This paper presents the results of a study aimed at validating psychological questionnaires evaluating temperamental and personality features. It discusses their usefulness in diagnosing drivers’ aptitude for safe driving and working as professional drivers. Three psychological questionnaires were validated: the Formal Characteristics of Behaviour – Temperament Inventory (FCB-TI), the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire – Revised and Short Scale (EPQ-R (S)) and the Impulsiveness Questionnaire (IVE). Three groups of drivers (n = 246) aged 19–75 participated in the study. Group I (professional drivers; n = 96) and Group II (nonprofessional drivers; n = 75) had never been involved in road crashes, whereas Group III (nonprofessional drivers; n = 75) were offenders involved in fatal injury road crashes. Criterion-related validity, Cronbach's alpha and Guttman split-half reliability coefficient were in assessing the psychometric properties of the questionnaires. There were some significant differences between Groups II and III for most traits. However, contrary to expectations, higher Emotional Reactivity, Perseveration and lower Endurance as well as higher Neuroticism, Impulsiveness and Venturesomeness were determined for Group II than for Group III. Additionally, the temperament and personality profile of Group II turned out to be less fitted to the profile of safe drivers than that of Group III, whose profile was actually similar to that of Group I. This seems to result from a high tendency for a positive self-presentation among Group I and Group III (a significantly higher result on the Lie scale in comparison with Group II). The results suggest that if psychological tests are to decide on whether a person may be a professional driver or may drive vehicles, the three questionnaires (FCB-TI, EPQ-R(S) and IVE) do not provide a valid diagnosis of professional drivers’ aptitude because of drivers’ high tendency for positive self-presentation. However, they can be used in job counselling and in screening high-risk drivers.  相似文献

R. S. Drabman et al (see record 1988-15423-001) investigated children's month of birth in relation to mental health referrals and found that the younger children in a class were disproportionately referred for services. We conducted a replication and extension of the Drabman et al. investigation. Data were collected on children's (N?=?222) cognitive and academic competencies. Results indicated that (a) younger children in a class were disproportionately referred, (b) the referral pattern remained constant across all grades examined, (c) the referral pattern could not be explained by differences in children's competencies, and (d) although the youngest children in the class were referred most frequently, they had the lowest rate of qualification for special services. Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a malignant soft tissue cancer that develops mostly in children and young adults. With regard to histopathology, four rhabdomyosarcoma types are distinguishable: embryonal, alveolar, pleomorphic and spindle/sclerosing. Currently, increased amounts of evidence indicate that not only gene mutations, but also epigenetic modifications may be involved in the development of RMS. Epigenomic changes regulate the chromatin architecture and affect the interaction between DNA strands, histones and chromatin binding proteins, thus, are able to control gene expression. The main aim of the study was to assess the role of protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMT) in the cellular biology of rhabdomyosarcoma. In the study we used two pan-inhibitors of PRMT, called AMI-1 and SAH, and evaluated their effects on proliferation and apoptosis of RMS cells. We observed that AMI-1 and SAH reduce the invasive phenotype of rhabdomyosarcoma cells by decreasing their proliferation rate, cell viability and ability to form cell colonies. In addition, microarray analysis revealed that these inhibitors attenuate the activity of the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and affect expression of genes related to it.  相似文献

This study was designed to investigate the interaction between high-dose oral ganciclovir (6,000 mg/day) and didanosine at steady state in patients who were seropositive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. The study was conducted as an open-label, randomized, three-period crossover study. Patients received (in random order) multiple oral doses of didanosine 200 mg every 12 hours alone, ganciclovir 2,000 mg every 8 hours alone, and ganciclovir 2,000 mg every 8 hours in combination with didanosine 200 mg every 12 hours. Blood and urine samples for determinations of drug concentrations were obtained on day 3 of each dose regimen. When ganciclovir was administered either before or 2 hours after didanosine, the mean increases in maximum concentration (Cmax), area under the concentration-time curve (AUC0-12), and percent excreted in urine of didanosine were 58.6% and 87.3%, 87.3% and 124%, and 100% and 153%, respectively. There were no statistically significant effects of didanosine on the steady-state pharmacokinetics of ganciclovir in the presence of didanosine, irrespective of sequence of administration. There were no significant changes in renal clearance of didanosine, suggesting that the mechanism for the interaction does not involve competition for active renal tubular secretion. The mechanism responsible for increased didanosine concentrations and percent excreted in urine during concurrent ganciclovir therapy may be a result of increased bioavailability of didanosine. However, the mechanism appears to be saturated at oral ganciclovir doses of 3 g/day.  相似文献

Wir betrachten aus der Menge aller Lösungsalgorithmen für Zuschnittprobleme vernünftige Algorithmen und geben Güteabschätzungen für diese Klasse an. Garcinol extracted from Garcinia indica fruit peel and leaves is a polyisoprenylated benzophenone. In traditional medicine it was used for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Several studies have shown anti-cancer properties of garcinol in cancer cell lines and experimental animal models. Garcinol action in cancer cells is based on its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but also on its potency to inhibit histone acetyltransferases (HATs). Recent studies indicate that garcinol may also deregulate expression of miRNAs involved in tumour development and progression. This paper focuses on the latest research concerning garcinol as a HAT inhibitor and miRNA deregulator in the development and progression of various cancers. Garcinol may be considered as a candidate for next generation epigenetic drugs, but further studies are needed to establish the precise toxicity, dosages, routes of administration, and safety for patients.  相似文献

This paper addresses the need to increase the section lengths of electrical distribution cables in underground ducts by reducing the uncertainty of present analytical predictions for maximum pulling forces exerted on the cable during installation. New analytical models are proposed to take into account several additional effects related mainly to the bending stiffness of the cable. These bending effects, neglected by the classical Rifenburg-Smith model available to date, are in some cases responsible for substantial increases in pulling forces. The new models consider the geometrical and physical nonlinearity of the behavior of a cable stiff in bending and subjected to high tension. However, they are all fairly approximate in nature because they are based on simplifying assumptions aimed at obtaining conservative analytical results for the pulling forces to use in the line design. Based on these bending models, a new computer program, PULLFLEX, has been developed which is able to calculate and check all the mechanical limits of the cable, including pulling tensions and sidewall bearing pressures. The program was validated by comparison with field measurements taken on several underground sections, some built specially for testing and others part of real lines. Tissue processing for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is commonly accomplished using ethanol (EtOH) as a dehydrating solvent and propylene oxide (PO) as a transition fluid. Both solvents have some undesirable properties: EtOH solubilizes lipids; PO is highly flammable, volatile, toxic, and potentially carcinogenic. Their replacement by a compound devoid of these characteristics is therefore desirable. Acetonitrile (AN) appears to be such a solvent. It is freely miscible with water, alcohols, acetone, and epoxy resins; it does not interfere with epoxy polymerization; and the resulting cured resins have excellent cutting quality and beam stability. AN is also an excellent dehydrating agent whose use does not necessitate modification of current techniques. Most importantly, the low solubility of phospholipids (PL) in AN limits the loss of membrane lipids and, hence, leads to a better preservation of tissue features.  相似文献

Purinergic signalling plays a crucial role in proper functioning of the nervous system. Mechanisms depending on extracellular nucleotides and their P2 receptors also underlie a number of nervous system dysfunctions. This review aims to present the role of purinergic signalling, with particular focus devoted to role of P2 family receptors, in epilepsy, depression, neuropathic pain, nervous system neoplasms, such as glioma and neuroblastoma, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. The above-mentioned conditions are associated with changes in expression of extracellular ectonucleotidases, P2X and P2Y receptors in neurons and glial cells, as well as releasing considerable amounts of nucleotides from activated or damaged nervous tissue cells into the extracellular space, which contributes to disturbance in purinergic signalling. The numerous studies indicate a potential possibility of using synthetic agonists/antagonists of P2 receptors in treatment of selected nervous system diseases. This is of particular significance, since numerous available agents reveal a low effectiveness and often produce side effects.  相似文献

A key technology required for fabricating single and multi-band mesa photodiodes with pixel sizes less than or equal to 25 μm is the development of an anisotropic etch process for HgCdTe. The primary approach investigated for this purpose has been electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) dry etching. This paper reviews an experiment used to optimize the ECR etch process at Lockheed Martin IR Imaging Systems, Inc. and then the use of the process to produce state-of-the-art LW photodiodes. In this work, a Ar:H plasma was used in a Plasma Therm series 700 ECR plasma etcher. Reactor variables were optimized by a designed experiment against the following response parameters: anisotropy, etch uniformity and “damage,” as measured by the photodiode zero bias and reverses bias impedance characteristics. The critical process variables of Ar:H gas pressure, lower magnet current, and electrode height were all optimized. The optimized process parameters were then utilized to fabricate arrays with 80K cut-off wavelengths in excess of 11 μm, R0As of 29 Ω-cm2, Rd20mV/Rd0mV>13 and quantum efficiency>71%.  相似文献
