Selection of serum deproteinization methods

Dentists are often called upon to perform painful procedures on children. This may present a management problem for the practitioner who is unfamiliar with accepted behavioural management techniques or prescribing analgesics for paediatric patients. This article will review techniques that may be used to guide a child patient's behaviour through painful procedures as well as addressing the need for post-operative analgesics in the paediatric population.     

Coordination of the Batch Distribution at the Blast-Furnace Mouth and the Gas-Flux Distribution in the Hearth

Coordinated parameter selection of the batch charged at the top of the blast furnace and the blast injected in the hearth is evaluated as a means of improving furnace performance.     

Coupling coefficients of step-impedance resonators in stripeline band-pass filters of array type

There are researched specificities of electromagnetic coupling coefficients at main and higher resonance frequencies between step-impedance resonators, fabricated from symmetric stripe transmission lines with open ends. It is shown, modification of step resonators parameters can result in modification of the coupling coefficient at main resonance frequency in wide range, that allows to realize band-pass filters of array type. It is stated in case of several values of parameters of stripe resonators their coupling coefficients values at frequencies higher than main one are zero. It is proposed a new method of expansion of suppressed frequency band of pass-band filters of array type, which is based on suppression of the first parasitic pass band due to zero coupling coefficient.     

An experimental stand for investigating protective devices for high-voltage overhead lines

An experimental stand for investigating and testing lightning protection devices for aerial power lines is described. The stand is composed of an oscillation circuit modeling a power line with an industrial frequency of 50 Hz, a voltage of up to 10 kV, and a current amplitude in the circuit as high as 10 kA; a generator of short single current pulses with a voltage of up to 25 kV and a current amplitude of up to 30 kA, modeling a lightning discharge; and commutation, control, and diagnostic systems. The stand is used to investigate elements of multi-chamber arrester systems for protecting high-voltage overhead lines.     

Applying the Algorithm of Calculation in the Frequency Domain to Ultrasonic Tomography

Applying ultrasonic-tomography systems makes it possible to precisely determine the shape and dimensions of flaws with the aim of establishing the degree to which the flaws influence safe operation of tested objects. This problem is solved by using special algorithms that make use of echo-signals recorded by an ultrasonic transducer to generate synthesized images of flaws in the sample. The use of phased arrays in ultrasonic tomography is explained by their ability to provide exhaustive data about the internal structure of a test object, thus allowing formation of the high-quality synthesized images of flaws in the object. Increasing the speed of ultrasonic tomography by using phased arrays necessitates the development and implementation of fast data-processing algorithms. In this connection, of interest are calculation algorithms in the frequency domain, which ensure the high speed of producing synthesized images. An ultrasonic-tomography algorithm is proposed that is based on calculations in the frequency domain. The algorithm takes the complex nature of the propagation of ultrasonic waves into account and is connected with the presence of media with different acoustic properties (e.g., in the case of immersion tests). Possibilities offered by the algorithm are investigated by computer simulations using the licensed CIVA 2016 software package and experimentally.

Development and trends of applications of the new types of turbogenerators with vector system of field control

The results of the application of asynchronized turbogenerators with vector control and biaxial excitation in the Russian electric power system are presented. Since 2003, five air-cooled asynchronized turbogenerators with powers of 110, 160, and 320 W have been in operation at heat electric power stations. The main results of their testing and operation are given.     

Pathogenetic aspects of the individualization of diagnosis and prevention of metastasis

Pathogenetic aspects of individualization of prognosis and prevention of metastatic spreading have been studied for many years. The paper presents the results obtained in the course of the study. Prognostic importance of the indices of external respiration, functional activity of macrophages and natural killers, growth-modifying properties of the blood serum and the angiogenic factor content in it is substantiated. The methods of individual antimetastatic therapy with the application of neurotropic drugs and diet restriction as well as with the use of tests of the metastatic cells' sensitivity to different therapeutic influences are suggested.     

Asynchronous turbogenerators and compensators as a means of improving the operating capability of the Moscow power system

Because of the need to increase the reliability of electrical supplies, the requirements imposed on the controllability of the power system are increasing. This requires the introduction of devices which enable the voltage regulation range (normalization) to be extended, and necessitates increasing the stability of the power system. One the of the effective methods for the flexible control of the modes of operation of the power system is the use of asynchronous turbogenerators and compensators.
