The demonstration of the first visible resonant cavity light-emitting diodes (RCLEDs) is reported. The devices consist of an InAlGaP strained quantum well active region surrounded by AlAs/AlGaAs distributed Bragg reflectors. Linewidths from 0.9 mm (2.6 meV) to 45 nm (12.8 meV) were obtained by varying the cavity factor (Q).<>  相似文献

The effects of composition and substrate temperature during evaporation and annealing, on the electron spin resonance spectra of co-evaporated SiO x /SnO (300 nm) thin films have been investigated. The spin density is observed to decrease with increasing SnO content. This effect is attributed to the saturation of some of the paramagnetic defects such as dangling bonds and other structural defects like E1 centres. The decrease in spin density in the composite thin films of SiO x /SnO of constant thickness and composition with annealing and with increase in the substrate temperature during evaporation, is related to the conversion of some of the paramagnetic E1 centres to E1 (probable non-paramagnetic precursor of E1) centres as well as to the saturation of some of the dangling bonds.  相似文献

Phosphate glasses containing mixed Cu2+/Ni2+ and Cu2+/Co2+ oxides have been examined. A pronounced decrease in the optical absorption at 830 nm due to the Cu2+ ions is observed as the CuO in the glasses is gradually replaced by NiO or CoO and the decrease is accompanied by a pronounced decrease in the strength of the electron spin resonance (ESR) signal at 9.52 GHz. By combining the ESR and optical absorption data it is concluded that the decrease in concentration of Cu2+ ions in phosphate glasses may be due to an oxidation-reduction mechanism between two valency states of the two different transition metals, of the form Cu2++Ni+Cu++Ni2+ and Cu2++Co+Cu++Co2+.  相似文献

Process-centered software engineering environments are expected to improve an individual's comprehension of work activities, as well as improve communication and reduce conflicts among teams of software developers. We chose to investigate individual responses when using such an environment before looking for a group response. A controlled experiment compared off-line and on-line implementations of measurement-based process guidance to test three hypotheses: first, individuals accomplish their work more efficiently when using on-line process guidance as compared to off-line guidance; second, individuals are willing to use an on-line system for guidance; and third, individuals adjust their behavior based on quantitative quality models. The subjects worked alone on two testing exercises. Subjects used either an off-line or an on-line guidance technique during the first exercise, and the other technique during the second exercise. The results did not confirm the hypotheses. On average, subjects worked more efficiently when using off-line guidance, preferred off-line guidance, and ignored quantitative quality models. Post hoc analysis identified a strong correlation between subject experience level and preference for the type of guidance, a result that deserves further investigation.  相似文献

Neutron experimental data relevant to the design of the target of neutron spallation sources are presented and discussed. The data include the reaction cross-sections for W, Hg and Pb investigated with 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.8 and 2.5 GeV proton beams as well as the neutron production, neutron multiplicity distribution, as determined event per event using a high-efficiency detector. The production as a function of target material is investigated for both thin (with a single reaction) and thick targets (multiple reactions). Comparisons are made with the predictions of a high-energy transport code.  相似文献

In this article, six faculty and students of color who participated in a panel discussion at a symposium during the National Multicultural Conference and Summit of 2003 talk about the barriers they encountered and continue to encounter in their graduate training and places of employment. They also discuss strategies they found to be effective, enhancing, and positive and suggest other possibilities. The contributors describe their relationships with dominant-group and minority peers and talk about how issues of social class, disability, and sexual orientation as well as color have been part of their experience. VHF propagation on ⩽5300 km polar paths has been documented during the maximum phase of sunspot cycle 19. Mode analysis on these polar paths has shown that auroral-E ionization (AEI) supported some modes. Electron densities and plasma frequencies which could support AEI modes at frequencies up to 46 MHz have also been measured. Long distance VHF propagation from AEI has also been reported by radio amateurs using frequencies in the 2 m band in a “sidescatter mode”. An AEI experiment has been in operation between Wales (Alaska) and Fairbanks (Alaska) where a 75-watt CW transmitter located in Wales transmits the Morse letter “R” every 5 s, and a receiver in Fairbanks detects the 25.5 MHz signal whenever AEI is present near the midpoint of the 960 km path. Another experiment is underway using a GPS total electron content (TEC) receiving station at Fairbanks also using AEI data from the Wales-Fairbanks experiment. From this, the authors examine 58 passes of GPS satellites whose E-layer penetration points lie close to the midpoint of the Wales-Fairbanks path and find that there is a threshold value of TEC above which auroral-E (AE) propagation occurs. They also find that AEI propagation is strongly correlated with large- and medium-scale E-region structures in TEC determined by the GPS measurements. When TEC ionospheric structures are not present near the Wales-Fairbanks path midpoint, no AEI signal is received. The authors tentatively conclude that the occurrence of these specific TEC signatures may be utilized as predictors of AEI forward propagation on paths within and parallel to the auroral oval  相似文献

Ultrasonic methods are being developed for sensing and control of high temperature material processes such as welding and solidification. One of the problems in these methods is the distortion of the sound field caused by the change in material properties due to temperature gradients. This paper describes a ray-tracing method for calculating the effects of temperature on ultrasonic propagation in such systems. In the ray-tracing method, the material is conceptually divided into a number of plane layers. The refraction at each layer boundary is calculated from Snell's law using the sound speeds determined from the temperatures of the adjacent layers. The time required for an ultrasonic pulse to traverse each layer is also calculated, allowing the determination of the total time along a particular path. The method is applied to calculating the time of arrival of echoes from various interfaces around a molten weld pool.  相似文献
