A wideband wattmeter for measuring active power over a frequency range of dc to 500 kHz is described. The wattmeter is based on the three-voltmeter method in which three rms voltage measurements are used to calculate power. The majority of patients with soft tissue or bone sarcomas of the upper extremity can be treated today with limb-saving procedures using combined modality therapies. For patients with a tumor in the shoulder area, sometimes an interscapulothoracic amputation is the only radical surgical treatment. However, in selected cases, in which the tumor does not involve the neurovascular bundle, a limb-sparing alternative might be the Tikhoff-Linberg resection. Normal function of the hand and forearm, with reasonable function of the elbow, can be maintained by this procedure. Four case histories are reported.  相似文献

Two patients with mitochondrial myopathy (Kearns-Sayre syndrome) received general anaesthesia. In the first case propofol-alfentanil anaesthesia was carried out; the second patient received propofol-fentanyl anaesthesia. Muscle relaxation was provided with vecuronium. In both cases we observed a short episode of bradycardia (heart rate < 50.min-1), which was successfully treated with atropine. After the propofol infusion had been stopped, both patients rapidly gained consciousness and were extubated after prompt spontaneous ventilation had returned. Reversal of neuromuscular blockade in the second patient was achieved within 5 min by neostigmine. Special anaesthetic problems in patients with mitochondrial myopathies such as myocardial conduction disturbances, postoperative muscle hypotonia, and possible increased susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia can be overcome by the described anaesthetic management.  相似文献

The chemokine RANTES induces a unique biphasic cytoplasmic Ca2+ signal in T cells. The first phase of this signal, similar to that of other chemokines, is G-protein mediated and chemotaxis associated. The second phase of this signal, unique to RANTES and evident at concentrations greater than 100 nM, is tyrosine kinase linked and results in a spectrum of responses similar to those seen with antigenic stimulation of T cells. We show here that certain jurkat T cells responded to RANTES solely through this latter pathway. A direct correlation between the RANTES-induced second phase response and CD3 expression was demonstrated in these cells. Sorting the Jurkat cells into CD3(high) and CD3(low) populations revealed that only the CD3(high) cells were responsive to RANTES. Furthermore, stimulation of these Jurkat cells with anti-CD3 mAb significantly depresses their subsequent response to RANTES. While a RANTES-specific chemokine receptor is expressed at a low level on these Jurkat cells, the RANTES-induced activation is dependent on the presence of the TCR. Thus, stimulation through TCR may partially account for RANTES' unique pattern of signaling in T cells.  相似文献

A novel model‐free iterative adaptive controller is presented for low‐power control of piezoelectric actuators. The controller uses simple adaptation rules based on known general behavior of piezoelectric actuators to adjust on‐off switching times to drive piezoelectric actuators through a desired transient step motion. Adaptation rules are based on small numbers of measurements taken during each iteration of the actuator movement. Combined with the use of only on‐off control inputs, controller implementation can be possible at much lower overall power levels than would be needed to implement a conventional control strategy such as through pulse‐width‐modulation (PWM) with real‐time feedback. Such power savings are particularly important for the intended controller application to piezoelectric microactuators driving autonomous terrestrial micro‐robots. A method for predicting convergence of systems with nominally linear dynamics and unknown, bounded nonlinearities is described, and applied to a sample target piezoelectric actuator. The controller is tested in simulation and experimentally on a piezoelectric cantilever actuator, and shows predicted convergence to the desired response. Aflatoxins are secondary metabolites produced by species of Aspergilli, specifically Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. These molds are ubiquitous in nature and grow on a variety of substrates, thereby producing aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are of great concern due to their biochemical and biological effects on living organisms. In this article, the occurrence of aflatoxins, their biosynthesis, factors influencing their production, their effects on living organisms, and methods of detection and control in food are reviewed. Future areas of research involving mathematical modeling of factors influencing aflatoxin production and alternative methods of control, such as modified atmosphere packaging, are also discussed.  相似文献

The use of respiratory tract dosimetry predictions to estimate the desired aerosol exposure concentration required for a specific target deposited dose in animal inhalation studies has been hindered by: (1) a lack of species/strain specific quantitative respiratory tract anatomy; and (2) verification by comparison of calculated and experimentally measured deposited doses. Using recent literature on tracheobronchial and pulmonary respiratory tract anatomy, dosimetry predictions for the Balb/c mouse were compared with deposited doses for 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 micrometer diameter aerosols in a newly available nose-only exposure system. Spatial and temporal aerosol port to port uniformity of this nose-only exposure system was within ± 10% of the mean. Dosimetry predictions were in agreement with the measured mean deposited doses for the aerosols tested.  相似文献
