Recurrent erosion of the corneal epithelium has been treated successfully by phototherapeutic keratectomy when convention therapy has failed. We present a case of recurrent corneal erosion occurring 1 year after photorefractive keratectomy in a 55-year-old myopic woman. No corneal abnormalities were previously identified in either the affected or the fellow eye. This case demonstrates the potential for ineffective healing of the corneal epithelial basement membrane complex after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy. 相似文献

Online social networks have been gaining increasing economic importance in light of the rising number of their users. Numerous
recent acquisitions priced at enormous amounts have illustrated this development and revealed the need for adequate business
valuation models. The value of an online social network is largely determined by the value of its users, the relationships
between these users, and the resulting network effects. Therefore, the interconnectedness of a user within the network has
to be considered explicitly to get a reasonable estimate for its economic value. Established standard business valuation models,
however, do not account for these aspects sufficiently. Thus, we propose an economic model for the valuation of online social
networks, which takes into account the users’ interconnectedness within the network. Furthermore, we analyze different centrality
measures, which can be used to quantify users’ interconnectedness in online social networks and propose a measure which is
based on the PageRank-algorithm. Finally, the practical application of the model is illustrated by an example of the European

We study property preserving transformations for reactive systems. The main idea is the use of simulations parameterized by Galois connections (, ), relating the lattices of properties of two systems. We propose and study a notion of preservation of properties expressed by formulas of a logic, by a function mapping sets of states of a systemS into sets of states of a systemS'. We give results on the preservation of properties expressed in sublanguages of the branching time -calculus when two systemsS andS' are related via (, )-simulations. They can be used to verify a property for a system by verifying the same property on a simpler system which is an abstraction of it. We show also under which conditions abstraction of concurrent systems can be computed from the abstraction of their components. The difficulties arising in the numerical solution of PDE-constrained shape optimization problems are manifold. Key ingredients are the optimization strategy and the shape deformation method. Furthermore, the robustness of the optimal shape with respect to simulation parameters is of great interest. In this paper, we consider fluid flows described by the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. Previous studies on artificial bypass grafts indicated the need for specific constitutive models to account for the non-Newtonian nature of blood; in particular, the constitutive model was shown to affect the solution of the shape optimization problem. We employ a shape optimization framework that couples a finite element solver with quasi-Newton-type optimizers and a Bezier spline shape parametrization. To compute derivatives of the optimal shapes with respect to viscosity, we transform the entire optimization framework by combining the automatic differentiation tools Adifor2 and TAPENADE. We demonstrate the impact of the geometry parametrization and of geometric constraints on the optimization outcome. Finally, we employ the transformed framework to compute the sensitivity of the optimal shape of bypass grafts with respect to kinematic viscosity. The resulting sensitivities predict very accurately the influence of viscosity changes on the optimal shape. The proposed methodology provides a powerful tool to further investigate the necessity of intricate constitutive models by taking derivatives with respect to model parameters. 相似文献

Precise parallel- and tilted-field radiofrequency size-effect measurements of the temperature dependence of the electron scattering frequency v(T) have been made on symmetric orbits on the first-, second-, and third-band Fermi surface sheets in samples with normals 11\-20 and 10\-10. The limiting point measurements on the third-band lens near 0001 provide the clearest evidence for a T
2 contribution to v(T) that is the right order of magnitude for electron-electron scattering in cadmium. In parallel field measurements on orbits on the first and second bands (including a broken orbit) we find v(T) T
2 + T
3. On these orbits the values for are 5–20 times larger than for the limiting point and other orbits on the third band. The temperature dependence of v(T\> 2 K) on extremal, limiting point, and open orbits on the second- and third-band Fermi surface sheets can be well accounted for by a simple plane wave model for electron-phonon intersheet scattering. This contribution to v(T) turns on approximately as exp (–T
t
/T) above T
t
/10, where T

is the minimum gap temperature on the orbit for intersheet scattering by quasi-transversely polarized phonons. The fitted gap temperatures as well as the other parameters of the plane wave model agree well with the known dimensions of the Fermi surface of cadmium. By means of service-oriented architectures the IT support of processes can be designed as a portfolio of individual IT services provided by different suppliers. The processes are designed based on selection decisions between IT services that potentially have to be included. Many companies formulate a multitude of requirements for investments in IT services at ever shorter intervals. However, the scope of the desired investments usually exceeds the available budget. Thus, companies face the challenge of allocating the limited budget to investments in the most promising combination of IT services. This is hardly possible without methodical support. In addition, the allocation is often done intuitively and subject to the decision-makers?? affinity with IT. Therefore, this paper develops a quantitative, multi-period procedure model for the purpose of maximizing the enterprise value in accordance with value based management, which considers the dependencies of the periodical selection decisions. The development of novel DNA sensors is a crucial issue in the diagnosis of pathogenic and genetic diseases. We have used density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the performance of hybrid DNA sensors consisting of a gold atom (Au) deposited on two types of single-walled carbon nanotubes: armchair SWCNT(8,0)/Au and zigzag SWCNT(5,5)/Au and compared these with bare Au. We also chose adenine:thymine (A:T) as a Watson-Crick base pair of the DNA double helix. In the recognition probe, SWCNT/Au/A, adenine is immobilized on the SWCNT/Au supporter via its active N7 anchor point. After thymine hybridization (SWCNT/Au/A:T), the overall modulations compared with the original systems. Due to the complimentary functions of gold, which acts as a powerful electron withdrawing and transmitting group and of the SWNCTs, which act as electron collecting centers, respectively, the hybrid systems, "SWNCTs/Au", were found to exhibit more stability and sensitivity than the Au center alone. The changes in the HOMO-LUMO band gaps and in the atomic partial charges upon binding of thymine were rather small, but the change of the overall dipole moment was considerably larger in SWCNT/Au/A than it was in Au/A alone. The overall results suggest that the "SWCNTs/gold" system is a potential candidate for a nanostructure-based DNA sensor. 相似文献

In this article we discuss the influence of temporal stability on the value obtained for dielectric properties of materials measured by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy with particular emphasis on attenuated total reflection. The stability of three different terahertz attenuated total reflection spectroscopy systems is carefully characterized. The formalism for the complex refractive index extraction is presented and the effect of delay errors is calculated numerically. We found that good thermal stability of the terahertz system helps to minimize delay fluctuations and therefore the uncertainty of the resulting complex refractive index. 相似文献

Here we describe a new route for the synthesis of nanometric Ni particles embedded in a mesoporous silica material with excellent potential for catalytic applications. Mesoporous silica with a surface area in the range of 202-280 m2/g, with narrow pore size distribution and Ni nanoparticles (particles in the range of 3-41 nm) were obtained in a direct process. A different approach was adopted to process such a nanocomposite. This new approach is based on the formation of a polymer with the silicon oxianion and nickel cation chelated to the macromolecule structure and on the control of the pyrolysis step. The CO/CO2 atmosphere resulting from the pyrolysis of the organic material promotes the reduction of the Ni citrate. 相似文献
