This educational paper describes the implementation aspects, user interface design considerations and workflow potential of the recently published TopOpt 3D App. The app solves the standard minimum compliance problem in 3D and allows the user to change design settings interactively at any point in time during the optimization. Apart from its educational nature, the app may point towards future ways of performing industrial design. Instead of the usual geometrize, then model and optimize approach, the geometry now automatically adapts to the varying boundary and loading conditions. The app is freely available for iOS at Apple’s App Store and at http://www.topopt.dtu.dk/TopOpt3D for Windows and OSX.  相似文献

This study describes the Danish publication award system (BFI), investigates whether its built-in incentives have had an effect on publication behavior at the University of Southern Denmark, and discusses the possible future implications on researcher incentives should universities wish to measure BFI on the individual level. We analyzed publication data from the university CRIS system (Pure) and from SciVal. Several studies indicate that co-authored scholarly journal articles attract more citations than single author articles. The reason for this are not clear, however, research collaboration across institutions and countries is commonly accepted in the research community and among university managements as one way of increasing the researcher’s and institution’s reputation and impact. The BFI system is designed to award scholarly publication activity at Danish universities, especially publication in international journals of high status. However, we find that the built-in incentives leave the researcher and his or her institution with a dilemma: If the researchers optimize their performance by forming author groups with external collaborators, the optimal way of doing so for the researchers is not the optimal way seen from the perspective of the university. Our analysis shows that the typical article has 6.5 authors, two of which are internal, and that this has remained stable since the introduction of the BFI. However, there is variation across the disciplines. While ‘the Arts and Humanities’ and ‘the Social Sciences’ seem to compose author groups in a way which does not optimize the performance of the institution, both ‘Health’ and ‘the Natural Sciences’ seem to optimize according to criteria other than those specified in the BFI.  相似文献

This paper suggests a high-level continuous image model for planar star-shaped objects. Under this model, a planar object is a stochastic deformation of a star-shaped template. The residual process, describing the difference between the radius-vector function of the template and the object, is allowed to be non-stationary. Stationarity is obtained by a time change. A parametric model for the residual process is suggested and straightforward parameter estimation techniques are developed. The deformable template model makes it possible to detect pathologies as demonstrated by an analysis of a data set of cell nuclei from a benign and a malignant tumour, using stochastic deformations of ellipses.  相似文献

Integrated methodology for forensic oil spill identification   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
A new integrated methodology for forensic oil spill identification is presented. It consists of GC-MS analysis, chromatographic data processing, variable-outlier detection, multivariate data analysis, estimation of uncertainties, and statistical evaluation. The methodology was tested on four groups of diagnostic ratios composed of petroleum biomarkers and ratios within homologous PAH categories. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed and enabled the simultaneous analysis of many diagnostic ratios. Weathering was taken into account by considering the sampling uncertainties estimated from replicate spill samples. Statistical evaluation ensured an objective matching of oil spill samples with suspected source oils as well as classification into positive match, probable match, and nonmatch. The data analysis is further refined if two or more source oils are classified as probable match by using weighted least squares fitting of the principal components, local PCA models, and additional information relevant to the spill case. The methodology correctly identified the source of two spill samples (i.e., crude oils from Oseberg East and Oseberg Field Centre) and distinguished them from closely related source oils.  相似文献

Biomarkers have become increasingly important for identifying the source of spilled oil, due to their specificity and high resistance to biodegradation. The biomarkers most commonly used in forensic investigations are the high molecular weight (MW) tri- and pentacyclic terpanes and steranes. For lighter petroleum products such as jet fuels and diesels, the refining processes remove most high MW biomarkers from the original crude oil feedstock. The smaller bicyclic sesquiterpanes, however, are concentrated in these products. Sesquiterpanes are ubiquitous components of crude oils and ancient sediments. Examination of GC-MS chromatograms of these bicyclic biomarkers using their characteristic fragment ions (m/z 123, 179, 193, and 207) provides a highly diagnostic means for identifying spilled oil, particularly for lighter refined product samples that are difficult to identify by current techniques. In this work, sesquiterpanes in crude oils and petroleum products are identified and characterized, distributions of sesquiterpanes in oils and refined products are compared, the effects of evaporative weathering on sesquiterpane distributions are examined, and a methodology using diagnostic indices of sesquiterpanes is developed for oil correlation and differentiation. Finally, two case studies are presented to illustrate the unique utility of sesquiterpanes for fingerprinting and identifying unknown diesel spills.  相似文献

We have studied the importance of the specific DNA sequence of the deo operator site for DeoR repressor binding by introducing symmetrical, single basepair substitutions at all positions in the deo operator and tested the ability of these variants to titrate DeoR in vivo. Our results show that a 16 bp palindromic sequence constitutes the deo operator. Positions outside this palindrome (positions +/- 9, +/- 10) can be changed without any major effect on DeoR binding. Most of the central 6-8 bp of the palindrome (positions +/- 1, +/- 2, +/- 3) can be substituted with other nucleotides with no or only minor effects on DeoR binding, while changes at position +/- 4 and +/- 5 give a more heterogeneous response. Finally, changes at positions +/- 6, +/- 7 and +/- 8 severely disrupt DeoR binding.  相似文献

We exploit the localized surface-plasmon resonance (LSPR) of terahertz gold gammadion structures for wafer scale critical dimension metrology of nanostructures. The proposed characterization method, LSPR spectroscopy, is based on optical transmission measurements and is benchmarked against numerical simulations of imprinted structures characterized by atomic force microscopy. There is a fair agreement between the two methods and the simulations enable the translation of optical spectra to critical dimensions of the physical structures, a concept known from scatterometry. The results demonstrate the potential of LSPR spectroscopy as an alternative characterization method to scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and scatterometry.  相似文献

Opt. 46, 3263-3268 (2007)] reported a theoretical and numerical study of highly dispersive pure silica photonic crystal fiber supporting group-velocity dispersion exceeding -2x10(4) ps/nm/km.
