The isomerisation of allylbenzene, dimethoxyallylbenzene (4-allyl-1,2-dimethoxybenzene), eugenol (2-methoxy-4-(2-propenyl)phenol), and estragole (4-allylanisole) into their respective cis/trans internal alkenyl aromatics has been studied over a supported solid base catalysts (K2CO3/alumina). The catalyst was active at 305 K with conversions as high as 36%. However all reactants cause deactivation of the catalyst.  相似文献

Burden of care, expressed emotion (EE), causal attributions, and salivary cortisol were assessed in 100 carers of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Forty-one carers were rated high EE, which was associated with higher scores of carer distress and strain, and greater reports of noncognitive features in the patient, but not with cortisol levels. High EE carers made more attributions personal to, and controllable by, the patient for negative events. Critical carers made more attributions of the patient's behavior that was idiosyncratic. Warmth toward the patient was associated with the opposite of this pattern. Overinvolved carers made attributions of the patient's behavior to causes external to the patient and internal to themselves. Cortisol levels were associated with self-reports of strain and distress. Domestic cooking skills (CS) and food skills (FS) encompass multiple components, yet there is a lack of consensus on their constituent parts, inter-relatedness, or measurement, leading to limited empirical support for their role in influencing dietary quality. This review assessed the measurement of CS and FS in adults (>16 years); critically examining study designs, psychometric properties of measures, theoretical basis, and associations of CS/FS with diet. Electronic databases (PsychInfo), published reports, and systematic reviews on cooking and home food preparation interventions provided 834 articles of which 26 met the inclusion criteria. Multiple CS/FS measures were identified across three study designs—qualitative, cross-sectional, and dietary interventions—conducted from 1998 to 2013. Most measures were not theory-based, limited psychometric data were available, with little consistency of items or scales used for CS/FS measurements. Some positive associations between CS/FS and fruit and vegetables intake were reported, though lasting dietary changes were uncommon. The role of psycho-social (e.g., gender, attitudes) and external factors (e.g., food availability) on CS/FS is discussed. A conceptual framework of CS/FS components is presented for future measurement facilitation, which highlights the role for CS/FS on food-related behavior and dietary quality. Salmonella is an important foodborne pathogen worldwide and is commonly isolated from pigs and pig products in Ireland. Pigs, reared in an environment free of Salmonella spp. or with low levels of infection, may acquire infection or become contaminated during transport, lairage or post-slaughter. The main objective of this study was to determine the role of the abattoir as a potential factor that contributes to the dissemination of Salmonella spp. in slaughter pigs from herds with a low Salmonella seroprevalence (≤ 10%). A total of 128 pigs from eight herds were monitored from farm through the slaughter process in three separate abattoirs. The prevalence of Salmonella spp. was determined in samples collected from trucks, lairage pens and the slaughterline before pigs entered, from pigs after slaughter (caecal contents and ileocaecal lymph nodes) and carcass surfaces post-evisceration. Isolates were characterised by serotype, phage type and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns. Of the swabs taken from the trucks, lairage and slaughterline, before the pigs entered, 4.3% (3/70), 80% (64/80) and 16.7% (4/27) were positive for Salmonella spp., respectively. The proportion of pigs showing serological evidence of infection was 3.1% (4/128). Salmonella spp. were isolated from the ileocaecal lymph nodes and caecal contents of 14.8% (19/128) and 11.7% (15/128) of pigs, respectively, and 13/128 (10.2%), 5/128 (3.9%), 2/111 (1.8%) and 8/111 (7.2%) carcass swabs pre wash, post wash, post chill and belly-strip samples, respectively, were Salmonella-positive. There was only slight agreement between serological and bacteriological data at the pig level. Salmonella isolates from 45% of all positive pig samples and 82% of positive carcass samples were indistinguishable, based on PFGE patterns, from salmonellae isolated from the lairage and slaughterline. Based on these results it is concluded that the lairage and the slaughterline provide a substantial source for Salmonella contamination of pigs and carcasses.  相似文献

Participants with schizophrenia (N=59) were assessed on self-evaluation, symptomatology, and positive and negative affect (expressed emotion) from significant others. An interview-based measure of self-evaluation was used and two independent dimensions of self-esteem were derived: negative and positive evaluation of self. As predicted, negative self-evaluation was strongly associated with positive symptoms, a more critical attitude from family members was associated with greater negative self-evaluation, and analyses supported a model whereby the impact of criticism on patients' positive symptoms was mediated by its association with negative self-evaluation. The interview-based method of self-esteem assessment was found to be superior to the questionnaire because its predictive effects remained after depressed mood was accounted for. This study aimed to investigate verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli O157 in the largest beef and sheep slaughter plants in Ireland over a one-year period. Samples consisted of pooled rectal swabs (n = 407) and pooled carcass swabs (n = 407) from 5 animals belonging to the same herd or flock and minced meat (n = 91) from the same sampling date. E. coli O157 isolates were characterised using PCR for a range of genes, i.e. 16S, rfbE, fliC, vtx1, vtx2, eaeA and confirmed VTEC O157 isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility and typed using Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE) and Multi-Locus Variable Number of Tandem Repeat Analysis (MLVA). VTEC O157 was isolated from 7.6% and 3.9% of bovine rectal and carcass swab samples and from 5.8% and 2.9% of ovine rectal and carcass swab samples respectively. None of the bovine minced meat samples (n = 77) and only one of the 14 ovine minced meat samples was positive for VTEC O157. Following PFGE and MLVA, cross contamination from faeces to carcasses was identified. While PFGE and MLVA identified the same clusters for highly related strains, MLVA discriminated better than PFGE in addition to being more rapid and less labour intensive. Results showed that cattle and sheep presented for slaughter in Ireland harbour VTEC O157, and although the levels entering the food chain are low, this should not be overlooked as possible sources of zoonotic infection; molecular typing was able to demonstrate relationships among strains and could be used to elucidate the sources of human infection.  相似文献

Ozone impacts of natural gas development in the Haynesville Shale   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The Haynesville Shale is a subsurface rock formation located beneath the Northeast Texas/Northwest Louisiana border near Shreveport. This formation is estimated to contain very large recoverable reserves of natural gas, and during the two years since the drilling of the first highly productive wells in 2008, has been the focus of intensive leasing and exploration activity. The development of natural gas resources within the Haynesville Shale is likely to be economically important but may also generate significant emissions of ozone precursors. Using well production data from state regulatory agencies and a review of the available literature, projections of future year Haynesville Shale natural gas production were derived for 2009-2020 for three scenarios corresponding to limited, moderate, and aggressive development. These production estimates were then used to develop an emission inventory for each of the three scenarios. Photochemical modeling of the year 2012 showed increases in 2012 8-h ozone design values of up to 5 ppb within Northeast Texas and Northwest Louisiana resulting from development in the Haynesville Shale. Ozone increases due to Haynesville Shale emissions can affect regions outside Northeast Texas and Northwest Louisiana due to ozone transport. This study evaluates only near-term ozone impacts, but the emission inventory projections indicate that Haynesville emissions may be expected to increase through 2020.  相似文献
