The class of transaction scheduling mechanisms in which the transaction serialization order can be determined by controlling their commitment order, is defined. This class of transaction management mechanisms is important, because it simplifies transaction management in a multidatabase system environment. The notion of analogous execution and serialization orders of transactions is defined and the concept of strongly recoverable and rigorous execution schedules is introduced. It is then proven that rigorous schedulers always produce analogous execution and serialization orders. It is shown that the systems using the rigorous scheduling can be naturally incorporated in hierarchical transaction management mechanisms. It is proven that several previously proposed multidatabase transaction management mechanisms guarantee global serializability only if all participating databases systems produce rigorous schedules  相似文献

As the amount of RDF datasets available on the Web has grown significantly over the last years, scalability and performance of Semantic Web (SW) systems are gaining importance. Current RDF benchmarking efforts either consider schema-less RDF datasets or rely on fixed RDFS schemas. In this paper, we present the first RDFS schema generator, termed PoweRGen, which takes into account the features exhibited by real SW schemas. It considers the power-law functions involved in (a) the combined in- and out-degree distribution of the property graph (which captures the domains and ranges of the properties defined in a schema) and (b) the out-degree distribution of the transitive closure (TC) of the subsumption graph (which essentially captures the class hierarchy). The synthetic schemas generated by PoweRGen respect the power-law functions given as input with an accuracy ranging between 89 and 96%, as well as, various morphological characteristics regarding the subsumption hierarchy depth, structure, etc.  相似文献

The Video Event Awareness Workbench (VEAW) analyzes surveillance video from thousands of video cameras and automatically detects complex events in near-real-time-at pace with their input video streams. For events of interest to security personnel, VEAW generates and routes alerts and related video evidence to subscribing security personnel. Complex event processing in VEAW is driven by user-authored awareness specifications comprised of inter-connected spatio-temporal stream and statistical operators that consume and produce events described in VEAW’s surveillance ontology. In this paper we introduce VEAW’s event driven architecture and describe its solutions for automating video surveillance, including the orchestration of continuous and tasked video analysis algorithms (e.g., for entity tracking and identification), fusion of events from multiple sources in an installation-specific “world” model, and proactive information gathering to deal with missing or incomplete information (this is done by tasking video analysis algorithms and security personnel to provide it). We also discuss how VEAW deals with late arriving information (due to out-of-band video analysis tasks and overhead), as well as a related resource optimization aimed at minimizing computation costs. We illustrate the benefits of VEAW by illustrating its application on the automation of real-world security policies.  相似文献

Today's business enterprises must deal with global competition, reduce the cost of doing business, and rapidly develop new services and products. To address these requirements enterprises must constantly reconsider and optimize the way they do business and change their information systems and applications to support evolving business processes. Workflow technology facilitates these by providing methodologies and software to support (i) business process modeling to capture business processes as workflow specifications, (ii) business process reengineering to optimize specified processes, and (iii) workflow automation to generate workflow implementations from workflow specifications. This paper provides a high-level overview of the current workflow management methodologies and software products. In addition, we discuss the infrastructure technologies that can address the limitations of current commercial workflow technology and extend the scope and mission of workflow management systems to support increased workflow automation in complex real-world environments involving heterogeneous, autonomous, and distributed information systems. In particular, we discuss how distributed object management and customized transaction management can support further advances in the commercial state of the art in this area. Nitric oxide (NO) synthesized within mammalian sinoatrial cells has been shown to participate in cholinergic control of heart rate (HR). However, it is not known whether NO synthesized within neurons plays a role in HR regulation. HR dynamics were measured in 24 wild-type (WT) mice and 24 mice in which the gene for neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) was absent (nNOS-/- mice). Mean HR and HR variability were compared in subsets of these animals at baseline, after parasympathetic blockade with atropine (0.5 mg/kg i.p.), after beta-adrenergic blockade with propranolol (1 mg/kg i.p.), and after combined autonomic blockade. Other animals underwent pressor challenge with phenylephrine (3 mg/kg i.p.) after beta-adrenergic blockade to test for a baroreflex-mediated cardioinhibitory response. The latter experiments were then repeated after inactivation of inhibitory G proteins with pertussis toxin (PTX) (30 microgram/kg i.p.). At baseline, nNOS-/- mice had higher mean HR (711+/-8 vs. 650+/-8 bpm, P = 0.0004) and lower HR variance (424+/-70 vs. 1,112+/-174 bpm2, P = 0.001) compared with WT mice. In nNOS-/- mice, atropine administration led to a much smaller change in mean HR (-2+/-9 vs. 49+/-5 bpm, P = 0.0008) and in HR variance (64+/-24 vs. -903+/-295 bpm2, P = 0.02) than in WT mice. In contrast, propranolol administration and combined autonomic blockade led to similar changes in mean HR between the two groups. After beta-adrenergic blockade, phenylephrine injection elicited a fall in mean HR and rise in HR variance in WT mice that was partially attenuated after treatment with PTX. The response to pressor challenge in nNOS-/- mice before PTX administration was similar to that in WT mice. However, PTX-treated nNOS-/- mice had a dramatically attenuated response to phenylephrine. These findings suggest that the absence of nNOS activity leads to reduced baseline parasympathetic tone, but does not prevent baroreflex-mediated cardioinhibition unless inhibitory G proteins are also inactivated. Thus, neuronally derived NO and cardiac inhibitory G protein activity serve as parallel pathways to mediate autonomic slowing of heart rate in the mouse.  相似文献

A switchable electrode, which relies on an indium‐tin oxide conductive substrate coated with a self‐assembled monolayer terminated with an anthraquinone group (AQ), is reported as an electrowetting system. AQ electrochemical features confer the capability of yielding a significant modulation of surface wettability as high as 26° when its redox state is switched. Hence, an array of planar electrodes for droplets actuation is fabricated and integrated in a microfluidic device to perform mixing and dispensing on sub‐nanoliter scale. Vehiculation of cells across microfluidic compartments is made possible by taking full advantage of surface electrowetting in culture medium.  相似文献
