyte depletion data do not support the inference of a biphasic follicular atresia. On original measurement scales there is no perturbation in the data between ages 37 and 40, and the instantaneous rate of follicle loss is lower after age 40 than ever before. CONCLUSION(S): There is no abrupt increase in the "rate" of follicular atresia that corresponds with a drop in fecundability or an increase in risk of chromosomal abnormalities at approximately age 38. The apparent abrupt increase in rate of follicular depletion is an artifact of log-linear transformation.  相似文献
