A series of polyurethane (PU) elastomers was prepared by the reaction of poly(?‐caprolactone) and 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate, which was extended with a series of chain extenders (CEs) having 2–10 methylene units in their structure. The completion of the reaction was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The chemical structures of the synthesized PU samples were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy, and the thermal properties were determined by thermogravimetric analysis, DSC, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis techniques. The mechanical properties were also studied and are discussed. The thermogravimetric analysis and DSC analysis showed that CE length had a considerable effect on the thermal properties of the prepared samples. The dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and damping peaks were also affected by the number of methylene units in the CE length. The elastomer extended with 1,2‐ethane diol exhibited optimum thermal properties, whereas the elastomer based on 1,10‐decane diol displayed the worst thermal properties. Tensile strength and elongation at break decreased with increasing CE length, whereas hardness showed the opposite trend. The glass‐transition temperature moved toward lower temperatures with increasing CE length. The decrease in the glass‐transition temperature and tensile properties were interpreted in terms of decreasing hard segments and increasing chain flexibility. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new measurement technique for the characterization of uniaxial as well as biaxial anisotropic surfaces and thin films is introduced. This technique is based on perpendicular-incidence photometric ellipsometry, in which a spectral-photometric dynamic ellipsometer with a rotating polarizer is used. This method is sensitive, contactless, nondestructive, and efficient for the estimation of anisotropic behavior. Furthermore, the spectroscopic measurement directly provides the anisotropy dispersion down to the UV wavelength range. Results on structurally anisotropic HfO(2) coatings are presented. 相似文献

Carbon fibre reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMC), originally developed for lightweight heat shields of spacecraft, are used for high performance brake discs in sports cars from different manufacturers. In contrast to the CMC materials for space applications, based on woven fabrics and costly manufacturing methods, these low cost friction materials are produced by liquid silicon infiltration of porous Carbon/Carbon (C/C) preforms, based on short fibre reinforced CFRP green bodies manufactured via warm press technique. Synthesis and characterization of novel curcumin based polyurethanes varying diisocyanates structure

In this research work, novel polyurethanes (PUs) based on blends of curcumin/1,4-butane diol (BDO) by varying the structure of diisocyanates were prepared following step growth polymerization. Structural study of blends and various diisocyanates based PU through Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the incorporation of curcumin into the backbone of the PU. The scanning electron microscopic (SEM) study confirmed the well dispersion of incorporated curcumin and homogeneity of surface of synthesized samples. The SEM results also indicated that surface morphology of synthesized samples much dependent on diisocynates structure. Moreover SEM images inferred that phase separation is more pronounced in aromatic diisocyanate based PU. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal tests were performed against different strains in order to determine the biocompatibility of the curcumin based PU. The antimicrobial activity results revealed that the material having aromatic diisocyanate are more biocompatible than the aliphatic diisocyanates in the PU structure. On the whole, this work is actually a step towards the generation of novel biocompatible materials preferably useful for biomedical applications. 相似文献

Age related macular degeneration of the eye is brought about by damage to the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and is a major cause of adult blindness. One potential treatment method is transplantation of RPE cells grown in vitro. Maintaining RPE cell viability and physiological function in vitro is a challenge, and this must also be achieved using materials that can be subsequently used to deliver an intact cell sheet into the eye. In this paper, plasma polymerisation has been used to develop a chemically modified surface for maintaining RPE cells in vitro. Multiwell plates modified with a plasma copolymer of allylamine and octadiene maintained RPE cell growth at a level similar to that of TCPS. However, the addition of bound glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) to the plasma polymerised surface significantly enhanced RPE proliferation. Simply adding GAG to the culture media had no positive effect. It is shown that a combination of plasma polymer and GAG is a promising method for developing suitable surfaces for cell growth and delivery, that can be applied to any substrate material. 相似文献

The relative contributions of protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs) and protein kinase C isoenzymes (PKCs), a family of serine/threonine kinases, in integrin alpha(IIb)beta3 (glycoprotein IIb/IIIa) exposure are the subject of much controversy. In the present study we measured the effect of the PTK inhibitor herbimycin A and the PKC inhibitor bisindolylmaleimide I on 125I-fibrinogen binding to alpha(IIb)beta3 and on aggregation/secretion induced by different agonists. Dose-response studies showed complete inhibition of alpha(IIb)beta3 exposure by 30 micromol/L (ADP stimulation) and 35 to 40 micromol/L (alpha-thrombin stimulation) herbimycin A. In contrast, inhibition of exposure by bisindolylmaleimide I varied from none (for ADP and epinephrine), to 30% (for platelet-activating factor), and to approximately 80% (for alpha-thrombin). Studies with a submaximal dose of herbimycin A (approximately 50% inhibition of the ADP-response) and a maximal dose of bisindolylmaleimide I showed that optical aggregation had a similar sensitivity to the inhibitors as alpha(IIb)beta3 exposure with minimal interference by secreted ADP. Thus, the relative contributions of tyrosine and serine/threonine kinases in alpha(IIb)beta3 exposure and aggregation differ among the different agonists, with an exclusive role for PTKs in ADP- and epinephrine-induced responses and a role for both PTKs and PKCs in responses induced by platelet-activating factor and alpha-thrombin. 相似文献
