The growth mechanism and morphology of Ge precipitates in an Al-Ge alloy was characterized by a combination of in-situ transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and three-dimensional electron tomography. Anisotropic growth of rod-shaped Ge precipitates was observed by in-situ transmission electron microscopy over different time periods, and faceting of the precipitates was clearly seen using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and three-dimensional electron tomography. This anisotropic growth of rod-shaped Ge precipitates was enhanced by vacancy concentration as proposed previously, but also by surface diffusion as observed during the in-situ experiment. Furthermore, a variety of precipitate morphologies was identified by three-dimensional electron tomography.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE:- To ascertain whether restriction of dietary sodium lowers blood pressure in hypertensive and normotensive individuals. DATA SOURCES:- An English-language computerized literature search, restricted to human studies with Medical Subject Heading terms, "hypertension," "blood pressure," "vascular resistance," "sodium and dietary," "diet and sodium restricted," "sodium chloride," "clinical trial," "randomized controlled trial," and "prospective studies," was conducted. Bibliographies of review articles and personal files were also searched. TRIAL SELECTION:- Trials that had randomized allocation to control and dietary sodium intervention groups, monitored by timed sodium excretion, with outcome measures of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure were selected by blinded review of the methods section. DATA EXTRACTION:- Two observers extracted data independently, using purpose-designed forms, and discrepancies were resolved by discussion. DATA SYNTHESIS:- The 56 trials that met our inclusion criteria showed significant heterogeneity. Publication bias was also evident. The mean reduction (95% confidence interval) in daily urinary sodium excretion, a proxy measure of dietary sodium intake, was 95 mmol/d (71-119 mmol/d) in 28 trials with 1131 hypertensive subjects and 125 mmol/d (95-156 mmol/d) in 28 trials with 2374 normotensive subjects. After adjustment for measurement error of urinary sodium excretion, the decrease in blood pressure for a 100-mmol/d reduction in daily sodium excretion was 3.7 mm Hg (2.35-5.05 mm Hg) for systolic (P<.001) and 0.9 mm Hg (-0.13 to 1.85 mm Hg) for diastolic (P=.09) in the hypertensive trials, and 1.0 mm Hg (0.51-1.56 mm Hg) for systolic (P<.001) and 0.1 mm Hg (-0.32 to 0.51 mm Hg) for diastolic (P=.64) in the normotensive trials. Decreases in blood pressure were larger in trials of older hypertensive individuals and small and nonsignificant in trials of normotensive individuals whose meals were prepared and who lived outside the institutional setting. CONCLUSION:- Dietary sodium restriction for older hypertensive individuals might be considered, but the evidence in the normotensive population does not support current recommendations for universal dietary sodium restriction.  相似文献

Following a brief review of the literature, details are given of an in-depth evaluation of a computer training centre called Microjob. This facility set out to integrate computer training, vocational guidance, functional assessment, placement in employment and post-placement support into a single service delivery package. In this paper the facility's outcome record is examined in relation to targets set for it, consideration is given to the special needs of home-based trainees, and specific difficulties faced by the project (including an inefficient management structure, inadequate staff training and a poor level of awareness of clients' special needs) are discussed.  相似文献

Ammonium and potassium ion-selective membranes formulated with PVC/hydroxylated PVC, polyurethane/hydroxylated PVC, and moisture-curable silicone rubber matrices are studied in an effort to extend the lifetime of solid-state ion sensors through improved membrane adhesion. The PVC/membranes exhibit electrochemical performance equivalent to that of conventional PVC membranes in terms of slope, detection limit, and selectivity. The polyurethane- and silicone-rubber-based membranes have better adhesion to silicon nitride than do PVC or hydroxylated PVC matrices. Incorporating a silanizing reagent (silicon tetrachloride) significantly improves the adhesion of the polyurethane matrix. The use of silicon tetrachloride in membrane matrices also enhances the electrochemical stability of the interfacial potential between ion-selective polymer-matrix membranes and silver epoxy inner reference electrodes of solid-state sensors. The biocompatibility of the polymer matrices is examined via radiotracer protein adsorption studies and whole blood clotting time measurements. The polyurethane- and silicone-rubber-based membranes exhibit less overall nonspecific protein adsorption than the PVC or hydroxylated PVC matrices.  相似文献

The relation between the learning environment (e.g., students' perceptions of the classroom goal structure and teachers' instructional discourse) and students' reported use of avoidance strategies (self-handicapping, avoidance of help seeking) and preference to avoid novelty in mathematics was examined. Quantitative analyses indicated that students' reports of avoidance behaviors varied significantly among classrooms. A perceived emphasis on mastery goals in the classroom was positively related to lower reports of avoidance. Qualitative analyses revealed that teachers in high-mastery/low-avoidance and low-mastery/high-avoidance classrooms used distinctively different patterns of instructional and motivational discourse. High incidence of motivational support was uniquely characteristic of high-mastery/ low-avoidance classrooms, suggesting that mastery goals may include an affective component. The acquisition of a series of energy-filtered TEM images over the energy-loss range of interest creates a three-dimensional data set comprising both spatial and spectral information. Such an image-series contains energy-loss information not available with conventional two- or three-window methods, allowing standard techniques for quantitative EELS analysis to be applied to extracted 'image-spectra'. The increase in spectral information enables improved ionisation edge background extrapolation and interactive image-spectrum analysis to be performed. In this paper, the many advantages of the image-spectroscopy approach are outlined by reference to an example of elemental segregation in an AlZnMgCu alloy.  相似文献

Translation of exosome-based therapies to pharmaceutical use is hindered by difficulties in large-scale and cost-effective production of clinical-grade exosomes.The rational design of nanovesicles that mimic the functionalities and physicochemical properties of exosomes may circumvent these issues.In this study,membranes and secretome from efficacy-potentiated mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)were developed into size-controllable nanovesicles(Meseomes).MSCs were primed with interferon-y(IFNy)and tumor necrosis factor-a(TNFa),harvested,and exosome-mimicking Meseomes were subsequently synthesized via one-step extrusion.Meseomes demonstrated significant enhancement of pro-angiogenic,pro-proliferative,antiinflammatory,and anti-fibrotic effects on endothelial cells,macrophages,and hepatic stellate cells in vitro.Meseomes from primed MSCs benefited from an enrichment of bioactive and therapeutic molecules compared to nanovesicles from unprimed MSCs,as validated by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS)proteomic analysis.Systemic administration of Meseomes to acute liver injury models resulted in the recovery of liver function,attenuated tissue necrosis.Further assessment of locally administered Meseomes in acute hindlimb ischemia models resulted in the salvage of the majority of the ischemic hindlimb(>80%),which was due to enhanced angiogenesis and M2 macrophage polarization.The versatility and therapeutic efficacy of our developed acellular Meseomes offer an appealing alternative to traditional cell or exosome therapies for regenerative and translational medicine.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Malassezia species are lipophilic yeasts that are emerging as nosocomial pathogens, particularly in low-birth-weight neonates who receive lipid emulsions. When a cluster of patients with Malassezia pachydermatis infection was identified in an intensive care nursery, we initiated an investigation. METHODS: A case patient was defined as any infant in the intensive care nursery who had a positive culture for M. pachydermatis between October 17, 1993, and January 18, 1995. We conducted a cohort study to identify risk factors for colonization and infection with M. pachydermatis. We collected cultures from the infants and the health care workers and from the health care workers' pets, since this organism has been associated with otitis externa in dogs. RESULTS: Fifteen infants met the case definition: eight with bloodstream infections, two with urinary tract infections, one with meningitis, and four with asymptomatic colonization. The case patients were significantly more likely than the other infants to weigh 1300 g or less (15 of 65 vs. 0 of 419, P<0.001). In a multivariate analysis of infants weighing 1300 g or less, the independent risk factors for colonization or infection with M. pachydermatis were a greater severity of concomitant illness (odds ratio, 19.7; P=0.001), arterial catheterization for nine or more days (odds ratio, 29.5; P=0.027), and exposure to Nurse A (odds ratio, 74.7; P=0.004). In a point-prevalence survey, 9 additional infants, 1 health care worker, and 12 of the health care workers' pet dogs had positive cultures for M. pachydermatis. The isolates from all 15 case patients, the 9 additional colonized infants, 1 health care worker, and 3 of the 12 dogs had identical patterns of restriction-fragment-length polymorphisms. CONCLUSIONS: In this outbreak, it is likely that M. pachydermatis was introduced into the intensive care nursery on health care workers' hands after being colonized from pet dogs at home. The organism persisted in the nursery through patient-to-patient transmission.  相似文献
