This paper introduces a framework that tackles the costs in area and energy consumed by methodologies like spatial or temporal redundancy with a different approach: given an algorithm, we find a transformation in which part of the computation involved is transformed into memory accesses. The precomputed data stored in memory can be protected then by applying traditional and well established ECC algorithms to provide fault tolerant hardware designs. At the same time, the transformation increases the performance of the system by reducing its execution time, which is then used by customized software-based fault tolerant techniques to protect the system without any degradation when compared to its original form. Application of this technique to key algorithms in a MP3 player, combined with a fault injection campaign, show that this approach increases fault tolerance up to 92%, without any performance degradation.  相似文献

In this work the stress–strain curve of the recycled concretes was determined by replacing different percentages of the natural coarse aggregate with recycled coarse aggregate (20%, 50% and 100%). The results made it possible to establish the differences between the stress–strain relationship of a conventional concrete and this relationship for a recycled concrete depending on the percentage of replacement. In this way, it was found that the longitudinal strain of the recycled concretes increases with the percentage of recycled coarse aggregate used.Finally, using the experimental results, an analytical expression of the stress–strain curve accounting for the percentage of replacement was developed. The verification of the proposed model equation was done by comparing it to the experimental data. The results show that the proposed model equation satisfactorily describes the effect of the recycled aggregate on the stress–strain curve.  相似文献

The measurement of subtle morphologic beat-to-beat variability in the electrocardiogram (ECG)/vectorcardiogram (VCG) is complicated by the presence of noise which is caused by, e.g., respiration and muscular activity. A method was recently presented which reduces the influence of such noise by performing spatial and temporal alignment of VCG loops. The alignment is performed in terms of scaling, rotation and time synchronization of the loops. Using an ECG simulation model based on propagation of action potentials in cardiac tissue, the ability of the method to separate morphologic variability of physiological origin from respiratory activity was studied. Morphologic variability was created by introducing a random variation in action potential propagation between different compartments. The results indicate that the separation of these two activities can be done accurately at low to moderate noise levels (less than 10 microV). At high noise levels, the estimation of the rotation angles was found to break down in an abrupt manner. It was also shown that the breakdown noise level is strongly dependent on loop morphology; a planar loop corresponds to a lower breakdown noise level than does a nonplanar loop.  相似文献

Many yeast strains isolated from the wild show karyotype instability during vegetative growth, with rearrangement rates of up to 10(-2) chromosomal changes per generation. Physical isolation and analysis of several chromosome I size variants of one of these strains revealed that they differed only in their subtelomeric regions, leaving the central 150 Kb unaltered. Fine mapping of these subtelomeric variable regions revealed gross alterations of two very similar loci, FLO1 and FLO9. These loci are located on the right and left arms, respectively, of chromosome I and encompass internal repetitive DNA sequences. Furthermore, some chromosome I variants lacking the FLO1 locus showed evidence of recombination at a DNA region on their right arm that is enriched in repeated sequences, including Ty LTRs. We propose that repetitive sequences in many subtelomeric regions in S. cerevisiae play a key role in karyotype hypervariability. As these regions encode several membrane-associated proteins, subtelomeric plasticity may allow rapid adaptive changes of the yeast strain to specific substrates. This pattern of semi-conservative chromosomal rearrangement may have profound implications, both in terms of evolution of wild strains and for biotechnological processes.  相似文献

This paper describes the -BIST method, defined as an analog BIST circuit in the context of mixed signal systems. The test procedure is based on the reuse of existing analog circuits configured as sigma-delta modulators in the analog domain. The test procedure reuses most of existing blocks in a mixed signal system, and thus has small area overhead. Test sensitivity is very high, detecting small component deviations. Moreover, the proposed test technique can be applied to continuous or sampled time circuits, and the test procedure can be developed in the field. The paper explains the method and presents practical results to validate the proposed approach.  相似文献

The latest SRAM-based FPGA devices are making the development of low-cost, high-performance, re-configurable systems feasible, paving the way for innovative architectures suitable for mission- or safety-critical applications, such as those dominating the space or avionic fields. Unfortunately, SRAM-based FPGAs are extremely sensitive to Single Event Upsets (SEUs) induced by radiation. SEUs may alter the logic value stored in the memory elements the FPGAs embed. A large part of the FPGA memory elements is dedicated to the configuration memory, whose content dictates how the resources inside the FPGA have to be used to implement any given user circuit, SEUs affecting configuration memory cells can be extremely critics. Facing the effects of SEUs through radiation-hardened FPGAs is not cost-effective. Therefore, various fault-tolerant design techniques have been devised for developing dependable solutions, starting from Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) SRAM-based FPGAs. These techniques present advantages and disadvantages that must be evaluated carefully to exploit them successfully. In this paper we mainly adopted an empirical analysis approach. We evaluated the reliability of a multiplier, a digital FIR filter, and an 8051 microprocessor implemented in SRAM-based FPGA’s, by means of extensive fault-injection experiments, assessing the capability provided by different design techniques of tolerating SEUs within the FPGA configuration memory. Experimental results demonstrate that by combining architecture-level solutions (based on redundancy) with layout-level solutions (based on reliability-oriented place and route) designers may implement reliable re-configurable systems choosing the best solution that minimizes the penalty in terms of area and speed degradation.  相似文献

Graphics Processing Units are very prone to be corrupted by neutrons. Experimental results obtained irradiating the GPU with high energy neutrons show that the input data type has a strong influence on the neutron-induced error-rate of the executed algorithms. Moreover, when operations are performed using floating-point data, the probabilities to be corrupted are very different for the mantissa, the exponent or the sign. We investigate the occurrences of errors in the different positions, evaluating the related effects on the result precision. The reported results and the architecture analysis demonstrate that under radiation, whenever possible, one should favor floating-point arithmetic, which is both more reliable and potentially easier to protect than the integer one.  相似文献

Four ruminally and duodenally cannulated sheep and 8 Rusitec fermenters were used to determine the effects of forage to concentrate (F:C) ratio and type of forage in the diet on ruminal fermentation and microbial protein synthesis. The purpose of the study was to assess how closely fermenters can mimic the dietary differences found in vivo. The 4 experimental diets contained F:C ratios of 70:30 or 30:70 with either alfalfa hay or grass hay as the forage. Microbial growth was determined in both systems using 15N as a microbial marker. Rusitec fermenters detected differences between diets similar to those observed in sheep by changing F:C ratio on pH; neutral detergent fiber digestibility; total volatile fatty acid concentrations; molar proportions of acetate, propionate, butyrate, isovalerate, and caproate; and amylase activity. In contrast, Rusitec fermenters did not reproduce the dietary differences found in sheep for NH3-N and lactate concentrations, dry matter (DM) digestibility, proportions of isobutyrate and valerate, carboxymethylcellulase and xylanase activities, and microbial growth and its efficiency. Regarding the effect of the type of forage in the diet, Rusitec fermenters detected differences between diets similar to those found in sheep for most determined parameters, with the exception of pH, DM digestibility, butyrate proportion, and carboxymethylcellulase activity. Minimum pH and maximal volatile fatty acid concentrations were reached at 2 h and at 6 to 8 h postfeeding in sheep and fermenters, respectively, indicating that feed fermentation was slower in fermenters compared with that in sheep. There were differences between systems in the magnitude of most determined parameters. In general, fermenters showed lower lactate concentrations, neutral detergent fiber digestibility, acetate:propionate ratios, and enzymatic activities. On the contrary, fermenters showed greater NH3-N concentrations, DM digestibility, and proportions of propionate, butyrate, isovalerate, valerate, and caproate. Values of efficiency of microbial growth were greater in fermenters compared with sheep for 70:30 diets, but they were lower for 30:70 diets. Differences between fermentation in sheep and fermenters can be mainly attributed to the lack of absorption in fermenters, differences in solid retention time, and compartmentalization in the Rusitec system. In general, the Rusitec system simulated more closely the in vivo fermentation of high-forage diets compared with high-concentrate diets.  相似文献
