Nanostructured polymer blends prepared via anionic ring opening polymerizations of cyclic monomers in the presence of a pre-made polymer melt exhibit a number of special properties over traditional polymer blends and homopolymers. Here, we report on a simple and versatile method of in situ polymerization of macrocyclic carbonates in the presence of a maleic anhydride polypropylene (mPP) matrix and a surface-active compatibilizer (i.e. PC grafted onto a mPP backbone generated in situ) to yield a micro- and nanostructured polymer blends consisting of a polycarbonate (PC) minor phase, and a polypropylene (PP) major phase. By varying the processing conditions and concentration of the macrocyclic carbonate it was possible to reduce the size of the PC dispersions to an average minor diameter of 150 nm. NMR and TEM characterizations indicate that the PC dispersions do not influence crystal content in the PP phase. Overall, the results point to a simple strategy and versatile route to new polymeric materials with enhanced benefits.  相似文献

Renal length has been measured by ultrasound in 237 subjects with homozygous sickle cell (SS) disease, 147 with sickle cell-hemoglobin C (SC) disease, and in 78 age-matched controls with a normal hemoglobin (AA) genotype. As expected, renal length increased with age in all genotypes but mean length was significantly greater in SS disease compared with SC disease (mean difference 4.3 mm after adjustment for height) and significantly greater in both genotypes than in AA controls (SS/AA difference 9.2 mm, SC/AA difference 5.0 mm after adjustment for height). Examination of relationships between renal length and some hematological indices (hemoglobin, fetal hemoglobin, reticulocyte counts, alpha thalassemia status) in SS or SC disease showed only a significant negative correlation with hemoglobin and positive correlation with reticulocyte count in SS disease. Further analysis suggested that the stronger relationship was between renal length and high reticulocyte count. The mechanism of renal enlargement is unknown although glomerular hypertrophy and increased renal blood volume are likely contributors.  相似文献

Interleukin-5 (IL-5) regulates the growth and function of eosinophils. It induces rapid tyrosine phosphorylation of Lyn and Jak2 tyrosine kinases. The role of tyrosine phosphatases in IL-5 signal transduction has not been investigated. In this study, we provide first evidence that SH2 protein tyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHPTP2) phosphotyrosine phosphatase plays a key role in prevention of eosinophil death by IL-5. We found that IL-5 produced a rapid activation and tyrosine phosphorylation of SHPTP2 within 1 min. The tyrosine phosphorylated SHPTP2 was complexed with the adapter protein Grb2 in IL-5-stimulated eosinophils. Furthermore, SHPTP2 appeared to physically associate with beta common (betac) chain of the IL-5 receptor (IL-5betacR). The association of SHPTP2 with IL-5betacR was reconstituted using a synthetic phosphotyrosine-containing peptide, betac 605-624, encompassing tyrosine (Y)612. The binding to the phosphotyrosine-containing peptide increased the phosphatase activity of SHPTP2, whereas the same peptide with the phosphorylated Y612--> F mutation did not activate SHPTP2. Only SHPTP2 antisense oligonucleotides, but not sense SHPTP2, could inhibit tyrosine phosphorylation of microtubule-associated protein kinase, and reverse the eosinophil survival advantage provided by IL-5. Therefore, we conclude that the physical association of SHPTP2 with the phosphorylated betac receptor and Grb2 and its early activation are required for the coupling of the receptor to the Ras signaling pathway and for prevention of eosinophil death by IL-5.  相似文献

Human C4b-binding protein (C4BP) functions as a cofactor to factor I in the degradation of C4b and accelerates the decay rate of the C4b2a complex. In this study we describe a monoclonal antibody directed against the alpha-chain of C4BP that inhibits the binding of C4b to C4BP. In order to identify the structural domain of the alpha-chain of C4BP that interacts with C4b, tryptic fragments of C4BP were generated. Amino acid sequence analysis of the fragments revealed that the residues Ser333-Arg356 of the alpha-chain of C4BP contain the epitope of this antibody, and as a consequence, that this part of the alpha-chain of C4BP is likely to be involved in the interaction with C4b.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To confirm the risk factors for genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. GOAL OF THIS STUDY: To investigate risk factors for HPV detection apart from the correlated risk factors for cervical neoplasia. STUDY DESIGN: Cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA was assessed in 357 cytologically normal women attending the University of New Mexico student health center. Cervical swab samples were obtained for HPV DNA detection and typing using a PCR-based DNA amplification system. Possible determinants of cervical HPV were examined including age, ethnicity, history of sexually transmitted disease, oral contraceptive use, smoking, age at first intercourse, lifetime number of sex partners, marital status, and history of pregnancy. RESULTS: A 44.3% overall prevalence of cervical HPV was observed. On univariate analysis, factors associated with increasing HPV prevalence included higher lifetime number of sex partners and single marital status. After adjustment for potential confounding variables, we found that HPV prevalence increased with higher lifetime number of sexual partners. CONCLUSION: These findings, along with those from the companion reports in this issue of the journal, support the sexual route of transmission of the virus.  相似文献

An experimental study of heat transfer to boiling liquids under natural convective flow has been carried out in a single tube vertical thermosiphon reboiler to investigate the effect of heat flux and submergence on circulation rates. The test liquids used were distilled water, various concentrations of propan-2-ol in water and their azeotrope. The test section was an electrically heated stainless steel tube of 25.56 mm i.d., 28.85 mm o.d. and 1900 mm long with twenty-one spot welded copper constantan thermocouples to measure the variations in wall temperature along its axis. The uniform heat fluxes in the range of 3.5–42.4 kW/m2 were employed while inlet liquid sub-cooling varied from 0.2 to 30.7 °C. The liquid submergence levels were maintained in the range 30–100%. The typical experimental data has been graphically presented and discussed. An empirical correlation has been developed from the experimental data of the present study through regression analysis.  相似文献

Nanorod field-effect transistors (FETs) that use multiple Mg-doped ZnO nanorods and a SiO2 gate insulator were fabricated and characterized. The use of multiple nanorods provides higher on-currents without significant degradation in threshold voltage shift and subthreshold slopes. It has been observed that the on-currents of the multiple ZnO nanorod FETs increase approximately linearly with the number of nanorods, with on-currents of ~1 muA per nanorod and little change in off-current (~4times10-12). The subthreshold slopes and on-off ratios typically improve as the number of nanorods within the device channel is increased, reflecting good uniformity of properties from nanorod to nanorod. It is expected that Mg dopants contribute to high n-type semiconductor characteristics during ZnO nanorod growth. For comparison, nonintentionally doped ZnO nanorod FETs are fabricated, and show low conductivity to compare with Mg-doped ZnO nanorods. In addition, temperature-dependent current-voltage characteristics of single ZnO nanorod FETs indicate that the activation energy of the drain current is very low (0.05-0.16 eV) at gate voltages both above and below threshold  相似文献

In this paper, we describe a comprehensive layout methodology for bonded three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D ICs). In bonded 3D integration technology, parts of a circuit are fabricated on different wafers, and then, the wafers are bonded with a glue layer of Cu or polymer based adhesive. Using our layout methodology, designers can layout such 3D circuits with necessary information on inter-wafer via/contact and orientation of each wafer embedded in the layout. We have implemented the layout methodology in 3DMagic. Availability of 3DMagic has led to interesting research with a wide range of layout-specific circuit evaluation, from performance comparison of 2D and 3D circuits to layout-specific reliability analyses in 3D circuits. Using 3DMagic, researchers have designed and simulated an 8-bit encryption processor mapped into 2D and 3D FPGA layouts. Moreover, the layout methodology is an essential element of our ongoing research for the framework of a novel Reliability Computer Aided Design tool, ERNI-3D.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Previous work has demonstrated diffusion of the monomer triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) from resin composite through dentine in vitro. The objective of the present work was to examine monomer diffusion from bonding resins and resin composites used in combination. METHODS: Occlusal cavities were prepared in tooth crowns and restored with bonding resin-resin composite combinations. Aqueous samples from the 'pulpal chamber' of each tooth were removed at timed intervals for analysis by reversed phase-high performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. RESULTS: Bonding resins contributed to monomer diffusion. A TEDGMA-containing bonding resin used in combination with a TEGDMA-containing resin composite hastened and increased TEGDMA diffusion through dentine. A 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA)-containing bonding resin used in combination with a TEGDMA-containing resin composite reduced TEGDMA diffusion only slightly compared with the resin composite alone and added substantial diffusion of HEMA. CONCLUSION: The bonding resins tested contributed to monomer passage to the pulp space and did not prevent movement of monomer from resin composites to the pulp.  相似文献

Previous reports cite optimization of O2 delivery (DO2) to 660 mL/min/m2, O2 consumption (VO2) to 170 mL/min/m2, and cardiac index (CI) of 4.5 L/min as predicting survival. We prospectively evaluated 76 consecutive patients with multiple trauma admitted directly to the ICU from the operating room or emergency department. Patients had serum lactate levels and oxygen transport measured on ICU admission and at 8, 16, 24, 36, and 48 hours. Patients were analyzed with respect to survival (S) versus nonsurvival (NS), lactate clearance to normal (< or = 2 mmol/L) by 24 and 48 hours, hemodynamic optimization as defined above, as well as Injury Severity Score (ISS), ICU stay (LOS), and admission blood pressure. All patients achieved non-flow-dependent VO2. There was no difference in CI, DO2, VO2, or ISS when S was compared with NS. All 27 patients whose lactate level normalized in 24 hours survived. If lactate levels cleared to normal between 24 and 48 hours, the survival rate was 75%. Only 3 of the 22 patients who did not clear their lactate level to normal by 48 hours survived. Ten of the 25 nonsurvivors (40%) achieved the above arbitrary optimization criteria. Fifteen of the survivors never achieved any of these criteria. Optimization alone does not predict survival. However, the time needed to normalize serum lactate levels is an important prognostic factor for survival in severely injured patients.  相似文献
