The Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) operates onboard the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Earth Observing System Aura satellite, which was launched in July 2004. Like its sister spacecraft Terra and Aqua, Aura's capabilities include direct broadcast (DB), i.e., the ability to broadcast data at the same time as they are being measured and stored in the spacecraft's memory for later transmission to Earth. The Finnish Meteorological Institute's Satellite Data Centre at Sodankyla/spl uml/ in Finnish Lapland is exploiting this capability to receive OMI data while Aura is in sight of the receiver, which enables nearly immediate production of OMI data products for a region that includes a large part of Europe, stretching from the North Pole to the Italian Alps. The current OMI Very Fast Delivery (VFD) products include maps of surface UV-B, ozone columns, and cloud coverage.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the response of the autonomic nervous system in younger (mean age 31 yrs, n=14) and older (mean age 54 yrs, n=14) healthy female teachers during work periods of perceived high and low stress. In the younger participants, heart rate, cortisol excretion rate and psychosomatic symptoms were significantly higher during the high work stress period. The older participants experienced no decrease in their heart rate and cortisol excretion during the low stress period and they exhibited no significant decrease in blood pressure after the work in the evening during both periods. It may be concluded that the recovery from the stress in the older teachers was insufficient particularly in view of their elevated diastolic blood pressure during the low work stress period. Ergonomic and individually tailored measures in terms of work time control, specific relaxation techniques, and a part-time retirement may improve the stress management of older teachers.  相似文献

The effect of strain rate on strain-induced γα′-martensite transformation and mechanical behavior of austenitic stainless steel grades EN 1.4318 (AISI 301LN) and EN 1.4301 (AISI 304) was studied at strain rates ranging between 3×10−4 and 200 s−1. The most important effect of the strain rate was found to be the adiabatic heating that suppresses the strain-induced γα′ transformation. A correlation between the work-hardening rate and the rate of γα′ transformation was found. Therefore, the changes in the extent of the α′-martensite formation strongly affected the work-hardening rate and the ultimate tensile strength of the materials. Changes in the martensite formation and work-hardening rate affected also the ductility of the studied steels. Furthermore, it was shown that the square root of the α′-martensite fraction is a linear function of flow stress. This indicates that the formation of α′-martensite affects the stress by influencing the dislocation density of the austenite phase. Olson-Cohen analysis of the martensite measurement results did not indicate any effect of strain rate on shear band formation, which was contrary to the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examinations. The β parameter decreased with increasing strain rate, which indicates a decrease in the chemical driving force of the αα′ transformation.  相似文献

The triboelectric charging of fungal spores was experimentally characterized during rebound and resuspension. A fungal spore source strength tester (FSSST) was used as a primary aerosol generator for spores of three fungal species and two powders (silicon carbide and silver). The critical velocity of rebound was determined using a variable nozzle area impactor (VNAI), and the charging state of particles after resuspension and rebound was measured using the FSSST, different impactor setups, electrometers, and optical particle counters. In the impactor setups and the FSSST, five different surface materials relevant for indoor environments were used (steel, glass, polystyrene, paper, and polytetrafluoroethylene). The critical velocity of rebound was determined to be 0.57 m/s for fungal spores, which is relatively low compared to silicon carbide and previous results for micron-sized aerosol particles. Based on the rebound impactor measurements, we were able to define the crucial parameters of charge transfer for different particle–surface material pairs. A contact charge parameter, which describes the triboelectric charging during rebound, was found to have a negative correlation with the charging state of the particles after the resuspension from an impactor. This connects the triboelectric charging during rebound and resuspension to each other. Based on the contact charge parameter values, quantified triboelectric series could be formed. The results of this work show that fungal spores can be charged both positively and negatively during rebound and resuspension depending on the fungal species and surface material.

Microcosms of a boreal peatland originating from an oligotrophic fen in Eastern Finland were fumigated under four ozone concentrations (0, 50, 100 and 150 ppb O3) in laboratory growth chambers during two separate experiments (autumn and summer) for 4 and 6 weeks, respectively. Ozone effects on Sphagnum mosses and the fluxes of carbon dioxide and methane were evaluated. In both experiments, the three Sphagnum species studied showed only a few significant responses to ozone. In the autumn experiment, membrane permeability of S. angustifolium, measured as conductivity and magnesium leakage, was significantly higher under ozone fumigation (P = 0.005 and < 0.001, respectively), and there was a distinct dose-dependence. S. magellanicum showed no clear responses, either for membrane leakage or pigment content. There were no substantial ozone responses in the gross photosynthesis or net CO2 exchange during the 6-week-long summer experiment, but dark ecosystem respiration was transiently increased by ozone concentration of 100 ppb after 14 days of exposure (P < 0.05). Fumigation with 100 ppb of ozone, however, more than doubled (P < 0.05) methane emission from the peatland monoliths. Our results suggest that increasing tropospheric ozone concentration may cause substantial changes in the carbon gas cycling of boreal peatlands, even though these changes are not closely associated with the changes in Sphagnum vegetation.  相似文献

Drawn self-reinforced polyglycolide (SR-PGA) rods, Ø 2 mm and 26 mm long, were implanted in the dorsal subcutaneus tissue of 16 rats. Osteotomies of the distal femur were fixed with SR-PGA rods (2 mm by 15 mm) in another 38 rats. The follow-up times varied from one week to one year. After sacrifice, three-point bending and shear tests were performed for subcutaneously placed rods. Radiological, histological, histomorphometrical, microradiographic, and oxytetracycline-fluorescence studies of osteotomized and intact control femora were also performed. At three weeks the flexural strength of the rods was 50% of the initial value, and the flexural modulus was 46% of the initial value. Five osteotomy specimens had to be excluded due to dislocation or non-union. One of the 33 evaluated osteotomy specimens showed signs of postoperative infection. Thirty-two osteotomies healed uneventfully. No gross signs of inflammatory or foreign-body reaction were observed. The amount of osteoid surface and active osteoid formation surface reached their highest value in the histomorphometrical analysis at 24 weeks. The present investigation demonstrated that the mechanical strength and fixation properties of the drawn SR-PGA rods are suitable for fixation of cancellous bone osteotomies in rats. The present article is the first report on the successful application of drawn SR-PGA rods for fixation of cancellous bone osteotomies.  相似文献

In design standards and in post-service life assessment, the cross-weld (CW) creep strength of ferritic steels is nearly universally assumed to be 80% of the corresponding value for the parent material (PH). However, CW data assessment of some 9% Cr steels such as E911 and P91 suggests that this would not hold at least at the high temperature end of the testing range. The resulting weld creep strength factor (WSF) is then attaining values well below 0.8 when extrapolated to typical design life of 100 000 h or more. Under such conditions the conventional value of 0.8 would result in non-conservative (too long) predicted life for structures subjected to CW loading in the creep regime.To accommodate the CW strength data for realistic values of WSF requires appropriate correction based on actual data. For this purpose, an alternative assessment approach, rigidity parameter correction (RPC), is proposed. This approach can be used to predict CW rupture strength from the PM master curves, with any PM rupture model optimized to correspond to the welded materials data.  相似文献

Self-reinforced poly(L/DL)lactide 70:30/bioactive glass [SR-P(L/DL)LA/bioactive glass] composite rods, 2 mm in diameter and 36 mm in length, were implanted into the dorsal subcutaneous tissue of 16 rats. Osteotomies of the distal femur were fixed with these rods (2 x 15 mm) in 64 other rats. The follow-up times varied from one week to one year. After sacrifice, three-point bending and shear tests, and molecular weight measurements were performed for subcutaneously placed rods. Radiological, histological, histomorphometrical, microradiographic, and oxytetracycline-fluorescence studies of the osteotomized and intact control femora were performed. At 24 weeks the mechanical properties had decreased significantly. Thirty-nine osteotomies healed uneventfully. One of the 64 evaluated osteotomies showed signs of infection at six weeks, and there were 19 non-unions and six delayed unions. In 20 operations the fixation was loose and out of these 14 non-unions were observed. No gross signs of inflammatory or foreign-body reactions were observed. The present investigation showed that the mechanical strength and fixation properties of SR-P(L/DL)LA/bioactive glass composite rods are suitable for fixation of cancellous bone osteotomies in rats as long as the operative technique is correct. The present article is the first report on the application of SR-P(L/DL)LA/bioactive glass composite rods for fixation of cancellous bone osteotomies.  相似文献

We have developed assay technologies to measure hydrolyzing enzymes based on homogeneous time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TruPoint). High sensitivity was obtained using fluorescent europium chelates as labels, internally quenched by suitable quenchers and released upon enzymatic reaction. This approach allows robust and sensitive monitoring of low enzyme activities. The assay technology and the choice of donor-acceptor pairs were evaluated in three different enzymatic assays, a protease related to apoptosis, helicase involved in DNA unwinding, and phosphatase having an important role in cellular signaling cascades. All the assays produced an increasing signal, were sensitive, and had a good dynamic range. There were significant differences in optimized quenchers for each of the assays depending on the size, flexibility, and rigidity of the substrates. Also, clear differences in the energy-transfer reactions, their requirements for spectral overlapping, ionic interactions, and energy-transfer distances were found. Each of the enzymatic assays was briefly tested in a high-throughput screening environment by analyzing signal dynamics and statistical relevance as Z' factors.  相似文献

Polylactide stereocopolymer multifilament fibers were prepared by wet spinning and subsequent hot drawing. The stereocopolymers were poly‐(L,D ‐lactide) [P(L,D )LA], L/D ratio 96/4, and poly‐(L,DL ‐lactide) [P(L,DL )LA], L/DL ratio 70/30. They were dissolved in dichloromethane and coagulated in a spin bath containing ethanol. The hot‐drawing temperature was 65°C. The draw ratios (DR) were upto 4.5 to the P(L,D )LA 96/4 filaments and upto 3 to the P(L,DL )LA 70/30 filaments. Wet spinning decreased crystallinities of both copolymers. Hot drawing increased the crystallinity of the P(L,D )LA 96/4 filament but not to the level of the original copolymer, whereas the as‐spun and the hot‐drawn P(L,DL )LA 70/30 filaments were amorphous. The filament diameter, tenacity, Young's modulus, and elongation at break were dependent on the DR. The maximum tenacity (285 MPa) and Young's modulus (2.0 GPa) were achieved with the P(L,D )LA 96/4 filament at the DR of 4.5. Respectively, the maximum tenacity of the hot‐drawn P(L,DL )LA 70/30 filament was 175 MPa and Young's modulus 1.3 GPa at the DR of 3.
