Interaction in polymer blends via dilute solution light-scattering under optical θ-conditions

Summary It is demonstrated that dilute solution light —scattering experiments under ‘optical θconditions’ offer rapid and reliable judgement of the interaction parameters in polymer blends. This has been verified with miscible blends of polystyrene with poly(vinylmethylether) and with the immiscible pair polystyrene —poly(vinylisobutylether). The capabilities of the optical θ-approach in order to derive the influence of polymerpolymer interaction on chain dimensions are discussed shortly. Herrn Dr. B. Sedlacec zu seinem 60. Effect of Bleaching Earth on the Formation of Fatty Acids during Bleaching Investigations were carried out with neutralized soybean and cottonseed oils in order to determine the effect of acid content of bleaching earths with different activities on the formation of free fatty acids during the adsorptive bleaching. The free fatty acid content of the oils under investigation decreased with increasing acidity of the highly active and moderately active bleaching earth. The increase in acid value of the oil during bleaching is essentially dependent on the duration of bleaching and amount of bleaching earth employed. The water content of the oil has no decisive effect.

Dieser Artikel beschreibt im Detail die datenschutzfreundliche Ausgestaltung des Sperrmanagements, wie es im neuen deutschen Personalausweis zum Einsatz kommt.     

Einfluß der Warmverformung auf das Umwandlungsverhalten und das Gefüge von verschiedenen niedriglegierten Stählen

Bei der Ermittlung von kontinuierlichen ZTU-Schaubildern unter dem Einfluß einer Warmverformung von rund 50% wurde festgestellt, daß die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen der verformungs- und legierungsbedingten Realstruktur des Austenits und den Umwandlungsvorgängen bei der anschließenden Abkühlung sich stark auf die Kinetik der γ/α-Umwandlung auswirkt. Änderungen im Löslichkeitsverhalten und in der Diffusionskinetik der Legierungselemente sowie in der Selbstdiffusion des Eisens als Folge der durch die bei der Umformung eingebrachten Gitterfehler im Austenit beeinflussen sowohl die Keimbildung als auch das Wachstum der verschiedenen Umwandlungsphasen. Die Ergebnisse von Versuchen an mehreren niedriglegierten Kohlenstoffstählen zeigen auf, daß die Austenitumwandlung zu Ferrit und Perlit durch eine erhöhte Konzentration an Gitterleerstellen infolge der Warmumformung beschleunigt wird. Die martensitische Umwandlung wird ebenso von der Defektstellenkonzentration im verformten Austenit in dem Sinne beeinflußt, daß die Martensit-Starttemperatur M_s im Vergleich zum unverformten Zustand zu etwa 30 bis 40°C niedrigeren Werten verschoben wird. Es liegen Beweise vor, daß die Erniedrigung der M_s-Temperatur zusätzlich mit der Entstehung einer starken {123} ?412?-Austenittextur verknüpft ist. Bei umwandlungsträgen Stahlsorten wurden beim kontinuierlichen Abkühlen umwandlungsfreie Bereiche zwischen der Ferrit/Perlit- und Bainitstufe als Folge der Warmumformung festgestellt. Teilweise wird die bainitische Umwandlung völlig unterdrückt. Die Ausbildung einer starken Textur im Austenit vor der Bainitumwandlung führt zu einer Senkung der Bainit-Starttemperatur von bis zu 100°C bei höheren Abkühlraten.     

The phosphoprotein DARPP-32 mediates cAMP-dependent potentiation of striatal N-methyl-D-aspartate responses

The signal transduction pathway underlying the cAMP-dependent modulation of rat striatal N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) responses was investigated by using the two-electrode voltage-clamp technique. In oocytes injected with rat striatal poly(A)+ mRNA, activation of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) by forskolin potentiated NMDA responses. Inhibition of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) and/or protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) by the specific inhibitor calyculin A occluded the PKA-mediated potentiation of striatal NMDA responses, suggesting that the PKA effect was mediated by inhibition of a protein phosphatase. Coinjection of oocytes with striatal mRNA and antisense oligodeoxynucleotides directed against the protein phosphatase inhibitor DARPP-32 dramatically reduced the PKA enhancement of NMDA responses. NMDA responses recorded from oocytes injected with rat hippocampal poly(A)+ mRNA were not affected by stimulation of PKA. When oocytes were coinjected with rat hippocampal poly(A)+ mRNA plus complementary RNA coding for DARPP-32, NMDA responses were potentiated after stimulation of PKA. The results provide evidence that DARPP-32, which is enriched in the striatum, may participate in the signaling between the two major afferent striatal pathways, the glutamatergic and the dopaminergic projections, by the cAMP-dependent regulation of striatal NMDA currents.     

Use of consumer insight in the new product development process in the meat sector

Successful new product development requires input from the market throughout the product development process, from identification of opportunities via screening of ideas, development of concepts, development of physical prototypes and to launch. Drawing on work done in the EU FP6 projects PROSAFEBEEF and Q-PORKCHAINS and a Danish project, all dealing with new product development in the meat sector, it is shown how the use of consumer insight techniques can a) support the identification of market opportunities, b) make sure that technologies applied are acceptable to consumers, c) aid the selection and optimisation of new product concepts and related communication, and d) be used to test product prototypes before final launch.
