Increasing numbers of automotive control systems are being designed as distributed systems, with critical functions linked by electronic communications. This includes X-by-wire systems, which seek to replace mechanical or hydraulic linkages with electrical or communications links. These systems raise a number of new challenges: Safety is a function of the whole system rather than any one system feature. Thus, safety analysis and understanding must occur at the (complex) system level. A robust design process is essential to ensure that complex system issues and critical analysis occur at the right development stage and cover all appropriate parts of the system. This article provides a case study of a development project to show how these and other issues can be addressed. We describe the development of a communications network for a safety-related engine application that consists of a central electronic control unit (ECU) and a number of distributed actuators that are controlled via the network. We apply several techniques, such as hazard and scheduling analysis, to resolve safety and reliability issues  相似文献

A human melanoma cell line RVH-421 which selectively demonstrates melanin synthesis when cultured in L15 Leibowitz medium but not in RPMI medium was used as a model to examine haematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) uptake and the photocytotoxicity of photodynamic therapy (PDT). Confocal scanning microscopy and extraction fluorometry showed HPD uptake in both non-pigmented and pigmented melanoma cells. Phototoxicity was determined by incubating pigmented and non-pigmented monolayer cells with HPD, exposing them to variable periods of white fluorescent light and calculating the number of viable cells in the samples relative to the controls. Both the non-pigmented and pigmented melanoma cells were affected by light-dependent cytotoxicity which was greater in the non-pigmented cells. Melanin or other substances may reduce the photo-oxidative effects of PDT. Posterior uveal melanomas in 36 patients were treated with PDT with the longest duration of tumour control being 6.5 years. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that 76% of melanomas were not growing at the end of the first year, declining to 62% at the end of the second year, with 38% showing no signs of growth at the end of the fifth year. No eyes were lost as a result of PDT. Cox's hazards analysis showed that the degree of tumour pigmentation and patient age at therapy significantly influence the tumour response to PDT.  相似文献

Conventional wisdom and anecdote suggests that testing takes between 30 to 50% of a project's effort. However testing is not a monolithic activity as it consists of a number of different phases such as unit testing, integration testing and finally system and acceptance test. Unit testing has received a lot of criticism in terms of the amount of time that it is perceived to take and its perceived costs. However it still remains an important verification activity being an effective means to test individual software components for boundary value behavior and ensure that all code has been exercised adequately. We examine the available data from three safety-related, industrial software projects that have made use of unit testing. Using this information we argue that the perceived costs of unit testing may be exaggerated and that the likely benefits in terms of defect detection are quite high in relation to those costs. We also discuss the different issues that have been found applying the technique at different phases of the development and using different methods to generate those tests. We also compare results we have obtained with empirical results from the literature and highlight some possible weakness of research in this area.  相似文献
