The transverse resonance approach to guided wave analysis is applied to shear horizontal (SH) wave propagation in periodically layered composites. It is found for SH waves that at high values of the guided wavevector β, the wave energy is trapped in the slower of the two media and propagates accordingly at the slower wavespeed. At low values of β, however, the modes demonstrate a clustering behavior, indicative of the underlying Floquet wave structure. The number of modes in a cluster is observed to correlate with the number of unit cells in the layered plate. New physical insights into the behavior of these systems are obtained by analyzing the partial waves of the guided SH modes in terms of Floquet waves. We show that the fast and slow shear waves in the periodically layered composite play an analogous role to the longitudinal and shear partial waves comprising Lamb waves in a homogeneous plate 相似文献

Morphology, histology, and immunohistochemistry of the adrenocortical and adrenomedullary homologs (adrenal glands) of the following developing and adult teleosts were examined: Salmoniformes-Oncorhynchus mykiss (rainbow trout), Salmo trutta fario (brown trout), Coregonus lavaretus (white fish); Cyprinodontiformes-Gambusia affinis (mosquito fish). Perciformes-Dicentrarchus labrax (sea bass), Sparus aurata (sea bream), Diplodus sargus (white bream), Oblada melanura (saddled bream). The anatomical relationships of the gland with the renal system and venous vessels were also noted. In adults of all species steroidogenic and catecholaminergic chromaffin cells were found in the head kidney, which is pronephric in origin and subsequently transformed into a hematopoietic lymphatic organ. In Perciformes, chromaffin cells are distributed around the anterior and posterior cardinal veins and ducts of Cuvier; in Salmoniformes, around the posterior cardinal veins and in the hematopoietic tissue; and in G. affinis, around the ducts of Cuvier and posterior cardinal veins, while a few are visible also around the sinus venosus. In Perciformes and Salmoniformes, numerous chromaffin cells are also present in the posterior kidney, derived from the opisthonephros, in contact with the caudal vein. Steroidogenic cells are always confined to the head kidney. During development chromaffin and steroidogenic cells appear early after hatching in the pronephric kidney, at the level of the ducts of Cuvier and of the cephalic part of the posterior cardinal veins. Later, chromaffin cells in Perciformes reach the anterior cardinal veins, and subsequently, in both Perciformes and Salmoniformes, they reach the developing posterior kidney. Their localization along the posterior kidney is still in progress about 4 months after hatching and is completed about a year after hatching. These findings support the concept that the structure of the adrenal gland in teleosts is intermediate between that of the other actinopterygians and that of tetrapods. The development differs from that of tetrapods in that it occurs mainly in the pronephros and only later do chromaffin cells reach the opisthonephric kidney. 相似文献

The EUROMET.T-K3 comparison is the regional extension of CCT-K3. The comparison involved the six European national metrology
institutes (NMIs) previously involved in CCT-K3 (LNE-INM/CNAM, SMU, INRiM, NMi-VSL, NPL, PTB) and 18 additional European national
laboratories. The comparison was divided into five different loops, each coordinated by a co-pilot chosen from the laboratories
having participated in the CCT-K3 comparison. LNE-INM/CNAM played the role of pilot in linking the five loops. In each loop,
an artifact in the form of a standard platinum resistance thermometer (SPRT, 25 Ω) was circulated among the participating
laboratories. To have sufficient information about the possible drift of the SPRTs, the co-pilots performed a calibration
over the full temperature range at the beginning and at the end of the loop. A EUROMET reference value (ERV), taking into
account the whole comparison, was defined, and the differences (T
Lab − T
ERV) were calculated with the associated uncertainties. The method for establishing the link between the participants in CCT-K3
and in EUROMET.T-K3 is described.

OBJECTIVE: Thoracic injury remains a major source of morbidity and mortality in urban trauma centers. With the advent and increasing expertise in video assisted thoracic surgery, this modality has become an attractive alternative in the management of patients with thoracic injury. This report will review our experience with video assisted thoracic surgery at a level I trauma center and attempt to further delineate the indications for and timing of thoracoscopy in thoracic trauma. METHODS: We identified 16 patients who had undergone video assisted thoracic surgery following chest trauma between July 1991 and June 1994. There were 15 penetrating and one blunt trauma. All 16 patients were initially treated with tube thoracostomy. From 0-20 days post-injury, video assisted thoracic surgery was attempted with either diagnostic or therapeutic intentions. RESULTS: Twelve of the 16 patients (75%) had successful thoracoscopy. Three patients had diaphragmatic injury excluded and nine patients had successful evacuation of clotted hemothoraces. Evacuation of clotted hemothorax up to 7 days post-injury was safe and easily accomplished. Four patients (25%) had unsuccessful thoracoscopy and were converted to standard thoracotomy; failure was attributed to either suboptimal single lung ventilation or severe pleural inflammatory reaction. The only death in the entire group occurred 10 days after a thoracotomy for retained hemothorax. The median post-operative hospital stay following successful video assisted thoracic surgery was 3.5 days. CONCLUSIONS: Video assisted thoracic surgery can be utilized as an effective and safe method for the initial diagnostic evaluation and surgical management of stable patients with penetrating thoracic trauma. 相似文献

The EUROMET.T-K4 comparison is the regional extension of CCT-K4, an intercomparison of the realizations of the freezing points
of Al (660.323°C) and Ag (961.78°C). The intercomparison was organized in four loops. Long-stem standard platinum resistance
thermometers (SPRTs) were used as traveling standards: 25 Ω thermometers to be used only at the Al freezing point and two
high-temperature standard platinum resistance thermometers (HTSPRTs) to be used only at the Ag freezing point in each loop.
Parallel to the measurements with thermometers, the pilots and sub-pilots organized an internal intercomparison using an Ag
fixed-point cell. Most HTSPRTs showed a strong drift which is mainly due to mechanical stress and poisoning of the sensor
by impurities. This drift can be partially compensated by a correction based on Matthiessen’s rule. An evaluation of the data
taking into account both HTSPRTs in each loop, the linkage of the sub-pilots by measurements at the Ag freezing point, and
a possible compensation according to Matthiessens’s rule, allows calculation of the results of the participants’ measurements
at the Ag freezing point. The results of the participating laboratories are summarized, and proposals for key comparison reference
values and linking of the results to CCT-K3 and CCT-K4 are presented. 相似文献
