Two techniques for voltage reduction are presented, both of which can significantly reduce the power consumption of digital CMOS circuits. The fixed reduction of voltage is applicable to small systems with a low initial consumption, however, the optimum voltage is not reached and the correct operation of the circuit is not guaranteed. The self-adjusted reduction of voltage is adapted to bigger digital systems. The correct operation of the digital circuit is guaranteed, and the supply voltage is near the optimum for the speed requirements. This technique is more versatile, accurate, and reliable than the fixed one  相似文献

Proposes 10 models for predicting a student's final grade placement in a computer-assisted instruction curriculum from the time the student spends taking lessons. Using data from approximately 2,000 elementary students, the models are tested both for ability to predict final grade placement and for ability to describe all points observed throughout the year. Two of the simplest models, using only the most recent point and parameters estimated for the whole group, are best at prediction. The power function model with all parameters estimated individually for each student, while relatively poor at prediction, is best for describing all observed points. A series of studies further explored the way in which irrelevant sound disrupts the serial recall of visually presented verbal sequences. The hypothesis that distinctiveness (stimulus mismatch) within auditory irrelevant sequences is a critical determinant of disruption of serial recall was tested. Experiment 1 showed that the degree of disruption was related to the degree of mismatch between successive stimuli. However, in Experiment 2, changes in 2 attributes of a stimulus produced less disruption than when only 1 was changed, suggesting mismatch alone was not the key factor. These results were reconciled with the changing-state hypothesis in Experiment 3 in which change and disruption were monotonically related up to the point at which mismatch created 2 streams. Task-irrelevant background sound disrupts serial recall. One account of this effect assumes that irrelevant events close to or during the presentation of a to-be-remembered list will interfere by disrupting temporal codes. A second account predicts that disruption will be greatest when the burden on rehearsal is high, as order cues in the auditory sequence interfere with those in the memory set. The authors tested these predictions by restricting the sound to different phases of the serial recall task. Sound presented just before the list and sound presented early in list presentation did not disrupt recall, but sound presented late in the list or after list presentation produced significant disruption. Sound presented after the list was more disruptive of recall for early list items than sound presented at the same time as those items. We describe a computer code that combines an Eulerian incompressible-fluid algorithm (SOLA) with a Lagrangian finite-element shell algorithm. The former models the fluid and the latter models the containing structure in an analysis of pressure suppression in boiling-water reactors. The code (PELE-IC) calculates loads and structural response from air blowdown and from the oscillatory condensation of steam bubbles in a water pool. The fluid, structure, and coupling algorithms are tested by recalculating problems that have known analytical solutions, including tank drainage, spherical bubble growth, coupling for circular plates, and submerged cylinder vibration. Code calculations are also compared with the results of small-scale blowdown experiments.  相似文献

R. P. Carlyon, R. Cusack, J. M. Foxton, and I. H. Robertson (2001; see record 2001-16068-008) have argued that attention is crucial for auditory streaming. The authors review R. P. Carlyon et al.'s (2001) arguments and suggest that a pertinent literature, the irrelevant sound paradigm--demonstrating preattentive auditory streaming--has been overlooked. In illustration of this alternative approach, the authors include a novel single experiment demonstrating the impact of preattentive auditory streaming on short-term serial memory. It is concluded that R. P. Carlyon et al.'s (2001) results do not definitively demonstrate that auditory streaming processes are dependent on attention; indeed, they are compatible with alternative accounts of the relationship between perceptual organization and attention. Double agency theories of short-term memory posit the functional independence of a phonological store (inner ear) and articulatory process (inner voice). A series of 5 experiments challenges this view. Articulatory suppression during retention of 9-item lists gives rise to a changing-state effect similar to that shown for irrelevant speech. Also, vocalized suppression is more disruptive than silently mouthed suppression, but this difference arises from vocalization itself rather than from any auditory feedback to which it gives rise. Class similarity between the to-be-remembered items and the articulatory material is not a critical determinant, but the effect occurs only with tests of serial order. For mouthed suppression, the irrelevant speech effect is only attenuated with changing-state suppression. Also, the presence of changing-state irrelevant speech abolishes the changing-state effect of articulatory suppression. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the potential of a parallel corpus in the context of (computer-assisted) language learning. In order to do so, we propose to answer two main questions (1) what corpus (data) to use and (2) how to use the corpus (data). We provide an answer to the what-question by describing the importance and particularities of compiling and processing a corpus for pedagogical purposes. In order to answer the how-question, we first investigate the central concepts of the interactionist theory of second language acquisition: comprehensible input, input enhancement, comprehensible output and output enhancement. By means of two case studies, we illustrate how the abovementioned concepts can be realized in concrete corpus-based language learning activities. We propose a design for a receptive and productive language task and describe how a parallel corpus can be at the basis of powerful language learning activities. The Dutch Parallel Corpus, a ten-million word sentence aligned and annotated parallel corpus, is used to develop these language tasks.  相似文献

An attentionally demanding task undertaken during adaptation to motion reduces the duration of the subsequent motion aftereffect (A. Chaudhuri, 1990). Previous studies have suggested that this effect is intramodal in character, reflecting the selective deployment of visual attention. The present study demonstrates that nonvisual tasks, performed concurrently with motion adaptation, can significantly reduce the duration of the ensuing aftereffect. Three experiments converge on the conclusion that postcategorical processes can influence otherwise unrelated concurrent precategorical processes. The experiments also show that neither perceptual input nor motor output components of the attentional task are responsible for the subsequent reduction in motion of aftereffect.
