Experimental studies indicate that recognition of emotions, particularly negative emotions, decreases with age. However, there is no consensus at which age the decrease in emotion recognition begins, how selective this is to negative emotions, and whether this applies to both facial and vocal expression. In the current cross-sectional study, 607 participants ranging in age from 18 to 84 years (mean age = 32.6 ± 14.9 years) were asked to recognize emotions expressed either facially or vocally. In general, older participants were found to be less accurate at recognizing emotions, with the most distinctive age difference pertaining to a certain group of negative emotions. Both modalities revealed an age-related decline in the recognition of sadness and—to a lesser degree—anger, starting at about 30 years of age. Although age-related differences in the recognition of expression of emotion were not mediated by personality traits, 2 of the Big 5 traits, openness and conscientiousness, made an independent contribution to emotion-recognition performance. Implications of age-related differences in facial and vocal emotion expression and early onset of the selective decrease in emotion recognition are discussed in terms of previous findings and relevant theoretical models. In this study, polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) parameters are analysed and compared with in situ measurements in order to develop a methodology for detecting cutting practices within grassland areas. The grasslands were monitored with TerraSAR-X radar imaging in dual polarization HH/VV mode and are located near the banks of the Kasari River, close to the Baltic Sea coast of Estonia. The parameters analysed include HH, VV, HH + VV, and HH – VV backscatter, HH/VV polarimetric coherence magnitude and phase, T12 polarimetric coherence magnitude and phase, and also dual polarimetric entropy, alpha, and alpha dominant parameters. Using these parameters derived from the dual polarimetric TerraSAR-X data set, it was virtually impossible to distinguish tall grass (height >30 cm) from short grass (height <30 cm). On the other hand, it proved feasible to detect areas where grass had been cut and left on the ground. Several parameters showed specific behaviour for the state of grassland and the most notable change was found in the dual polarimetric dominant scattering alpha angle. This angle changed from 10° to 25° after tall grass had been cut and left on the ground. This behaviour of the dominant scattering alpha angle can effectively be described using a particle scattering model for vegetation backscattering.  相似文献

Alkaline and acid phosphatase activities were studied in the ovary and oviducts of pullets from the age of 2-32 weeks. Adult fowls were similarly studied. Alkaline phosphatase activity was present only in the glandular grooves and crypts of the immature oviducts. Alkaline phosphatase activity appeared at the pits of epithelial evaginations as glandular formation commenced. The young, non-secreting glands also showed the enzyme activity. But in the mature oviduct, alkaline phosphatase activity was confined to only the uterovaginal glands or sperm host glands and the epithelium of the vagina. In the ovary, alkaline phosphatase activity in the theca interna increased as the diameter of the follicles increased. Acid phosphatase activity was not present in the ovary, but in the oviduct, the enzyme activity was present in the uterine (shell gland) glands and in the uterovaginal epithelium and glands (sperm host glands). Alkaline phosphatase activity in the ovarian follicles and in the immature oviduct is thought to be related to histodifferentiation of these structures.  相似文献
