Concentrations of estradiol-17 beta in follicular fluid were correlated to follicular size, stage of estrous cycle, location of corpus luteum, and presence of large follicles. Paired ovaries were obtained from 481 nonpregnant cows at slaughter and follicles were classified as ipsilateral or contralateral to the corpus luteum. Follicular fluid estradiol-17 beta concentrations from 2494 small, 1485 medium, and 396 large follicles were quantified by radioimmunoassay. Stage of estrous cycle was estimated by visual examination of the corpus luteum. Follicles in stage 1 of the estrous cycle (d 1 to 4) had the highest estradiol-17 beta concentration and the smallest mean follicular diameter. Location of follicles relative to the corpus luteum had no influence on estradiol-17 beta concentrations. As follicular size increased, concentration of estradiol-17 beta also increased. The presence of a single large follicle did not affect the concentration of estradiol-17 beta in medium or small follicles. In contrast, if multiple large follicles occurred in the same cow, concentrations of estradiol-17 beta were significantly lower in medium but not small follicles.  相似文献

Comparisons of two common bioaerosol samplers were made after sampling and enumeration of airborne fungal propagules in several office structures on a university campus in Southern California. Data collected on five occasions throughout the year showed that a Surface Air Systems (SAS) high flow portable sampler recovered consistently lower levels of colony forming units (cfu) than an Andersen N6 single stage impactor. There was no difference statistically between the samplers when concentrations of Cladosporium were compared. Compared to the Andersen N6, the SAS sampler recovered about half the number of cfu for three other fungal categories, i.e. non-sporulating species, Aspergillus and Penicillium and others. Differences in sampler efficiencies are discussed in terms of effective particle diameters. Counts of culturable airborne fungal spores obtained with the SAS sampler should be interpreted with caution when genera other than Cladosporium predominate.  相似文献

Granulosa cells from small or large bovine follicles were pretreated with enzymes that hydrolyze various glycosaminoglycans, and binding of [3H]-heparin to the granulosa was measured. Binding of [3H] heparin increased significantly after enzymatic pretreatments with chondroitinase ABC and fungal hyaluronidase, and similar results were obtained with granulosa from small and large follicles. No changes in binding of [3H] heparin were detected after hydrolyses with chondroitinase AC and heparinase in either follicle size. Heparitinase, which hydrolyzes heparan sulfate, led to a significant 50% increase in binding of [3H] heparin to granulosa from large follicles but was without effect in small follicles. These results suggest that the lower binding of [3H] heparin, which has been reported with follicular enlargement, may be due to heparan sulfate occupying or obstructing binding sites for heparin on granulosa from large follicles.  相似文献

In this study, the combined effects of hydrological and chemical stressors on benthic macroinvertebrates were evaluated in order to explore the response of the biological community to multiple stressors. The Adige River, located in the south‐eastern Alps, was selected as a case study because representative of the situation of a large river in which the variety of stressors present in the Alpine region act simultaneously. As expected, streamflow showed a seasonal pattern, with high flows in the spring–summer period; however, locally, the natural hydrological regime was altered by the presence of hydropower systems, which chiefly affected low flows. Multivariate analysis showed seasonal and spatial patterns in both chemical and hydrological parameters with a clear gradient in the concentration of nitrate, personal care, and pharmaceutical products moving from headwaters to the main stem of the river. The macroinvertebrate community composition was significantly different in summer and winter and between up and downstream sites. Streamflow alteration chiefly due to water use by hydropower affected community composition but not richness or diversity. Gammarus sp., Hirudinea, and Psychomyia sp., were positively correlated with flow variability, increasing their densities in the sites with higher streamflow variability because of hydropeaking. The results obtained in this study show that the composition of the macroinvertebrate community responded to seasonality and to changes in the main stressors along the river and highlights the importance of the spatial and temporal variability of stressors in this Alpine river. Taking into account, this variability will help the decision‐making process for improving basin management.  相似文献

Triple‐shape polymers can move from a first shape (A) to a second shape (B) and from there to a third shape (C), where both shape changes are induced by temperature increases. This triple‐shape capability is obtained for multiphase polymer networks after application of a complex thermomechanical programming process, which consists of two steps; these steps create shapes (B) and (A), while shape (C) is defined by the covalent crosslinks of the polymer network. Here, the creation of the triple‐shape capability for an AB polymer network system by a simple one‐step process similar to a conventional dual‐shape programming process is reported. The polymer networks are based on poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate); favorable compositions for obtaining a triple shape effect have a PCL content between 35 and 60 wt%. This finding substantially facilitates handling of the triple‐shape technology and is an important step toward the realization of potential applications in which more than one shape change is required.  相似文献

The follicular glycosaminoglycans, dermatan sulfate and heparan sulfate, are not available in sufficient quantities for detailed analytical studies or to use as reagents in cell cultures. The purpose of this study was to purify follicular glycosaminoglycans simultaneously from bovine follicular fluid. The use of a chloroform:methanol extraction of 10 ml of fluid resulted in recoveries of at least 90% of the glycosaminoglycans, otherwise an insoluble product resulted. Heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate eluted at .11 and .46 M NaCl, respectively, when subjected to HPLC with an anion exchange column. Fluid from small follicles allowed to "age" in the ovaries exhibited marked reductions in the concentrations of glycosaminoglycans. Aging of the fluid from large follicles resulted in greater glycosaminoglycan concentrations and appearance of glycosaminoglycans reflecting other charge distributions. Known amounts of purified follicular fluid heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate were applied to a gel filtration HPLC column, and corresponding integrated peak areas were plotted in relation to the glycosaminoglycan concentrations. Slopes of the lines for commercial chondroitin sulfate and follicular dermatan sulfate were not significantly different, but the slope of the line for follicular heparan sulfate was 13.5-fold greater than the slope for commercial heparin.  相似文献

A study of simultaneous acoustic and rheometric (dynamic mechanical) measurements of the epoxy curing process is undertaken to assess the validity of using acoustic cure-monitoring sensors for process control. Our results demonstrate that the acoustic technique provides a sensitive means for monitoring the cure of neat epoxy over the entire cure cycle. The acoustic modulus calculated from the shear velocity qualitatively tracks the mechanically measured dynamic modulus and correctly ranks the stiffness of two epoxy compositions. When the frequency difference is accounted for, using time-temperature superposition of the dynamic mechanical measurements, quantitative agreement between the acoustic and mechanical moduli for fully cured epoxy resins is also quite good.  相似文献
