This paper describes a conceptual and theoretical framework to allow better user control over data summarization for knowledge discovery. Basic to the approach is a measure of quality of summarization of data using categories provided by the hierarchical structure of concept ontology. This involves the modeling, using a fuzzy sets approach, of the four criteria implicit in a summarization imperative: minimum coverage, minimum relevance, succinctness, and usefulness. With these criteria modeled, a multicriteria approach is presented, using a decision function aggregating these criteria that provides an overall quality measure to guide the summarization of the data. The development of the theory is first presented for the simple case of a single attribute to clearly delineate the basic issues and approach and then extended to multiple attributes. Using Web services, the authors have been able to increase the amount of data accessible through the Naval Research Laboratory’s Geospatial Information Database (GIDB) portal. They created a Web crawler for Web Mapping Services (WMS) that harvests and adds data to the portal index and a translator that provides access to non-WMS data through the WMS interface. The Integrated Web Services Broker, using traditional Web services standards, provides automated access to meteorological and oceanographic data.  相似文献

This paper describes a database model based on the original rough sets theory. Its rough relations permit the representation of a rough set of tuples not definable in terms of the elementary classes, except through use of lower and upper approximations. The rough relational database model also incorporates indiscernibility in the representation and in all the operators of the rough relational algebra. This indiscernibility is based strictly on equivalence classes which must be defined for every attribute domain. There are several obvious applications for which the rough relational database model can more accurately model an enterprise than does the standard relational model. These include systems involving ambiguous, imprecise, or uncertain data. Retrieval over mismatched domains caused by the merging of one or more applications can be facilitated by the use of indiscernibility, and naive system users can achieve greater recall with the rough relational database. In addition, applications inherently “rough” could be more easily implemented and maintained in the rough relational database.  相似文献

Chemical mediation of egg capsule deposition by mud snails   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Mud snails (Ilyanassa obsoleta = Nassarius obsoletus = Nassa obsoleta) deposit eggs in protective capsules on hard substrata in soft bottom environments. We studied sites of egg capsule deposition and snail movement responses to odors to determine if chemoreception plays a role in deposition site selection. From results of field surveys, laboratory experiments, and field experiments, we conclude that mud snails use chemoreception for capsule deposition. Attractive odors originate from mud snail and whelk egg capsules and from living bivalves. Evidence for attractive odors from conspecifics is equivocal. Capsules are deposited on living odor sources and nearby hard substrates. We hypothesize that deposition of capsules on living substrates increases the likelihood that embryos will survive by decreasing the chance of smothering of embryos by sediments.  相似文献

This paper presents a review on the performance of Savonius wind turbines. This type of turbine is unusual and its application for obtaining useful energy from air stream is an alternative to the use of conventional wind turbines. Simple construction, high start up and full operation moment, wind acceptance from any direction, low noise and angular velocity in operation, reducing wear on moving parts, are some advantages of using this type of machine. Over the years, numerous adaptations for this device were proposed. The variety of possible configurations of the rotor is another advantage in using such machine. Each different arrangement of Savonius rotor affects its performance. Savonius rotor performance is affected by operational conditions, geometric and air flow parameters. The range of reported values for maximum averaged power coefficient includes values around 0.05–0.30 for most settings. Performance gains of up to 50% for tip speed ratio of maximum averaged power coefficient are also reported with the use of stators. Present article aims to gather relevant information about Savonius turbines, bringing a discussion about their performance. It is intended to provide useful knowledge for future studies.  相似文献

The Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) project uses superconductive coils for generation of the magnetic field to keep the plasma. One of the important safety systems is the protection against quench events. The quench detection system of W7-X protects the superconducting coils, the superconducting bus bar sections and the high temperature superconductor of the current leads against the damage because of a quench and against the high stress by a fast discharge of the magnet system.Therefore, the present design of the quench detection system (QDS) uses a two-stage safety concept for discharging the magnetic system. This paper describes the present design of the system assembly from the quench detection unit (QDU) for the detection of the quench to the quench detection interface (QDI) to implement the two-stage safety concept.  相似文献

The effects of thermal exposure on the strengths of Nextel™ 550 and 720 tows, bare and coated with carbon, were determined by room-temperature tensile testing of single filaments extracted from tows that had been exposed to different thermal environments (i.e., air or vacuum) at temperatures from 550° to 1400°C. The results help define the allowable composite processing conditions when using these tows. A 28% drop in the strength of Nextel 550 filaments occurred after a thermal exposure at 1100°C for 2 h in air. After an exposure of 1300°C/2 h/air, a strength degradation of ∼47% resulted. Filaments exposed above 1100°C under vacuum showed more severe strength degradation than filaments exposed in air. The observed strength degradation may stem from a combination of phase transformations of the alumina, the onset of mullite crystallization, and/or exaggerated mullite grain growth. Strength after heat treatment under vacuum at 1050° and 1150°C did not deteriorate as rapidly as after heat treatment under vacuum between 950° and 1050°C or between 1150° and 1250°C. This may be a result of the competition between healing of flaws by the amorphous silica and its evaporation (leading to an increase in its viscosity or loss) and/or densification of the filaments. Nextel 720 filaments exhibited about 9% strength loss after an exposure at 1100°C/2 h/air. The filaments maintained 75% of their strength after a 1300°C/2 h/air heat treatment. The observed strength degradation may stem from thermal grooving, grain growth, and/or annealing of the mullite subgrain boundaries. Thermal exposure of >10 h at 1300°C was required to produce measurable grain growth. Strength loss between 1200° and 1300°C (air heat treatment) was not as great as between 1100° and 1200°C or 1300° and 1400°C.  相似文献

Observation of the oxidation–reduction processes occurring at the nanoelectrode–solution interface demonstrates how electrochemical behavior depends upon nanoelectrode size. The use of a modified form of pulsed laser ablation as an improved method to synthesize nanometer-scaled electrode materials easily and consistently is reported. This method of fabrication enables platinum metal nanoparticles averaging 3 nm in diameter and approximately 5.0 × 1011 particles/cm2 to be deposited onto silicon substrates using optimum ablation parameters. A platinum silicide phase exists at the interface of the platinum and silicon as a result of the ablation process. Electrochemical results demonstrate the presence of a large number of isolated platinum particles (1.1 × 107 particles/cm2), separated by an average edge to edge distance of 14 nm, which are electrochemically active nanoelectrodes.  相似文献
