The relationship between alcohol and work was studied in a group of 537 voluntary patients (393 male and 144 female) admitted to the department of Medicina del Lavoro, Pavia University for alcohol rehabilitation. The highest incidence of alcohol abuse was found in non-working subjects (pensioners, unemployed, housewives) although the start of excessive drinking takes place after beginning a working activity; a cause-effect relationship between these two factors can not be clearly determined, however. It is true that the stress provoked by this new condition (introduction to the work experience) can, in certain subjects, be a contributing factor in alcohol abuse. The increasingly lower age of initiation to alcohol reconfirms the need for prevention and instruction even at scholastic level. We can deduce how no working condition, low age and low education can constitute makers of risk for alcohol abuse.  相似文献

The transfer cask system (TCS) is one of the remote handling systems that will operate in ITER, transporting heavy and highly activated in-vessel components between the tokamak building and the hot cell building. A motion planning methodology for the TCS was developed, providing smooth paths that maximize the clearance to obstacles and that incorporate manoeuvres whenever necessary. This paper presents the results of the TCS planning algorithm with trajectories computed for nominal operations. The length of the journey, the velocity, the time duration, and the risk of collision were evaluated individually for each trajectory. A summary of all results, conclusions and future work are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Abstract— An analysis of the influence of steady torsion loading on fatigue crack growth rates under rotating or reversed bending is presented. Mixed-mode (I + III) tests were carried out on cylindrical specimens in DIN Ck45k steel and results are compared for two different testing machines: rotary bending and reversed bending obtained by cyclic Mode I (Δ K 1) with or without superimposed static Mode III ( K III) loading, simulating the real conditions on power rotor shafts where many failures occur. The growth and shape evolution of semi-elliptical surface cracks, starting from a chordal notch on the cylindrical specimen surface, was measured for several Mode III/ Mode I ratios. Results have shown that the steady Mode III loading superimposed on the cyclic mode I leads to a significant reduction in the crack growth rates. It is suggested that this retardation is related to an increase of plastic zone size near the cylindrical surface in association with the interlocking of rough fracture surfaces, friction and fretting debris, leading to a decrease of the ΔK effective at the crack tip profile due to the "crack closure effect". This work provides a contribution to a better understanding of crack growth rates under mixed-mode load conditions thereby allowing one to predict remaining lifetimes and to estimate the risks of pre-cracked rotor shafts.  相似文献

Researchers in both environmental and petroleum engineering have conducted studies in one-dimensional columns to quantify the amount of residual nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPL) trapped in the porous media as a function of capillary, viscous and buoyancy forces. From these previous studies, it is proven that significant amounts of the original NAPL spill remain as a trapped residual. The objective of this research was to extend this body of work and to develop a correlation model that could predict residual NAPL saturation as a function of common soil characteristics and fluid properties. These properties include parameters derived from sieve analysis, namely, the uniformity coefficient (C(u)), the coefficient of gradation (C(c)), as well as fluid properties (interfacial tension, viscosity and density). Over 100 column experiments were conducted across a range of nine different soil gradations. The data produced by these tests, along with measured soil and fluid properties, were used to generate correlation models to predict residual NAPL saturation (S(rn)). The first correlation model predicts S(rn) for the region where residual NAPL saturation is independent of the capillary number, and dependent on C(u), C(c) and the Bond number. The second correlation model predicts S(rn) for the region where residual NAPL saturation is dependent on capillary number, as well as C(u), C(c) and the Bond number. The third correlation model predicts S(rn) over the entire region as a function of C(u), C(c) and the total trapping number. The correlation models have a R(2) value of 0.972, 0.934 and 0.825, respectively. Hence, the models may potentially be integrated into site characterization approaches.  相似文献

The production of thematic maps from remotely sensed images requires the application of classification methods. A great variety of classifiers are available, producing frequently considerably different results. Therefore, the automatic extraction of thematic information requires the choice of the most appropriate classifier for each application. One of the main objectives of the research described in this article is to evaluate the performance of supervised classifiers using the information provided by the application of uncertainty measures to the testing sets, instead of statistical accuracy indices. The second main objective is to show that the information provided by the uncertainty measures for the training set may be used to assess and redefine the sample sites included in this set, in order to improve the classification results. To achieve the proposed objectives, two supervised classifiers, one probabilistic and another fuzzy, were applied to a very high spatial resolution (VHSR) image. The results show that similar conclusions on the classifiers’ performance are obtained with the uncertainty measures and the traditional accuracy indices obtained from error matrices. It is also shown that the redefinition of the training set based on the information provided by the uncertainty measures may generate more accurate outputs.  相似文献

A failure analysis of two helical gear wheels of a ducted azimuth thruster is presented. The research work consisted of a fracture examination of the material in order to determine the damage root causes. The samples for the failure analysis were obtained from two broken teeth of two helical gear wheels. An analysis through the scanning electron microscope (SEM) was carried out close to the crack initiation. It was found that the damage in the bevel gears were by the fatigue fracture mode. The SEM analysis showed that the gear teeth were under severe contact stress during the operation aggravated by an inappropriate lubricating. A possible misalignment between the pinions and the gear wheels teeth could also contribute for the premature failure.  相似文献

The paper reports on a freeze‐granulation technique to prepare a novel nanocomposite of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)‐modified hydroxyapatite (HA) with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as reinforcement for a new generation biomedical bone cement and implant coatings. By using this technique it is possible to increase material homogeneity and also enhance the dispersion of MWCNTs in the composite matrix. The phase composition and the surface morphology of the nanocomposite material were studied using X‐ray diffraction, field‐emission scanning electron microscopy, and micro‐Raman spectroscopy. Additionally, nanomechanical properties of different concentrations of MWCNT‐reinforced nanocomposite were performed by a nanoindentation technique, which indicates that a concentration of 0.1 wt % MWCNTs in the PMMA/HA nanocomposite material gives the best mechanical properties.  相似文献

Product formulations for industrial processes are typically developed at laboratory scale. However, the mixing conditions are not easily mimicked in the laboratory. A rotational device is proposed in this study as a fast laboratory-scale formulation development, which enables mimicking the mixing conditions in the industrial process. The geometrical configurations of the rotational device are from rheometry devices (plate-plate and cone-plate). The main advantages of this method are the small amounts of raw materials and shorter testing times. This methodology is applied to an industrial case study, the reaction injection molding (RIM) process. The mixing length scales evolution in the rotational rheometer were matched to those in RIM machines. The main novelty of this study is the introduction of a protocol that bridges the processing conditions at laboratory using small amounts of raw materials to high throughput continuous flow reactors.  相似文献

Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is shown to be a statistical operation that identifies the main characteristics of chaotic flows and separates them into a few modes. The dynamic chaotic flow is obtained from two‐dimensional (2D) computational fluid dynamics simulations, for different Reynolds numbers, of a confined impinging jets mixer. POD enables reconstruction of the dynamic flow from a few modes that are related to coherent flow structures. The POD flow reconstruction enables a large compression of the flow data set. The decomposition of the flow field into orthogonal modes related to coherent structures provides direct insight into the mixing dynamics and scales which are not accessible from flow dynamics statistic quantities, which were introduced in the context of turbulence and are here applied to chaotic flow.  相似文献
