The authors examined the potentially separable contributions of 2 elements of intergroup cooperation, interaction and common fate, and the processes through which they can operate. The manipulation of interaction reduced bias in evaluative ratings, which supports the idea that these components are separable, whereas the manipulation of common fate when the groups were interacting was associated with lower bias in nonverbal facial reactions in response to contributions by in-group and out-group members. Whereas interaction activated several processes that can lead to reduced bias, including decategorization, consistent with the common in-group identity model (S. L. Gaertner, I F. Dovidio, P. A. Anastasio, B. A. Bachman, & M. C. Rust, 1993) as well as M. Hewstone and R. J. Brown's (1986) group differentiation model, the primary set of mediators involved participants' representations of the memberships as 2 subgroups within a superordinate entity. An automated, high-throughput adhesion workflow that enables pseudobarnacle adhesion and coating/substrate adhesion to be measured on coating patches arranged in an array format on 4x8 in.(2) panels was developed. The adhesion workflow consists of the following process steps: (1) application of an adhesive to the coating array; (2) insertion of panels into a clamping device; (3) insertion of aluminum studs into the clamping device and onto coating surfaces, aligned with the adhesive; (4) curing of the adhesive; and (5) automated removal of the aluminum studs. Validation experiments comparing data generated using the automated, high-throughput workflow to data obtained using conventional, manual methods showed that the automated system allows for accurate ranking of relative coating adhesion performance.  相似文献

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the next and forthcoming evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Though there could be significant benefits to society, there are also concerns that AGI could pose an existential threat. The critical role of Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) in the design of safe, ethical, and usable AGI has been emphasized; however, there is little evidence to suggest that HFE is currently influencing development programs. Further, given the broad spectrum of HFE application areas, it is not clear what activities are required to fulfill this role. This article presents the perspectives of 10 researchers working in AI safety on the potential risks associated with AGI, the HFE concepts that require consideration during AGI design, and the activities required for HFE to fulfill its critical role in what could be humanity's final invention. Though a diverse set of perspectives is presented, there is broad agreement that AGI potentially poses an existential threat, and that many HFE concepts should be considered during AGI design and operation. A range of critical activities are proposed, including collaboration with AGI developers, dissemination of HFE work in other relevant disciplines, the embedment of HFE throughout the AGI lifecycle, and the application of systems HFE methods to help identify and manage risks.  相似文献

It has recently been shown that magnesium (Mg) particles possessing a thin oxide surface layer can be used to produce primers that provide corrosion protection to aluminum (Al) alloys through a galvanic coupling mechanism. In addition to the Mg particles, polymer binder properties also affect corrosion protection. As a result, the effects of compositional variables associated with a two-component epoxy binder system on the ability of Mg-rich primers to protect an aerospace Al alloy were determined. The variables investigated were epoxy resin molecular mass, curing agent functionality, epoxy/NH ratio, and Mg content. All of the variables investigated had a significant effect on coating system performance and an optimized coating composition was identified that showed very good corrosion protection for at least 3,000 h of ASTM B117 salt spray exposure.  相似文献

This study sought to determine the potential role of nitric oxide (NO) in N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-stimulated efflux of [14C] gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and [3H]acetylcholine from striatal slices in vitro. In Mg2+-free buffer, NMDA-stimulated [14C]GABA and [3H]acetylcholine release were inhibited by the guanylate cyclase inhibitor, 1 H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ), and, to a lesser extent, by the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, nitroarginine (N-Arg). Since reversal of catecholamine transporters previously has been implicated in the mechanism underlying NO-induced catecholamine release, we used the GABA transport inhibitor, 1-(2-(((diphenylmethylene)imino)oxy)ethyl)-1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-3-py ridine-carboxylic acid hydrochloride (NNC-711), to address the role of GABA transport in NArg-sensitive NMDA-induced release. NNC-711 inhibited NMDA-stimulated [14C]GABA efflux by 50%, confirming our previous report that NMDA-stimulated GABA release is partially dependent on reversal of the transporter. The effect of N-Arg in the presence of NNC-711 was similar to its effect in the absence of the transport inhibitor, suggesting that reversal of the transporter is not involved in the NO component of NMDA-stimulated [14C]GABA release. These data suggest that glutamatergic transmission through striatal NMDA receptors is partially mediated through activation of the NO/guanylate cyclase pathway and that this mechanism may contribute to the tetrodotoxin sensitivity of NMDA-induced release of GABA and acetylcholine in the striatum.  相似文献

Control rats rapidly learned to avoid drinking either a sucrose solution (Exp 1) or an NaCl solution (Exp 2) when the taste was paired with illness. These rats also produced aversive reactivity to each of these solutions in a taste reactivity test. Rats that lacked gustatory cortex (GC) learned to avoid drinking sucrose and NaCl, albeit at a slower rate than control rats. GC rats failed to display aversive reactivity to these tastes. The GC rats did show normal aversive reactivity to a strong quinine HCl solution during additional tests. It is suggested that the avoidance developed by GC rats did not entail a palatability shift of the conditional stimulus as it did in control rats. This altered learning strategy may account for the consistent learning deficits found in GC rats trained to avoid tastes. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Interest in hybrid organicinorganic (HOI) materials has grown rapidly in the last two decades. The appeal of this broad class of materials can be attributed to the unique combinations of properties that can be achieved by combining an inorganic phase with an organic phase. HOI materials can be divided into two basic categories: homogeneous systems derived from monomers or miscible organic and inorganic components, and heterogeneous, phase-separated systems with domains ranging from angstroms to micrometers in size. The structure of the inorganic component is dependent on the interaction of many variables such as pH, water content, overall solution concentration, solvent composition, temperature, and time. Due to the complexity of HOI materials, a combinatorial/high-throughput approach to the development of novel materials is highly desired. The authors have recently developed a combinatorial workflow for the synthesis and characterization of HOI coatings. Initial experimentation conducted with the workflow was focused on the development of primers for corrosion protection derived from a HOI binder system and magnesium particles. Both the homogeneous and heterogeneous HOI binders were investigated. With just one iteration of the combinatorial workflow, heterogeneous, moisture-curable HOI binders were identified, which enabled the formation of magnesium-rich primers that provided excellent corrosion protection to an aerospace aluminum alloy (Al 2024).  相似文献

A number of reports suggest that under different conditions leading to cytoskeleton reorganization the GTPase Rac1 and possibly RhoA are downstream targets of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI 3-kinase). In order to gain more insight into this particular signaling pathway, we have addressed the question of a possible direct interaction of PI 3-kinase products with the Rho family GTPases RhoA, Rac1, and Cdc42. Using recombinant proteins, we found that Rac1 and, to a lesser extent, RhoA but not Cdc42 were capable to selectively bind to phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns(3,4,5)P3) in a mixture of crude brain phosphoinositides. Nucleotide-depleted Rac1 was the most efficient, but the GDP- and GTP-bound forms retained significant PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 binding activity. This protein-lipid association involved electrostatic as well as hydrophobic interactions, since both phosphate groups located at specific positions of the inositol ring and fatty-acyl chains were absolutely required. Based on the sequence of Rac1, two potential binding sites were identified, one at the C terminus and one in the extra alpha-helical domain. Deletion of these two domains resulted in a complete loss of binding to PI 3-kinase products. Finally, PtdIns(3, 4,5)P3 strongly stimulated GDP dissociation from Rac1 in a dose-dependent manner. In agreement, data obtained in intact cells suggest that PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 might target Rac1 to peculiar membrane domains, allowing formation of specific clusters containing not only small GTPases but other partners bearing pleckstrin homology domains such as specific exchange factors required for Rac1 and RhoA activation.  相似文献
