In 2 studies, the relation between measures of self-assessed health (SAH) and automatic processing of health-relevant information was investigated. In Study 1, 84 male and 86 female undergraduate students completed a modified Stroop task. Results indicated that participants with poorer SAH showed enhanced interference effects for illness versus non-illness words. In Study 2, 27 male and 30 female undergraduate students completed a self-referent encoding task. Results offered a conceptual replication and extension of Study 1 by confirming the specificity of the relation between SAH measures and automatic processing of health (vs negative or positive general trait) information. These studies provide evidence that individual differences in SAH are reflected in schematic processing of health-relevant information. Object recognition is a well studied but extremely challenging field. We present a novel approach to feature construction for object detection called Evolution-COnstructed Features (ECO features). Most current approaches rely on human experts to construct features for object recognition. ECO features are automatically constructed by uniquely employing a standard genetic algorithm to discover multiple series of transforms that are highly discriminative. Using ECO features provides several advantages over other object detection algorithms including: no need for a human expert to build feature sets or tune their parameters, ability to generate specialized feature sets for different objects, no limitations to certain types of image sources, and ability to find both global and local feature types. We show in our experiments that the ECO features compete well against state-of-the-art object recognition algorithms.  相似文献

Hemizygous deletion in the short (p) arm of chromosome 3 is a common finding in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and is postulated to be a crucial early change in lung tumorigenesis. Yet one of the most frequent nuclear abnormalities in both NSCLC and premalignant bronchial epithelium is increase in chromosomal copy number. Deletion and duplication have not been assessed in the same tumor set by both molecular and cytogenetic methods to determine whether allelic loss correlates with chromosomal duplication in the same tumor cell populations. It is also not established what biological mechanisms might lead to allelic deletion and chromosomal duplication. We have investigated changes in the copy number of chromosome 3 in touch preparations of 38 NSCLCs (19 adenocarcinomas and 19 squamous cell carcinomas) using dual-target, dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assays. Chromosome 3 centromere probe was matched with a 3p14.2 probe [intron 4 of the fragile histidine triad (FHIT) gene] and a 3p21.31 probe (HSemaIV gene). We then correlated FISH results with results of molecular analyses for allelic losses at loci in the regions to which the FISH probes mapped in 20 of these cases. Although various combinations of FISH abnormalities were sometimes detected within the same specimens, individual cases could be classified according to the predominant FISH pattern, usually with one abnormality present in >60% of tumor cells. Chromosomal duplication, indicated by the presence of more than two centromeric signals, was the most frequent abnormality observed by FISH and was accompanied by loss of specific sequences on 3p in approximately one-half of the specimens in which it was observed. The most frequent abnormality observed by molecular analysis was loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in both of the chromosomal regions tested and was demonstrated in 83% of cases with chromosomal duplication. We conclude that LOH may occur in the presence of chromosomal duplication, suggesting that the duplicated chromosome is homozygous. Our findings imply that LOH occurs before chromosomal duplication during lung carcinogenesis.  相似文献

The solubility in lime water of calcium hydrocarboaluminate and carbonate is studied to account for the formation of calcium hydrocarbonate from calcareous aggregates in aluminous and Portland cements. We present a thermodynamic study of the solubility curves of these compounds, calculated as the projections of tridimensional equilibrium curves vs. P(CO2). We show that simultaneously the projections of the alumina gel and calcium hydrated aluminates solubility curves undergo shifts that we determine vs. P(CO2) and possibly vs. Naaq+ ions concentration.  相似文献

For development of the French Laser Integration Line and the Laser Megajoule, we describe the design and the control of a first 383 mm x 398 mm continuous phase-plate prototype. Extensively used in laser fusion facilities for beam smoothing, this optical component was manufactured by deep etching onto a fused-silica substrate, which led to a phase plate engraved directly onto fused silica, with which good optical performance could be achieved. We demonstrate good agreement between the desired simulated component and the manufactured component in terms of focal spot shape. This demonstration was performed by both interferometric and photometric measurements.  相似文献

Objectives: To evaluate the effects of an appearance-focused intervention to reduce the risk of skin cancer by decreasing indoor tanning, examine potential heterogeneity in tanning across this time, and correlate the subtypes with predictors collected at baseline. Design: Randomized controlled trial with 379 female college students measured at 6 monthly time points. Main Outcome Measure: Self-reported indoor tanning frequency. Results: The intervention was effective at decreasing tanning over the period between the fall and spring. Longitudinal latent class analysis found 3 patterns of tanners among the treatment individuals: abstainers, moderate tanners, and heavy tanners. These classes appeared in both the treatment and control conditions, and the intervention had a harm reduction effect by reducing levels of exposure within the moderate and heavy tanner classes. Participant age and self-reported tanning patterns were found to be predictive of class membership. Conclusions: This research suggests that brief intervention approaches can be effective at reducing risk for skin cancer and illustrates several ways in which these protective effects can be enhanced. Two experiments are reported whose aim was to replicate and generalize the results presented by J. G. Snodgrass and B. McCullough (1986) on the effect of visual similarity in the categorization process. For pictures, Snodgrass and McCullough's results were replicated because Ss took longer to discriminate elements from 2 categories when they were visually similar than when they were visually dissimilar. However, unlike Snodgrass and McCullough, an analogous increase was also observed for word stimuli. The pattern of results obtained here can be explained most parsimoniously with reference to the effect of semantic similarity, or semantic and visual relatedness, rather than to visual similarity alone. We describe the descending projections from the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus (CNIC) in guinea pig. Focal injections of the tracer biocytin, made in physiologically defined frequency regions of the CNIC, labelled laminated axonal terminal fields in the ipsilateral dorsal nucleus of the lateral lemniscus, and bilaterally in the ventral nucleus of the trapezoid body and the dorsal cochlear nucleus. Labelling was also present in the rostral periolivary nucleus, but we could not distinguish a clear border between the terminal fields in this nucleus and those in the ventral nucleus of the trapezoid body. Labelling observed in the ventral nucleus of the lateral lemniscus, and to a lesser extent in the dorsal nucleus of the lateral lemniscus, was accompanied by retrogradely labelled somata and therefore we cannot conclude unequivocally that the CNIC projects to these lemniscal nuclei. Where the labelling was ordered topographically, its position varied as a function of the best frequency at the injection site. High-frequency regions in the CNIC project to the medial parts of the ventral nucleus of the trapezoid body and dorsal cochlear nucleus, while low-frequency regions in the CNIC project to the lateral parts of the ventral nucleus of the trapezoid body and dorsal cochlear nucleus. Additional axonal labelling with terminal boutons, but with no apparent topographical arrangement, was present in the ipsilateral horizontal cell group, sagulum, and also bilaterally in the superficial granule cell layer of the ventral cochlear nucleus and layer 2 of the dorsal cochlear nucleus. Our findings are consistent with the existence of tonotopically organised feedback projections from the CNIC to the brainstem nuclei that project to it.  相似文献
