Reports extensions and new results of the First Time Domain Born approximation model used by Mottley and Miller (1982) to describe the anisotropy of ultrasonic backscatter measured in canine myocardium. The interaction of an ultrasonic plane wave impulse with a single cylindrical scatterer using time and frequency domain approaches is reviewed. Myocardial tissue is modeled as a suspension of aligned cylindrically shaped scatterers uniformly distributed in a homogeneous medium. The authors propose extensions to this model to deal with nonideal scatterer orientation, by introducing axial distribution functions and scatterer size distributions based on histology, modeled as a uniform distribution. The backscatter coefficient in the range 2.0-8.0 MHz is calculated. An algorithm to compute the average differential scattering cross section is presented. Ultrasonic elastic properties of myocardial tissue are discussed. Results of the anisotropy of the numerically computed backscatter parameters for model media having nominal mechanical and acoustic properties of canine myocardial tissue are presented and compared to available experimental data along with discussion of possible conclusions  相似文献

Juvenile budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) observed thin film transistor video playback of a virtual conspecific demonstrator using its beak to remove a stopper from a food box, either by pulling the object upward or by pushing it downward. Simultaneously (Experiment 1) or subsequently (Experiment 2), the observers were offered a similar stopper box and rewarded with access to food for each removal response, regardless of its direction. Observers of upward movement made a greater proportion of up responses in total and showed a stronger tendency to increase the proportion of up responses over test trials than observers of downward movement. These findings provide the first demonstration of which the authors are aware that birds are able not only to detect and respond to a moving video image but also to copy its movements. A new formulation for obtaining the absolute backscatter coefficient from pulse-echo measurements is presented. Using this formulation, performing the diffraction correction and system calibration is straightforward. The diffraction correction function for the measurement of backscatter coefficient and the acoustic coupling function for a pulse-echo system are defined. Details of these functions for two very useful cases are presented: a flat disk transducer and a spherically focused transducer. Approximations of these functions are also provided. For a flat disk transducer, the final formulation appears as a modification to the established Sigelmann-Reid formulation. For a focused transducer, the final correction is a weak function of frequency when the scattering volume is near the focal area, rather than the frequency squared dependence proposed by earlier investigators.  相似文献

The R-R interval measurement from digitized electrocardiograms (ECG) contains an error due to the finite sampling frequency which may jeopardize the beat-to-beat analysis of the heart rate. In this paper, we develop a model to describe and quantitate this error. The "measured" R-R interval is modeled as the sum of the "true" R-R interval and of the error of measurement. The first and second order statistics of the error are computed in order to investigate its influence on the heart rate variability (HRV) power spectrum. They are found to be only functions of the ECG sampling frequency and, in particular, the power spectrum of the error contributes an additive high-pass filter-like term (colored noise) to the power spectrum of the HRV. The accuracy of the model is tested via a simulation procedure. The model indicates that the relative balance between the HRV and the error power spectra is important and should be checked before any variability analysis on the heart rate. This balance may be favorable to the error when 1) the sampling frequency of the ECG is too low, and/or 2) the variability of the heart rate is too little. In these cases, the HRV spectrum analysis may not give reliable results. Two tests are proposed in order to evaluate the error influence either in specific frequency bands or in the total frequency range.  相似文献
