Measurement of the hydrodynamic characteristics of artificial heart valves by photochromic visualization

We propose using photochromic visualization to measure the hydrodynamic characteristics of artificial heart valves under simulated physiological flow conditions. The photochromic visualization method is based on generation of colored markers in the flow behind the artificial heart valve in a time equal to 10⁻⁶ to 10⁻⁹ sec. Transition section in continuous bar casting during the serial casting of different steels

In continuous slab casting at OAO Magnitogorskii Metallurgicheskii Kombinat (MMK), metal of different grades in a series is separated by leaving an appropriate quantity of steel from the previous melt in the intermediate ladle. The losses of metal are least on leaving around 12 t of steel in the intermediate ladle. The mass of the transition sections of mixed composition in the bar billet is 2.5 times the mass of the steel left in the ladle.     

Unit for alleviating the secondary oxidation of steel cast in an open stream on continuous section casters

Results are reported from factory testing of different models of equipment that make it possible to limit the oxidation of steel as it is being cast on the tundish-mold section of continuous casters. Wear resistance of a plasma-electrospark zirconium diboride-based coating on aluminum alloy D16T

The paper examines the structure, phase composition, and mechanical properties of ZrB₂-based plasma coatings formed on D16T aluminum alloy under different conditions. It is established that coatings with an electrospark sublayer are characterized by stronger adhesion with the substrate as compared with that deposited on the base after conventional sandblasting. The wear resistance of this coating in dry friction is comparable with the monolithic VK15 hard alloy.
