The degradation of corrosion preventative coatings contributes to the high cost and time requirements for maintaining structures in harsh environments. However, the development of new hydrophobic coatings holds the promise of extending the usable life of structures in marine environments. In this work, we quantify the barrier properties and corrosion resistance of two novel highly hydrophobic polysiloxane formulations and the legacy silicone alkyd topcoat used on the topside of Navy’s ships, all with haze gray pigmentation. Based on FTIR-ATR and EIS measurements of the pristine coatings, both the single- (1K) and the two-component (2K) polysiloxane provide significantly improved barrier characteristics (lower water diffusion coefficient and capacitance) than the silicone alkyd. These results were confirmed through a 3-month-long immersion corrosion test, which also showed that the 1K and 2K polysiloxane coatings had comparable degradation characteristic and remained highly hydrophobic.  相似文献

We demonstrate an increase in trapping lifetime for optically trapped nanoparticles by more than an order of magnitude using feedback control, with no corresponding increase in beam power. Langevin dynamics simulations were used to design the control law, and this technique was then demonstrated experimentally using 100 nm gold particles and 350 nm silica particles. No particle escapes were detected with the controller on, leading to lower limits on the increase in lifetime for 100 nm gold particles of 26 times (at constant average beam power) and 22 times for 350 nm silica particles (with average beam power reduced by one-third). The approach described here can be combined with other techniques, such as counter propagating beams or higher-order optical modes, to trap the smallest nanoparticles and can be used to reduce optical heating of particles that are susceptible to photodamage, such as biological systems.  相似文献

Traditional markets play a key role in local supply chains in many countries, often influencing retailer decisions due to their inherent attractiveness. In contrast to restocking choices for retailers as part of large chains, choices of independent retailers driven by local traditional markets have not been widely researched and are not well understood. This paper analyses the factors influencing independent retailer restocking choices and investigates the interplay between the presence of traditional markets and retailer choices. Bandung city in Indonesia is chosen for the study where independent retailers are prevalent, and where a number of traditional markets are thriving. A retrospective questionnaire was used to capture independent retailer restocking behaviour and generation models were calibrated to arrive at the trip propensity. Discrete choice models were estimated to explain the retailer preferences for supplier location and transport service choice. Results indicate that trips generated by independent retailers are explained by the presence of traditional markets and retailers’ vehicle ownership, in addition to the standard variables such as number of persons employed, weekly goods demand and average shipment weight. As for restocking location choice, retailers are more likely to choose suppliers within a traditional market where the number of wholesaler units is larger. Furthermore, the choice of traditional markets has a positive influence on whether retailers choose to use their own vehicle to restock their shops.

Blueberries, a functional food, are rich in bioactive polyphenols and anthocyanins. However, the shelf life is short and requires cold storage. This study provides evidence that edible foxtail millet flour (FMF) efficiently sorbs only blueberry bioactive components (polyphenols and anthocyanins) but not sugars, improves their stability and retains the activity. The concentration of blueberry polyphenols and anthocyanins sorbed to FMF ranged from 6 to 113 and 4 to 41 mg g?1, respectively. The concentration of bioactive components in one serving of blueberries (73 g) is equivalent to those present in 1.2 g of blueberry‐enriched foxtail millet flour (BFMF). The blueberry bioactive sorbed onto FMF remained stable for at least 16 weeks at 40 °C. BFMF eluates inhibited α‐glucosidase enzyme activity and scavenged the free radicals conferring that blueberry bioactive components in BFMF retained the activity. The sorption process described here provides a practical way of creating low glycemic protein‐rich edible flour enriched with plant bioactive compounds without sugars.  相似文献

A noniterative physics-based compact model is developed for carbon nanotube (CNT) transistor and interconnect in order to support early stage design exploration. Based on the derivation of surface potential, the new model accurately predicts both I-V and C-V characteristics. It is scalable to key process and design parameters, such as the diameter, chirality, contact materials, gate dielectrics, and bias voltages. Without any iteration in model computation, the proposed model significantly enhances the simulation efficiency for large-scale design research. By benchmarking circuit performance, the optimal space of the CNT process is further localized. It is observed that for a Schottky-barrier CNT transistor with the diameter range of 1-1.5 nm, the circuit can be more than 8× faster than that of 22-nm CMOS, with the tolerance to the variation in contact materials.  相似文献

Abstract

Renewable energy sources are the best alternative for giving solution to the energy shortage and CO2 emission problems. Solar updraft tower is a relative novel technology for electricity production from solar energy. It consists of three main components; a solar air collector with absorber plate, central chimney, and a turbine. The objective of this work is to present complete design parameters of individual components of a small and less expensive prototype solar updraft tower. The main contents of this study are; solar radiation calculations, chimney design, solar wind turbine design calculations, heat loss and pressure loss estimations for collector. The pilot solar chimney power plant considered in this work consists of an air collector diameter of 3.5-m, the chimney diameter and height are 0.6 and 6?m, respectively. Theoretically the maximum velocity of air is achieved at chimney base is 1.9?m/s. The overall efficiency of the plant is estimated as 0.0019%.  相似文献
