Interest in plant compounds has increased, given recent evidence regarding their role in human health due to their pleiotropic effects. For example, plant bioactive compounds present in food products, including polyphenols, are associated with preventive effects in various diseases, such as cancer or inflammation. Breast and colorectal cancers are among the most commonly diagnosed cancers globally. Although appreciable advances have been made in treatments, new therapeutic approaches are still needed. Thus, in this study, up to 28 olive leaf extracts were obtained during different seasons and using different drying temperatures. The influence of these conditions on total polyphenolic content (measured using Folin–Ciocalteu assays), antioxidant activity (using Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity and Ferric Reducing Ability of Plasma assays) and antiproliferative capacity (using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, MTT assays) was tested in breast and colorectal cancer cells. Increased phenolic composition and antioxidant and antiproliferative capacity are noted in the extracts obtained from leaves harvested in autumn, followed by summer, spring and winter. Regarding drying conditions, although there is not a general trend, conditions using the highest temperatures lead to the optimal phenolic content and antioxidant and antiproliferative activities in most cases. These results confirm previously published studies and provide evidence in support of the influence of both harvesting and drying conditions on the biological activity of olive leaf extracts. 相似文献

Starches isolated from yam varieties of Dioscorea alata and Dioscorea cayenensis‐rotundata species were prepared at different time–temperature conditions and characterised by DSC, amperometric iodine titration, light microscopy and rheology and compared to native and chemical modified tapioca starches. The observation by light microscopy showed different morphologies of the granules when heated above 100°C and the tendency for disintegration decreased in the order native tapioca starch > yam starch > modified tapioca starch. Differences between yam and tapioca starches were also revealed by DSC. Yam starch enthalpy is higher than tapioca starch, but the peak temperature is low. However, the significant differences between yam and the other tested starches were found in terms of their rheological behaviour. The viscosity of yam starch was very stable at high temperatures on the viscograph. With this property, yam starch can be used as thickening and gelling agent in food. 相似文献

Volume of fluid (VOF) method with its Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation (PLIC) reconstruction algorithm is one of the most popular approaches in numerical simulation of interfacial flows with a wide range of applications in different areas. In an effort to evaluate the similarity of the PLIC-generated planes in comparison with the exact interface, a point-cloud, based on the polygon centers of PLIC planes is extracted, which later is used to form a triangular grid that represents the estimated interface. The main objective of this article is to evaluate the interface geometrical properties based on the extracted triangular grid of the interface. The methods presented in this article, characterized by a higher spatially convergence ratio, are compared with the commonly used methods. The proposed methods are tested for two 3-dimensional general test cases, where an evident improvement is seen in calculation accuracy and spatial convergence of the errors of interface normal vector and curvature. 相似文献

In recent years, Software Defined Networking (SDN) has become an important candidate for communication infrastructure in smart cities. It produces a drastic increase in the need for delivery of video services that are of high resolution, multiview, and large-scale in nature. However, this entity gets easily influenced by heterogeneous behaviour of the user's wireless link features that might reduce the quality of video stream for few or all clients. The development of SDN allows the emergence of new possibilities for complicated controlling of video conferences. Besides, multicast routing protocol with multiple constraints in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) is a Nondeterministic Polynomial time (NP) hard problem which can be solved only with the help of metaheuristic optimization algorithms. With this motivation, the current research paper presents a new Improved Black Widow Optimization with Levy Distribution model (IBWO-LD)-based multicast routing protocol for smart cities. The presented IBWO-LD model aims at minimizing the energy consumption and bandwidth utilization while at the same time accomplish improved quality of video streams that the clients receive. Besides, a priority-based scheduling and classifier model is designed to allocate multicast request based on the type of applications and deadline constraints. A detailed experimental analysis was carried out to ensure the outcomes improved under different aspects. The world is facing a major problem due to the depletion of conventional energy sources. Hydrogen is considered one of the most promising sources of energy. Recently, one of the problems facing utilization of hydrogen energy is the storage. Therefore, finding materials to store hydrogen based on the adsorption/desorption methodology (i.e. metal hydrides) is considered extremely vital issue. During this work two candidate materials (i.e. Mg–H2 and LiNH2) were investigated at different temperatures (25–45 °C). The results revealed that both candidate materials possessed long cycle life and cyclibility which opens the wide door to use these materials in vehicular applications. On the other hand the generated mathematical models based on the multiple regression analysis with respect to ANOVA showed that increasing temperature will increase the weight of hydrogen adsorption for both candidate materials. 相似文献

Core–shell nanoparticles of Cu@Pt/C electrocatalysts were synthesized using various Pt:Cu atomic ratios with NaBH4 as a reducing agent. The crystal structure and surface morphology were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The incorporation of copper in Cu@Pt/C electrocatalysts was found to shift all Pt diffraction planes in the negative direction with expanding the crystal lattice dimensions. The electrocatalytic activity of various Cu@Pt/C electrocatalysts was investigated using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Cu@Pt/C electrocatalysts containing Pt:Cu atomic ratios of 1:0.5 and 1:2 showed an enhanced electrochemical performance for ethanol oxidation when related to Pt/C. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Iron-deficiency anemia is the most prevalent nutritional deficiency worldwide. Iron-deficiency anemia has particular negative consequences on women in their childbearing years, and its prevention is a high priority in most health systems. OBJECTIVE: This interventional study assessed the effect of nutrition education on hematologic indices, iron status, nutritional knowledge, and nutritional practices of high-school girls in Iran. METHODS: Sixty healthy 16- to 18-year-old girls were randomly selected from two high schools in the city of Ahvaz and divided into two equally matched groups, one that received nutrition education, and one that did not. The education group received instruction in face-to-face sessions, group discussions, and pamphlets for 2 months. The control group did not receive any information during the study. Hematologic tests, corpuscular indices, and serum ferritin levels were measured at baseline and after 2 months. Food-frequency questionnaires were administered and histories taken, clinical signs of nutritional deficiencies observed, anthropometric measurements taken, nutritional knowledge tested, practices determined, and lifestyle questionnaires administered to all subjects. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences in any baseline characteristics between the two groups. Scores for nutritional knowledge and practices of the education group were significantly higher after two months compared with the baseline (31.4 +/- 6 vs. 24.3 +/- 5.9 points, p < .001, and 31.2 +/- 5 vs. 28.4 +/- 5.7 points, p < .05, respectively). The scores in the control group showed no significant changes from baseline to 2 months. Mean corpuscular volume values were elevated in the education group (p < .001) but not in the control group. However, in the control group, serum ferritin concentrations showed about a 17% drop at the end of the study (p < .004). There were no changes in other hematologic, lifestyle, clinical, or anthropometric data compared with baseline after completion of the study in both groups. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that nutritional education can improve knowledge of healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices. Focused nutritional education using available resources and correcting current dietary habits in a vulnerable group of young women may result in dietary changes that can ultimately improve iron intake. 相似文献

We investigated the hydrodynamic behavior and mass transfer characteristics of a pilot-scale conventional packed bed extraction column of mercaptan removal from liquid propane. The extraction column was filled with pall rings structured packing where mercaptan was extracted from the continuous phase to the dispersed phase, accompanied by a chemical reaction in propane-mercaptan-caustic system. The pulsing was introduced into the column to enhance the mass transfer rate. Hydrodynamic parameters such as hold up, flooding velocity and mean drop size were studied together with the effect of chemical reaction on increasing mass transfer performance. Finally, the mass transfer and axial mixing coefficients were obtained from the optimization of data by ADM. It was found that at the pulsation intensity from 0.003 to 0.007 m/s, the maximum mass transfer and minimum axial mixing occurred and it can be concluded that pulsation improves the efficiency of mass transfer just at low intensities. 相似文献

Given a fault‐tolerance strategy and a distributed control system, the set of recoverable faults depends on the information pattern that is implemented. This paper shows that fault‐tolerance can be achieved, when possible, by the reconfiguration of the information pattern. A necessary and sufficient recoverability condition is provided, and sub‐optimal solutions are developed for actuator and sensor faults under system reconfiguration.
