We study the problem of one-dimensional partitioning of nonuniform workload arrays, with optimal load balancing for heterogeneous systems. We look at two cases: chain-on-chain partitioning, where the order of the processors is specified, and chain partitioning, where processor permutation is allowed. We present polynomial time algorithms to solve the chain-on-chain partitioning problem optimally, while we prove that the chain partitioning problem is NP-complete. Our empirical studies show that our proposed exact algorithms produce substantially better results than heuristics, while solution times remain comparable.  相似文献

Hypergraph Models and Algorithms for Data-Pattern-Based Clustering   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In traditional approaches for clustering market basket type data, relations among transactions are modeled according to the items occurring in these transactions. However, an individual item might induce different relations in different contexts. Since such contexts might be captured by interesting patterns in the overall data, we represent each transaction as a set of patterns through modifying the conventional pattern semantics. By clustering the patterns in the dataset, we infer a clustering of the transactions represented this way. For this, we propose a novel hypergraph model to represent the relations among the patterns. Instead of a local measure that depends only on common items among patterns, we propose a global measure that is based on the cooccurences of these patterns in the overall data. The success of existing hypergraph partitioning based algorithms in other domains depends on sparsity of the hypergraph and explicit objective metrics. For this, we propose a two-phase clustering approach for the above hypergraph, which is expected to be dense. In the first phase, the vertices of the hypergraph are merged in a multilevel algorithm to obtain large number of high quality clusters. Here, we propose new quality metrics for merging decisions in hypergraph clustering specifically for this domain. In order to enable the use of existing metrics in the second phase, we introduce a vertex-to-cluster affinity concept to devise a method for constructing a sparse hypergraph based on the obtained clustering. The experiments we have performed show the effectiveness of the proposed framework.  相似文献

In wireless sensor network applications where data gathered by different sensor nodes is correlated, not all sensor nodes need to be active for the wireless sensor network to be functional. Given that the sensor nodes that are selected as active form a connected wireless network, the inactive sensor nodes can be turned off. Allowing some sensor nodes to be active and some sensor nodes inactive interchangably during the lifecycle of the application helps the wireless sensor network to have a longer lifetime. The problem of determining a set of active sensor nodes in a correlated data environment for a fully operational wireless sensor network can be formulated as an instance of the connected correlation-dominating set problem. In this work, our contribution is twofold; we propose an effective and runtime-efficient iterative improvement heuristic to solve the active sensor node determination problem, and a benefit function that aims to minimize the number of active sensor nodes while maximizing the residual energy levels of the selected active sensor nodes. Extensive simulations we performed show that the proposed approach achieves a good performance in terms of both network lifetime and runtime efficiency.  相似文献

In this work, we show that the standard graph-partitioning-based decomposition of sparse matrices does not reflect the actual communication volume requirement for parallel matrix-vector multiplication. We propose two computational hypergraph models which avoid this crucial deficiency of the graph model. The proposed models reduce the decomposition problem to the well-known hypergraph partitioning problem. The recently proposed successful multilevel framework is exploited to develop a multilevel hypergraph partitioning tool PaToH for the experimental verification of our proposed hypergraph models. Experimental results on a wide range of realistic sparse test matrices confirm the validity of the proposed hypergraph models. In the decomposition of the test matrices, the hypergraph models using PaToH and hMeTiS result in up to 63 percent less communication volume (30 to 38 percent less on the average) than the graph model using MeTiS, while PaToH is only 1.3-2.3 times slower than MeTiS on the average  相似文献

Homogeneous and uniform coatings of polyaniline were successfully deposited on carbon fibers by an aqueous electrodeposition technique using p-toluene sulfonic acid as the electrolyte. Electrochemical deposition of aniline was carried out by cyclic voltammetry in the potential range of ?0.2 V to 1.0 V versus saturated calomel electrode (SCE). The electrochemical deposition parameters such as the number of cycles, scan rate (SR), initial monomer ([M]), and electrolyte concentration ([E]) were systematically varied. The amount of composite coatings on carbon fibers was dependent on the electrochemical deposition parameters. From a weight gain analysis, the rate of the reactions (R p ) was calculated. As the aniline concentration was increased up to 0.35 M and electrolyte concentration up to 0.5 M, the deposition rate also increased, whereas an increase in scan rate decreased the deposition rate. Kinetic analysis showed that the rate equation for the p-toluene sulfonic acid system is R p ∝SR ?1.25 [M] 0.73 [E] 0.95 . IR spectra also showed an increase in the deposition of polyaniline coatings on carbon fibers with a decrease in the scan rate and an increase in both monomer and electrolyte concentration. The ratio of two oxidation states of polyaniline obtained during electrodeposition, namely emeraldine and pernigraniline, can be varied by changing the electrochemical deposition parameters.  相似文献

This paper describes a system for modeling, animating, previewing and rendering articulated objects. The system has a modeler of objects that consists of joints and segments. The animator interactively positions the articulated object in its stick, control vertex, or rectangular prism representation and previews the motion in real time. Then the data representing the motion and the models is sent to a multicomputer [iPSC/2 Hypercube (Intel)]. The frames are rendered in parallel, exploiting the coherence between successive frames, thus cutting down the rendering time significantly. Our main aim is to make a detailed study on rendering of a sequence of 3D scenes. The results show that due to an inherent correlation between the 3D scenes, an efficient rendering can be achieved.  相似文献

Although fast Hartley transform (FHT) provides efficient spectral analysis of real discrete signals, the literature that addresses the parallelization of FHT is extremely rare. FHT is a real transformation and does not necessitate any complex arithmetics. On the other hand, FHT algorithm has an irregular computational structure which makes efficient parallelization harder. In this paper, we propose an efficient restructuring for the sequential FHT algorithm which brings regularity and symmetry to the computational structure of the FHT. Then, we propose an efficient parallel FHT algorithm for medium-to-coarse grain hypercube multicomputers by introducing a dynamic mapping scheme for the restructured FHT. The proposed parallel algorithm achieves perfect load-balance, minimizes both the number and volume of concurrent communications, allows only nearest-neighbor communications and achieves in-place computation and communication. The proposed algorithm is implemented on a 32 node iPSC/2 hypercube multicomputer, high-efficiency values are obtained even for small size FHT problems  相似文献

The need to have efficient storage schemes for spatial networks is apparent when the volume of query processing in some road networks (e.g., the navigation systems) is considered. Specifically, under the assumption that the road network is stored in a central server, the adjacent data elements in the network must be clustered on the disk in such a way that the number of disk page accesses is kept minimal during the processing of network queries. In this work, we introduce the link-based storage scheme for clustered road networks and compare it with the previously proposed junction-based storage scheme. In order to investigate the performance of aggregate network queries in clustered road networks, we extend our recently proposed clustering hypergraph model from junction-based storage to link-based storage. We propose techniques for additional storage savings in bidirectional networks that make the link-based storage scheme even more preferable in terms of the storage efficiency. We evaluate the performance of our link-based storage scheme against the junction-based storage scheme both theoretically and empirically. The results of the experiments conducted on a wide range of road network datasets show that the link-based storage scheme is preferable in terms of both storage and query processing efficiency.  相似文献

We present the PaToH MATLAB Matrix Partitioning Interface. The interface provides support for hypergraph-based sparse matrix partitioning methods which are used for efficient parallelization of sparse matrix–vector multiplication operations. The interface also offers tools for visualizing and measuring the quality of a given matrix partition. We propose a novel, multilevel, 2D coarsening-based 2D matrix partitioning method and implement it using the interface. We have performed extensive comparison of the proposed method against our implementation of orthogonal recursive bisection and fine-grain methods on a large set of publicly available test matrices. The conclusion of the experiments is that the new method can compete with the fine-grain method while also suggesting new research directions.  相似文献
