Plants have the ability to acquire an enhanced level of resistance to pathogen attack after being exposed to specific biotic stimuli. In Arabidopsis, nonpathogenic, root-colonizing Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria trigger an induced systemic resistance (ISR) response against infection by the bacterial leaf pathogen P. syringae pv tomato. In contrast to classic, pathogen-induced systemic acquired resistance (SAR), this rhizobacteria-mediated ISR response is independent of salicylic acid accumulation and pathogenesis-related gene activation. Using the jasmonate response mutant jar1, the ethylene response mutant etr1, and the SAR regulatory mutant npr1, we demonstrate that signal transduction leading to P. fluorescens WCS417r-mediated ISR requires responsiveness to jasmonate and ethylene and is dependent on NPR1. Similar to P. fluorescens WCS417r, methyl jasmonate and the ethylene precursor 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate were effective in inducing resistance against P. s. tomato in salicylic acid-nonaccumulating NahG plants. Moreover, methyl jasmonate-induced protection was blocked in jar1, etr1, and npr1 plants, whereas 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate-induced protection was affected in etr1 and npr1 plants but not in jar1 plants. Hence, we postulate that rhizobacteria-mediated ISR follows a novel signaling pathway in which components from the jasmonate and ethylene response are engaged successively to trigger a defense reaction that, like SAR, is regulated by NPR1. We provide evidence that the processes downstream of NPR1 in the ISR pathway are divergent from those in the SAR pathway, indicating that NPR1 differentially regulates defense responses, depending on the signals that are elicited during induction of resistance.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to apply the cognitive behavioral model of problematic Internet use to the context of online game use to obtain a better understanding of problematic use of online games and its negative consequences. In total, 597 online game playing adolescents aged 12–22 years participated in this study. Results showed that the cognitive behavioral model of problematic Internet use can also be used in the context of online game use. More specifically, preference for online social interaction, mood regulation and deficient self-regulation appeared to play an important role in predicting negative outcomes from problematic online game use. Together, these cognitions and behaviors explained 79% of the variance of negative outcomes scores. These findings can be used to develop strategies that aim at reducing problematic online game behavior and its negative consequences.  相似文献

The effect of electrical and captive needle air pressure stunning methods on some meat quality parameters was examined in ostriches under practical conditions. One hundred and fifteen ostriches were used in three experiments. The ostriches were stunned either electrically (head only) or by using a captive needle with air pressure. In the first experiment the ostriches were stunned at 90 V (~effectively 52 V), 200 V and by captive needle using air pressure. In the second experiment voltages of 175 and 200 V were applied and a captive needle stunning method using air pressure. In the third experiment the birds were stunned at 175 V with a short stun/stick interval. Experiments 2 and 3 were performed in a different slaughterhouse from experiment 1. Meat quality was assessed by measuring the pH, temperature and colour at 45 min and 18 h post mortem and by determining water binding capacity and haemorrhage score at 18 h post mortem in the big drum, tender loin and triangular filet muscles. The measured stunning parameters in the first experiment were 204±96 mA (~52 V) during 11±1 s and 556±85 mA (~200 V) during 6±0 s. The stun/stick interval was 136±38 s. The rigor mortis value in the tender loin and both pH(1) and pH(2) in the big drum, tender loin and triangular filet muscles were (p<0.05) lower when stunned with air pressure compared with electrical stunning. Moreover internal light scattering remained higher. The measured currents in the second experiment were 561±226 mA (~173 V) during 6±2 s and 518±120 mA (~200 V) during 6 s. The stun/stick interval was 39±12 s. The pH at 45 min and 18 h differed (p<0.05) in the tender loin and triangular filet muscles as did the temperature at 45 min in the three muscles between the different stunning groups. The stunning in the third experiment was carried out with 548±180 mA during 6±2 s. The stun/stick interval was 5±2 s. After the short stun/stick interval the pH(2) was lower (p<0.05) for the tender loin and triangular filet muscles and the wetness of the filter paper of the big drum was (p<0.05) lower compared with the other groups. Our experiments showed that stunning methods affected several meat quality parameters. Using a high electrical stunning current, captive needle stunning or a short stun/stick interval may positively affect some parameters. More research is necessary to examine effects of pre slaughter handling on meat quality.  相似文献

The detrimental effect of NO on N2O decomposition over zeolite supported noble metal catalysts can be (partly) eliminated by combining noble metal with iron or cobalt. In the presence of NO, the total conversion of N2O over these bimetallic-zeolites exceeds the sum of conversions over the monometallic analogues of the individual components. A synergistic effect between the metals is proposed to be responsible for this phenomenon. This synergistic effect gives superior N2O decomposition activity under realistic conditions, i.e. in the presence of water and NO, at temperatures as low as 350°C. The nature of the synergy is discussed in the light of some preliminary observations.  相似文献

Cattle breeding has a new reproduction technique in addition to artificial insemination and embryo transfer. It is the collection of ova from living animal by means of ultrasound guided follicle aspiration (ovum pick-up), followed by embryo-production in vitro. Follicles larger than 2 mm were punctured and the ova were collected twice weekly during 3 months. In total 1677 ova were collected from ten cows; 1342 (80%) were used for in vitro maturation, fertilization, and embryoculture. All ova were fertilized with semen from one bull, and 218 transferable embryos were produced. Calculated on a year basis, this would amount to 87 embryos per animal, with an intra-animal variation between 28 and 132. This new technique may replace MOET (Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer; yearly average of 25 transferable embryos per animal), if the embryo-production via OPU can be performed with semen from any selected bull.  相似文献

Cartograms visualize quantitative data about a set of regions such as countries or states. There are several different types of cartograms and – for some – algorithms to automatically construct them exist. We focus on mosaic cartograms: cartograms that use multiples of simple tiles – usually squares or hexagons – to represent regions. Mosaic cartograms communicate well data that consist of, or can be cast into, small integer units (for example, electorial college votes). In addition, they allow users to accurately compare regions and can often maintain a (schematized) version of the input regions’ shapes. We propose the first fully automated method to construct mosaic cartograms. To do so, we first introduce mosaic drawings of triangulated planar graphs. We then show how to modify mosaic drawings into mosaic cartograms with low cartographic error while maintaining correct adjacencies between regions. We validate our approach experimentally and compare to other cartogram methods.  相似文献

Conversion of NOx with reducing agents H2, CO and CH4, with and without O2, H2O, and CO2 were studied with catalysts based on MOR zeolite loaded with palladium and cerium. The catalysts reached high NOx to N2 conversion with H2 and CO (>90% conversion and N2 selectivity) range under lean conditions. The formation of N2O is absent in the presence of both H2 and CO together with oxygen in the feed, which will be the case in lean engine exhaust. PdMOR shows synergic co-operation between H2 and CO at 450–500 K. The positive effect of cerium is significant in the case of H2 and CH4 reducing agent but is less obvious with H2/CO mixture and under lean conditions. Cerium lowers the reducibility of Pd species in the zeolite micropores. The catalysts showed excellent stability at temperatures up to 673 K in a feed with 2500 ppm CH4, 500 ppm NO, 5% O2, 10% H2O (0–1% H2), N2 balance but deactivation is noticed at higher temperatures. Combining results of the present study with those of previous studies it shows that the PdMOR-based catalysts are good catalysts for NOx reduction with H2, CO, hydrocarbons, alcohols and aldehydes under lean conditions at temperatures up to 673 K.  相似文献
