Rates of free convection mass transfer inside cylindrical cavities were studied by measuring the limiting current for the cathodic deposition of copper from acidified copper sulphate solution using a cylindrical anode placed inside the cavity. Variables studied were cavity orientation (vertical with upward facing opening, vertical with downward facing opening and horizontal), physical properties of the solution and cavity dimensions (diameter and depth). In this work we investigate a new graph coloring constructive hyper-heuristic for solving examination timetabling problems. We utilize the hierarchical hybridizations of four low level graph coloring heuristics, these being largest degree, saturation degree, largest colored degree and largest enrollment. These are hybridized to produce four ordered lists. For each list, the difficulty index of scheduling the first exam is calculated by considering its order in all lists to obtain a combined evaluation of its difficulty. The most difficult exam to be scheduled is scheduled first (i.e. the one with the minimum difficulty index). To improve the effectiveness of timeslot selection, a?roulette wheel selection mechanism is included in the algorithm to probabilistically select an appropriate timeslot for the chosen exam. We test our proposed approach on the most widely used un-capacitated Carter benchmarks and also on the recently introduced examination timetable dataset from the 2007 International Timetabling Competition. Compared against other methodologies, our results demonstrate that the graph coloring constructive hyper-heuristic produces good results and outperforms other approaches on some of the benchmark instances.  相似文献

Resistance spot welding process (RSW) is one of important manufacturing processes in automotive industry for assembling bodies. Quality and strength of the welds and therefore body mainly are defined by quality of the weld nuggets. The most effective parameters in this process are: current intensity, welding time, sheet thickness and material, geometry of electrodes, electrode force, and current shunting. In present research, a mechanical–electrical–thermal coupled model in a finite element analysis environment is made using. Via simulating this process, the phenomenon of nugget formation and the effects of process parameters on this phenomenon are studied. Moreover, the effects of welding parameters on temperature of faying surface are studied. Using this analysis, shape and size of weld nuggets are computed and validated by comparing them with experimental results from published articles. The methodology developed in this paper provides prediction of quality and shape of the weld nuggets with variation of each process parameter. Utilizing this methodology assists in adjusting welding parameters so that costly experimental works can be avoided. In addition, the process can be economically optimized to manufacture quality automotive bodies.  相似文献

Shape representation plays a vital role in any shape optimization exercise. The ability to identify a shape with good functional properties is dependent on the underlying shape representation scheme, the morphing mechanism and the efficiency of the optimization algorithm. This article presents a novel and efficient methodology for morphing 3D shapes via smart repair of control points. The repaired sequence of control points are subsequently used to define the 3D object using a B-spline surface representation. The control points are evolved within the framework of a memetic algorithm for greater efficiency. While the authors have already proposed an approach for 2D shape matching, this article extends it further to deal with 3D shape matching problems. Three 3D examples and a real customized 3D earplug design have been used as examples to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach and the effectiveness of the repair scheme. Population based algorithms are generally better at exploring a search space than local search algorithms (i.e. searches based on a single heuristic). However, the limitation of many population based algorithms is in exploiting the search space. We propose a population based Local Search (PB-LS) heuristic that is embedded within a local search algorithm (as a mechanism to exploit the search space). PB-LS employs two operators. The first is applied to a single solution to determine the force between the incumbent solution and the trial current solution (i.e. a single direction force), whilst the second operator is applied to all solutions to determine the force in all directions. The progress of the search is governed by these forces, either in a single direction or in all directions. Our proposed algorithm is able to both diversify and intensify the search more effectively, when compared to other local search and population based algorithms. We use university course timetabling (Socha benchmark datasets) as a test domain. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of PB-LS, we perform a comparison between the performances of PB-LS with other approaches drawn from the scientific literature. Results demonstrate that PB-LS is able to produce statistically significantly higher quality solutions, outperforming many other approaches on the Socha dataset.  相似文献

The unavailability of proper hydrological data quality combined with the complexity of most physical based hydrologic models limits research on rainfall-runoff relationships, particularly in the tropics. In this paper, an attempt has been made to use different resolutions of DEM generated from freely available 30 m-based ASTER imagery as primary input to the topographically-based hydrological (TOPMODEL) model to simulate the runoff of a medium catchment located in the tropics. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to optimize the most sensitive parameters for streamflow simulation. DEM resolutions from 30 to 300 m have been used to assess their effects on the topographic index distribution (TI) and TOPMODEL simulation. It is found that changing DEM resolutions reduces the TOPMODEL simulation performance as the resolutions are varied from 30 to 300 m. The study concluded that the ASTER 30 m DEM can be used for reasonable streamflow simulation of a data scarce tropical catchment compared with the resampled DEMs.  相似文献

This paper analyses the technical and economic feasibility of using a hybrid renewable energy source for a typical telecom load in the state of Qatar. The hybrid system considered in this work consists of a solar photovoltaic with storage battery and diesel generator set. For this particular hybrid system, the meteorological data of solar irradiance in Doha city (latitude 25.15 ° North and longitude 51.33 ° East) are taken from NASA surface meteorology and solar energy websites. The solar irradiance in Doha is 5.33?kWh/m2/day on an annual average scale. The data are also taken through the study of load consumption of Qatar telecommunication hybrid power system. The system is designed and its techno-economic analysis is carried out using the Hybrid Optimization Model for Electrical Renewable software. The results show both technical and economic viability of replacing the conventional DG sets with the proposed renewable energy source.  相似文献
