The functional groups responsible for branch site identity in the two steps of pre-mRNA splicing as well as for spliceosome assembly were tested by incorporation of site-specific modifications at the branch site of a pre-mRNA. These results show that recognition of the adenosine occurs early in complex formation and that the branch site adenosine is recognized differently before the first step and for the second step. Further, direct UV cross-linking with these modified RNAs was used to identify a factor whose interaction was dependent upon the identity of the branch site nucleotide.  相似文献

48 patients diagnosed as schizophrenic were rated by the Phillips Scale of premorbid adjustment 5 years ago. Important subcultural variables, which were related to the prognostic scores became apparent. In this study the reliability of the Phillips Prognostic Rating Scale as an instrument of prognosis and the subcultural variables were examined. For this purpose 3 categories were used: (a) In Group, which contained those men who had not been out of the hospital during the intervening 5 years nor were being considered for discharge or trial visit. (b) Half-way Group, which included those men who had been discharged and returned or who were either now or had been on trial visit. (c) Out Group, or those patients who had been discharged for over 12 mo. and whose readmission appeared unlikely. The results are positive and (the In Group has a higher mean score than the other groups) support the thesis that premorbid adjustment is an indicator of prognosis in schizophrenia. In this particular Kentucky hospital population important subcultural variables along a rural-urban dimension and the importance of marital status are emphasized. An automatic piped aerosol system (Accudose TM) using 0.7% synergized pyrethrin insecticide, was tested at a typical narrow cage poultry farm for the control of adult house flies, Musca domestica L. A similar narrow cage poultry farm was used as a control with all house fly control measures left up to the cooperating poultryman. AccudoseTM was compared with other house fly control methods at other similar farms which included three types of man-portable ultra volume (ULV) generators and an integrated (biological-chemical) program. Results of the five month test demonstrated that the AccudoseTM system suppressed house fly populations better than other control methods.  相似文献

The relationships that are shaping international component design in appliance controls are examined. Several new design principles that offer many advantages to the appliance manufacturer are discussed. An example demonstrating these international design principles is given. A common control that attempts to satisfy the power switching requirements of three different products, namely, a dishwasher for Europe, a refrigerator/freezer for Australia, and a window room air conditioning heat pump (with an electric heating element) for the North American market, is presented. The international differences that exist in power distribution systems, such as high-voltage two-wire/three-wire systems, 50/60Hz line frequencies, and 120/240 V line voltages, are discussed. The use of 4, 8, and 16 bit microprocessors versus discrete digital electronics in appliance controls is discussed. The categories set forth are not intended to describe all microprocessor parts available, but rather to address general microprocessor technologies. Simple controllers that can compete in applications typically relegated to switches and mechanical timers are discussed, as well as more complex controllers such as those providing novel and useful features for top-of-the-line appliances. Guidelines are assembled for use in choosing the right processor for the job. A typical microprocessor-based control project life, from concept to finished product, is discussed. The costs associated in microprocessor design, development, and modification during the embryonic phase are addressed. The use of microprocessor technology versus discrete digital circuitry results in reduced parts count, smaller circuit boards, improved performance/reliability, potential cost reductions, increased flexibility, and decreased response times  相似文献
