This work addresses the role of different modifiers on the overall photocurrent response, which allowed a dual material insertion, increasing the charge separation without compromise the surface catalysis. Sn-addition onto nanoceramic hematite photoelectrodes clearly increased flat band potential, promoting a good charge separation, and shifting the onset to a higher potential, attributed to the surface-trapping state created by this modification. Notoriously, Sn-hematite photoelectrodes loaded with NiFeOx exhibited the highest photocurrent density, suggesting a partially recovered surface-trapping states created during the electrode designing. The well-known cocatalyst acted in the overall photoelectrocatalytic response with no significant effect on the turn-on voltage, in other words, with minor effect related to catalytic efficiency. The dual modification contributes to understand the role of different modifiers allowing to satisfactorily improve charge separation while maintaining the conductivity attributed to IV-group ions.  相似文献

The precise orientation of the collagen fibrils in human cornea and sclera and the method by which these two areas fuse together at the limbus have never been determined, despite the importance of this information. From a consideration of the mechanics of the system, fibril orientation in the tissue has the potential to affect the curvature of the cornea so, by inference, refractive problems such as astigmatism involving an incorrect curvature of the cornea may be related to fibril orientation. The high intensity and small beam size of a synchrotron x-ray source has enabled us to study fibril orientation in post-mortem human cornea and sclera. Previously we have revealed two preferred directions of orientation in the cornea (Meek, K. M., T. Blamires, G. F. Elliot, T. Y. Gyi, and C. J. Nave. 1987. Curr. Eye Res. 6:841-846) and a circumcorneal annulus in the limbus (Newton, R. H., and K. M. Meek. 1998. Invest. Ophthalmol. & Visual Sci. 39: 1125-1134). Here we present the results of our investigation into the relationship between these two features. Our measurements indicate that the corneal fibrils oriented in the two preferred directions bend at the limbus to run circumferentially. On the basis of these results we propose a model as to how the human cornea and sclera fuse together.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To review the results of surgical management of heterotopic ossification about the elbow in burned patients. DESIGN: Retrospective analysis with long-term patient follow-up. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eleven patients with 16 elbows requiring surgery were admitted between January 1, 1982 and December 31, 1993. A posterior approach to the elbow with release of the encased ulnar nerve +/- anterior transposition and transolecranon osteotomy to access extensive bone formation in the olecranon fossa was employed. Eight patients (11 elbows) were available for long-term follow-up conducted at mean 50 +/- 13 months after surgery. Long-term follow-up consisted of measurement of range of elbow motion, as well as clinical assessment of ulnar nerve function. MAIN RESULTS: For the 11 elbows examined postoperatively, the mean range of motion preoperatively in flexion-extension was 11 degrees +/- 5 degrees compared to 89 degrees +/- 12 degrees postoperatively (p < 0.001). Three patients with poor long-term results had ankylosis of the joint preoperatively. Of four patients with ulnar nerve paresis preoperatively, none had ulnar nerve dysfunction at follow-up. Of 16 elbows operated on, four (25%) had postoperative complications. Two suffered soft-tissue breakdown with hardware exposure requiring abdominal flap closure, one early failure of olecranon fixation, and one late infected hardware. CONCLUSIONS: Surgery for both limited range of motion as well as ulnar nerve compression is effective in cases of heterotopic ossification about the elbows of burned patients. Early operative intervention is indicated in progressive disease, particularly ulnar nerve palsy, if soft-tissue quality is adequate. Complications with 25% of elbows suggest that use of olecranon osteotomy for joint access may warrant review.  相似文献

Ozone profile data have been retrieved from the Optical Spectrograph and InfraRed Imager System (OSIRIS) instrument onboard the Odin Satellite, which was launched on 20 February 2001. Considering the irregular sampling of the OSIRIS, a least-squares fit method is employed to provide the wavenumber and frequency spectra of the waves affecting the OSIRIS ozone profile distributions. Meanwhile, criteria are developed and applied for reducing spectral biases. Then spectral analysis of the global OSIRIS ozone profiles data is perfomred at altitudes of 38.5 km and 40.5 km within two latitude bins 35?–45?N and 45?–55?N during days 75–105 of the year 2002. Specifically, a westward-propagating 10-day planetary wave is detected and validated by medium frequency (MF) Radar (MFR) at Platteville (40?N, 105?W) and Saskatoon (52?N, 107?W), and UKMO global stratospheric data (UK Meteorological Office assimilated model). The spatial and temporal distributions of the global OSIRIS ozone profile data are shown to allow identification of major planetary wave features in the middle atmosphere.  相似文献

Chromium tanned bovine leather has been dried under uniaxial strain and its collagen fibre distribution examined using high-angle X-ray diffraction. Microstructural modelling of the fibre kinematics showed that under large-strain deformation (30%) the fibres behave in a psuedo-affine manner. At decreasingly lower strains the fibre re-orientation is seen to progressively deviate from the pseudo-affine prediction; an observation which can be understood in terms of a combination of fibre-fibre adhesion and changes in fibre substructure. The material was also subjected to mechanical testing and tensile data is presented here which indicates how fibre orientation affects tensile modulus. This work represents the first quantitative microstructural model for collagen fibre distribution in strained leather.  相似文献

The EM algorithm is a popular method for parameter estimation in a variety of problems involving missing data. However, the EM algorithm often requires significant computational resources and has been dismissed as impractical for large databases. We present two approaches that significantly reduce the computational cost of applying the EM algorithm to databases with a large number of cases, including databases with large dimensionality. Both approaches are based on partial E-steps for which we can use the results of Neal and Hinton (In Jordan, M. (Ed.), Learning in Graphical Models, pp. 355–371. The Netherlands: Kluwer Academic Publishers) to obtain the standard convergence guarantees of EM. The first approach is a version of the incremental EM algorithm, described in Neal and Hinton (1998), which cycles through data cases in blocks. The number of cases in each block dramatically effects the efficiency of the algorithm. We provide amethod for selecting a near optimal block size. The second approach, which we call lazy EM, will, at scheduled iterations, evaluate the significance of each data case and then proceed for several iterations actively using only the significant cases. We demonstrate that both methods can significantly reduce computational costs through their application to high-dimensional real-world and synthetic mixture modeling problems for large databases.  相似文献
