The thermal expansion and magnetic behaviors of divalent, alkaline‐doped lanthanum ferrites (La0.9M0.1FeO3, M=Ca, Sr, Ba) were assessed using a combination of dilatometry, magnetometry, time‐of‐flight neutron diffraction, and high‐temperature X‐ray diffraction. Néel temperatures were determined through vibrating sample magnetometry and correlated well with changes in thermal expansion behavior observed during both dilatometry and X‐ray diffraction. The Néel temperatures observed for pure, Ca‐doped, Sr‐doped, and Ba‐doped lanthanum ferrites were 471°C, 351°C, 465°C, and 466°C, respectively. The effect of divalent substitutions on the magnetic behavior are attributed to charge compensation mechanisms and structural changes in the material.  相似文献

It has previously been demonstrated that sulfatide (3'-sulfogalactosyl-ceramide), present at the surface of epithelial cells of the small intestine of pigs, interacts with the thermostable enterotoxin b (STb) produced by ETEC, and that this molecule is implicated in the mechanism of action of the toxin. However, few things are known about the affinity and physical characteristics of the interaction between these two macromolecules. In this study, using a microtiter plate binding assay (MPBA), we showed that STb toxin has a strong specificity for sulfatide and that this binding is dose-dependent and saturable. A very weak binding occurred with galactosyl-ceramide whereas attachment to 3'-sulfolactosyl-ceramide corresponded to 76% of the binding to sulfatide. STb toxin was shown to possess a lectin-like property; a significative binding was observed when a terminal beta-galactose was present in the glycosphingolipids tested and an increased binding was observed in presence of a sulfate group in position 3 on the galactose. These findings suggest that a sulfated galactosyl residue seems to represent the epitope recognized by the toxin. The reaction between sulfatide and STb toxin is also time and temperature dependent and is not affected by pH. The interaction was not inhibited by free sugars, sulfated polymers, glycolipids or free ions, but was partly inhibited by high concentrations of charged sugars. STb-sulfatide binding process is a low affinity interaction, as demonstrated by the determined Kd of 2-6 +/- 1.5 microM.  相似文献

It may be advantageous in advanced gravitational-wave detectors to replace conventional beam splitters and Fabry-Perot input mirrors with diffractive elements. In each of these applications, the wavefront distortions produced by the absorption and subsequent heating of the grating can limit the maximum useful optical power. We present data on the wavefront distortions induced in a laser probe beam for both the reflected and diffracted beams from a grating that is heated by a Gaussian laser beam and compare these results to a simple theory of the wavefront distortions induced by thermoelastic deformations.  相似文献

Quantum generalizations of conventional games broaden the range of available strategies, which can help improve outcomes for the participants. With many players, such quantum games can involve entanglement among many states which is difficult to implement, especially if the states must be communicated over some distance. This paper describes a quantum approach to the economically significant n-player public goods game that requires only two-particle entanglement and is thus much easier to implement than more general quantum mechanisms. In spite of the large temptation to free ride on the efforts of others in the original game, two-particle entanglement is sufficient to give near optimal expected payoff when players use a simple mixed strategy for which no player can benefit by making different choices. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes were submitted to three activation procedures: nitric acid oxidation, ball-milling and air oxidation. The influence of these treatments on nanotubes surface chemistry and morphology was evaluated by XPS, Raman and infrared spectroscopy, TGA, TPD, nitrogen adsorption and TEM. The three activated materials were used to prepare Pt supported catalysts from the organometallic precursor [Pt(CH3)2(COD)]. The influence of the activation treatments, together with that of a post-reduction thermal treatment, on the performances of the catalytic systems in the selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde was investigated. It was shown that the best compromise between catalyst activity and selectivity requires a low amount of oxygenated groups on the support surface of the final catalyst, typically less than 700 μmol/g CO + CO2 evolved during TPD experiments, together with an optimized platinum particle size ranging between 10 and 20 nm.  相似文献

In this paper, we evaluate the viability of a 9.5‐kWe wooden pellet‐fueled Stirling engine‐based micro‐cogeneration plant as a substitute for small‐scale district heating. The district heating systems against which the micro‐cogeneration plant is compared are based either on a pellet‐fueled boiler or a ground‐source heat pump. The micro‐cogeneration and district heating plants are compared in terms of primary energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and feasibility of the investment. The comparison also considers an optimally operated individual 0.7‐kWe pellet‐fueled Stirling engine micro‐cogeneration system with exhaust gas heat recovery. The study is conducted in two different climates and contributes to the knowledge base by addressing: (i) hourly changes in the Finnish electricity generation mix; and (ii) uncertainty related to what systems are used as reference and the treatment of displaced grid electricity. Our computational results suggest that when operated at constant power, the 9.5‐kWe Stirling engine plant results in reduced annual primary energy use compared with any of the alternative systems. The results are not sensitive to climate or the energy efficiency or number of buildings. In comparison with the pellet‐fueled district heating plant, the annual use of primary energy and CO2 emissions are reduced by a minimum of 25 and 19%, respectively. Owing to a significant displacement of grid electricity, the system's net primary energy consumption appears negative when the total built area served by the plant is less than 1200 m2. On the economic side, the maximum investment cost threshold of a CHP‐based district heating system serving 10 houses or more can typically be positive when compared with oil and pellet systems, but negative when compared with a corresponding heat pump system. A report is presented on a general theory describing the effect of external optical feedback on the steady-state noise characteristics of single-mode semiconductor lasers. The theory is valid for arbitrarily strong feedback and arbitrary optical feedback configuration and spectrum. A generalized Langevin rate equation is derived. The equation is, in general, infinite order in d/dt constituting an infinite-order correction to the low-frequency weak-feedback analysis. The general formalism includes relaxation oscillations and permits analysis of the effect of feedback on the laser linewidth, frequency noise, relative intensity noise, and the relaxation oscillation sidebands in the field spectrum.
