Several electrostatic technologies, such as separation of granular mixtures, flocking, printing, or biological cell manipulation, are based on the accurate control of conductive particle motion in insulating gases or liquids by means of relatively high DC electric fields. This paper is aimed at characterizing the behavior of such particles by numerical modeling of two aspects: (1) particle motion under the action of electric field forces and (2) insulation breakdown triggered by mobile particles. The equations of particle motion were written by taking into account both gravitational and drag forces, as well as the rebound at particle impact with the electrodes. If the particles move in ionized air, their charge varies in time. In that case, the equation of particle charge should be added to the mathematical model. The output data of the programs for numerical simulation of particle behavior are in good agreement with the available experimental results. Particle movements were shown to be influenced by the intensity of the electric field, by the density of the space charge, by size and mass density of the particles, as well as by their coefficient of restitution at impact with the electrodes. The conclusions regarding the behavior of conductive particles in insulating fluids are useful for the development of improved electrostatic separation technologies; they are of particular interest to all manufacturers of high-voltage equipment  相似文献

Nonfiltered rectifiers and pulsed power supplies are often used for the energization of the high-voltage electrodes in various electrostatic installations. The aim of this paper is to investigate the ionic charging of insulating particles in the pulsatory electric fields specific to such applications. In a first set of numerical simulations, the space charge was considered constant in time, which means that the ion generation is not related to the voltage drop between the electrodes. A second set of simulations was carried out using the assumption that the space charge is generated by the pulsed corona from one of the electrodes. The computed results, which were found in good agreement with the experimental data, show that the amount of charge acquired by a particle depends on the following factors: (1) particle transit time through the electric field zone; (2) space charge density; and (3) ratio between the corona onset voltage and the amplitude of the variable voltage applied to the electrodes. These factors are discussed in correlation with the operating parameters of roll-type corona-electrostatic separators, but the conclusions are valid for a wider group of industry applications  相似文献

We report the deposition of Si-N films by multipulse excimer laser ( = 308 nm, FWHM = 30 ns) ablation of Si wafers placed in a slow flow of NH3 in the pressure range (1 bar-1 mbar). The films are deposited on to a Si collector placed parallel to the Si target. We succeeded in depositing pure amorphous Si3N4 films at a pressure of 1 mbar of NH3. The deposition rate reached a maximum value of 0.2–0.3 nm per pulse. At lower pressures, the deposited films consist of a fine mixture of three amorphous phases (amorphous stoichiometric silicon nitride, amorphous non-stoichiometric silicon nitride and amorphous silicon). The amorphous silicon is prevalent in films deposited at a pressure of several to several tens of bars. Droplets of polycrystalline -Si are sometimes visible on the film surface. The experimental evidence, is analysed with a view to elucidating the participation in the chemical synthesis of the three main stages of the process: the substance expulsion from the target by laser ablation, the transition through the gas of the expulsed substance and it's final impact on the collector. We conclude that silicon nitride is mostly synthesized during the impact on the collector of the flow of the ablated substance.  相似文献

The almost unlimited access to educational information plethora came with a drawback: finding meaningful material is not a straightforward task anymore. Recommender algorithms can be used to make smart decisions in complex information systems and help the users decide upon useful materials; therefore, they become a promising area in academia and industry. The current paper presents a survey on educational recommender systems (RS): a set of analysis criteria are exposed and the technological specifications and challenges of each analysed system are provided, in the context of the main trends in the development of RS. Also, an ontology-based educational recommendation mechanism is proposed and its application to lifelong learning is highlighted, proving that RS can successfully support new learning paradigms.  相似文献

The efficiency of electrostatic separation processes depends on a multitude of factors, including the characteristics of the granular mixtures to be sorted, the feed rate, the configuration of the electrode system, the applied high voltage, and the environmental conditions. The possibility of optimizing the operation of industrial electrostatic separators using rather simple computed-assisted experimental design techniques has already been demonstrated. The aim of the present work is to analyze the peculiarities of application of a more sophisticated group of response surface experimental design techniques that make use of quadratic functions for modeling the electrostatic separation process. One unique contribution to this work is to consider the economic value of the process in addition to the technical result. The 11 electrostatic separation tests, corresponding to a central composite design, were carried out on samples of chopped electric wire wastes. The CARPCO laboratory roll-type electrostatic separator employed for this study enabled a rigorous control of two factors: the applied high-voltage level and the speed of the rotating roll electrode. The objective was to maximize the benefits from the recycling of both constituents of the binary copper-polyvinyl chloride granular mixture. The optimum operating conditions computed with the quadratic model derived from the experimental results were in good agreement with the data of pilot-plant tests. Thus, the highest extraction of useful materials was obtained at high voltage and low speed, while the optimum conditions for greatest economic value were found to be high voltage and high speed. The response surface methodology can be easily applied to most of the industrial applications of electrostatic separation technologies.  相似文献

Laser direct write techniques represent a prospective alternative for engineering a new generation of hybrid biomaterials via the creation of patterns consisting of biological proteins onto practically any type of substrate. In this paper we report on the characterization of fibronectin features obtained onto titanium substrates by UV nanosecond laser transfer. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy measurements evidenced no modification in the secondary structure of the post-transferred protein. The molecular weight of the transferred protein was identical to the initial fibronectin, no fragment bands being found in the transferred protein’s Western blot migration profile. The presence of the cell-binding domain sequence and the mannose groups within the transferred molecules was revealed by anti-fibronectin monoclonal antibody immunolabelling and FITC-Concanavalin-A staining, respectively. The in vitro tests performed with MC3T3-E1 osteoblast-like cells and Swiss-3T3 fibroblasts showed that the cells’ morphology and spreading were strongly influenced by the presence of the fibronectin spots.  相似文献

YBa2Cu3O7?δ films were deposited on CeO2-buffered nickel substrates, with different buffer thickness. Full width at half maximum of rocking curve, Δω, of CeO2 and yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO), as well as the critical temperature, T c, of YBCO were shown to be strongly dependent on buffer thickness. They behave similarly but not proportional to the buffer thickness increase. This and the fact that Δω vs. buffer thickness and T c vs. buffer thickness for YBCO behave similar with RMS roughness vs. thickness of CeO2 indicates that the surface peculiarity of buffers is responsible for YBCO properties. More precisely, the surface of CeO2 films prepared by the chemical solution route based on propionic acid is prone to agglomerate (de-wet) and the degree of agglomeration depends in an intricate way on buffer thickness. We showed that nor RMS roughness neither (00 l) texture degree can define alone the surface suitable for c-axis YBCO nucleation. The {111} faceted grains (even in the case of high (00 l) texture) and other defects generated by agglomeration supply a low fraction of (00 l) flat terminations of buffer that affect the nucleation of c-axis-oriented YBCO phase. Moreover, the thermal instability of the surface morphology of CeO2 buffers (further development of de-wetting process, {111} faceted grains, etc. during superconducting layer deposition) influence the quality of YBCO films.  相似文献

One of the obstacles preventing the widespread adoption of multi-agent systems in industry is the difficulty of implementing heterogeneous interactions among participating agents via asynchronous messages. This difficulty arises from the need to understand how to combine elements of various content languages, ontologies, and interaction protocols in order to construct meaningful and appropriate messages. In this paper mPower, a component-based layered framework for easing the development of multi-agent systems, is described, and the facility for customising the components for reuse in similar domains is explained. The framework builds on the JADE-LEAP platform, which provides a homogeneous layer over diverse operating systems and hardware devices, and allows ubiquitous deployment of applications built on multi-agent systems both in wired and wireless environments. The use of the framework to develop mPowermobile, a multi-agent system to support mobile workforces, is also reported. This paper presents our method, which simultaneously combines automatic imaging, identification, and counting with the acquisition of morphological information for at least 1000 blood cells from several three-dimensional images of the same sample. We started with seeking parameters to differentiate between red blood cells that are similar but different with respect to their development stage, i.e., mature or immature. We highlight that these cells have different diffractive patterns with complementary central intensity distribution in a given plane along the propagation axis. We use the Fresnel approximation to simulate propagation through cells modeled as spheroid-shaped phase objects and to find the cell property that has the dominant influence on this behavior. Starting with images obtained in the reconstruction step of the digital holographic microscopy technique, we developed a code for automated simultaneous individual cell image separation, identification, and counting, even when the cells are partially overlapped on a slide, and accurate measuring of their morphological features. To find the centroids of each cell, we propose a method based on analytical functions applied at threshold intervals. Our procedure separates the mature from the immature red blood cells and from the white blood cells through a decision based on gradient and radius values.  相似文献
