Renewable Energy (RE) sources form a minuscule portion of India’s overall Energy consumption today. India continues to rely on fast depleting fossil fuel and expensive Oil imports to satisfy the energy demands of the economy. But this is hardly sustainable and India has to quickly get RE sources to play a major role in servicing the energy needs of its population. Despite the best efforts the adoption of RE sources by consumer communities in India is patchy. This article will focus on what needs to be done to create a pull from the market for RE sources, by looking at Consumer Behaviour literature available in the area of Diffusion of Innovation[1]. Demand for RE sources from consumer communities must reach a tipping point[4] quickly; for the sector to take-off on its own and become a self-sustaining business.  相似文献

Seed kernels of two cultivars (Chausa and Dusheri) of mango (Mangifera indica) were analysed for chemical composition, lipid classes, fatty acid composition, amino acid profile and chemical evaluation of protein quality. The seed kernels constituted about 18% of the total fruit and had 5% protein, 6–7% crude fat, 0.19–0.44% tannins, iodine value of 34–44 and saponification number 202–213. Oleic acid (42%) and stearic acid (39%) were the principal fatty acids in the oil. The in vitro digestibility was low in these cultivars, possibly due to the presence of tannins. Sulphur-containing amino acids (methionine+cystine) and isoleucine were the limiting amino acids in Chausa and Dusheri, respectively. The essential amino acid index and protein quality index were high, thus indicating the good quality of the protein in mango seed kernel.  相似文献

A finite element heat transport program has been modified to model the thermal behavior for a cylindrically symmetric salt gradient polar pond of the Rabl-Nielsen type. In this model transient phenomena as well as steady state behavior can be studied. Results are presented for a model of the solar pond at the University of New Mexico and are compared with actual measurements.  相似文献

Solution conformation of cyclo(Gly1-His2-Phe3-Arg4-Trp5-Gly6) and its D-Phe analog corresponding to the message sequence [Gly-alpha-MSH5-10] of alpha-MSH has been studied by 1D and 2D proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-d6 solution and in a DMSO-d6/H2O cryoprotective mixture. The NMR data for both the analogs in solution at 300 K cannot be interpreted based on a single ordered conformation, as evidenced by the broadening of only -NH resonances as well as the temperature coefficients of the amide protons. An analysis of the nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) cross-peaks in conjunction with temperature coefficient data indicates an equilibrium of multiple conformers with a substantial population of particular conformational states at least in the D-analog. The molecular dynamics simulations without and with NOE constraints also reveal numerous low-energy conformers with two gamma-turns, a gamma-turn and a beta-turn, two beta-turns, etc. for both the analogs. The observed NMR spectra can be rationalized by a dynamic equilibrium of conformers characterized by a gamma-bend at Gly6, two gamma-bends at Phe3 and Gly6 and a conformer with a single beta-turn and a gamma-bend for the L-Phe analog. On the other hand, a conformation with two fused beta-turns around the two tetrads His2-D-Phe3-Arg4-Trp5 and Trp5-Gly6-Gly1-His2 dominates the equilibrium mixture for the D-Phe analog. For the D-Phe analog, the experimentally observed average conformation is corroborated by molecular dynamics simulations as well as by studies in cryoprotective solvent.  相似文献

Doxorubicin containing combination chemotherapy regimens are widely used for treatment of breast and other cancers. However, these regimens are associated with significant toxicities including myocardial dysfunction and alopecia. Analogues of doxorubicin are being developed to reduce these side effects. We conducted a Phase II trial of an anthracycline analogue, pirarubicin, administered in combination with 5-fluorouracil and cyclophosphamide every 3 weeks, as front-line chemotherapy in women with metastatic breast cancer. Patients who had received prior anthracycline therapy were excluded. The chemotherapy doses were as follows: 5-fluorouracil (500 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8), pirarubicin (50 mg/m2 on day 1), and cyclophosphamide (500 mg/m2 on day 1). Among 40 evaluable patients treated on this protocol, a major response (partial or complete remission) was observed in 26 patients (response rate, 62%; 95% confidence interval, 46-77). The median response duration was 8 months, and median survival was 16 months. Grade III/IV myelosuppression occurred in 81% of the courses. The median cumulative pirarubicin dose was 410 (range, 90-870) mg/m2. A significant decrease in left ventricular ejection fraction occurred in 12 patients (at a median cumulative pirarubicin dose of 460 mg/m2) and led to congestive heart failure in 4 of these patients (cumulative pirarubicin doses of 500, 520, 590, and 730 mg/m2, respectively). Eleven patients underwent endomyocardial biopsy, either because they experienced a drop in left ventricular ejection fraction or because they had received a cumulative pirarubicin dose of 600 mg/m2 and were still responding to the treatment. Of these, only one biopsy was found to be more than grade 1.0 (in an individual who had received a cumulative dose of 705 mg/m2). Severe alopecia occurred in two-thirds of the patients. Pharmacokinetic studies revealed a triphasic elimination of pirarubicin with alpha, beta and gamma half-lives of 0.12, 1.44, and 33.9 h, respectively. Total clearance of drug was 4.2 liters.1 h/kg while the cumulative 24-h urinary excretion was less than 10% of the administered dose. The activity of the combination appears to be similar to doxorubicin-containing regimens, while the incidence of alopecia appears to be lower than the historical experience with doxorubicin. However, cardiotoxicity remains a significant problem.  相似文献

A design procedure for integrating topological considerations in the framework of structural optimization is presented. The proposed approach is capable of considering multiple load conditions, stress, displacement and local/global buckling constraints, and multiple objective functions in the problem formulation. Further, since the proposed method permits members to be added to or deleted from an existing topology and the topology is not defined by member areas, the difficulty of not being able to reach singular optima is also avoided. These objectives are accomplished using a discrete optimization procedure which uses 0–1 topological variables to optimize alternate designs. Since the topological variables are discrete in nature and the member cross-sections are assumed to be continuous, the topological optimization problem has mixed discrete-continuous variables. This non-linear programming problem is solved using a memory-based combinatorial optimization technique known as tabu search. Numerical results obtained using tabu search for single and multiobjective topological optimization of truss structures are presented. To model the multiple objective functions in the problem formulation, a cooperative game theoretic approach is used. The results indicate that the optimum topologies obtained using tabu search compare favourably, and in some instances, outperform the results obtained using the ground–structure approach. However, this improvement occurs at the expense of a significant increase in computational burden owing to the fact that the proposed approach necessitates that the geometry of each trial topology be optimized.  相似文献

The reliability of a multistage system with several components in each stage can be improved either by using more reliable components, or by adding redundant components in parallel in any stage. In many practical situations where reliability enhancement is involved, the decision making is complicated because of the presence of several mutually conflicting goals. For example, in the reliability based design of a system, the designer may be required to maximize the reliability and minimize the cost, weight or volume. This work considers the problem of reliability allocation for multistage systems with components having time-dependent reliability. Two multiobjective optimization techniques are presented, coupled with heuristic procedures, to solve the mixed integer nonlinear programming problems. A generalization of the problem in the presence of vague information results in an ill-structured reliability apportionment problem. The solution of such multiobjective problems is also presented in the present work using the techniques of fuzzy optimization.  相似文献
