The design and analysis of a miniature electromagnetic actuator for use in a novel virtual tactile display is described. The actuator operates in repulsive mode so that it can be used for vibro-tactile stimulation of a human fingertip. Pulsed current and permanent magnet based approaches are investigated and compared. Four frequencies (10, 50, 100, and 150 Hz) were used to test the perception limit of three human subjects. The results indicated that the perception is not strongly dependent on frequency in the test range. The required stimulation energy of individual pulses was estimated to be below 57 micro-Joules, while the average peak-force needed for reliable stimulation was 59 milli-Newtons. The perception of simple test shapes was also tested by attaching the actuator onto the fingertip of the human subjects and turning it on and off as a function of its position.  相似文献

Studies were carried out to assess the effects of stabilized (i.e., coated with organic polyacrylic stabilizer) and nonstabilized forms of zero-valent nanoiron (nZVI) on the development of Mytilus galloprovincialis embryos following 2 h exposure of the sperm prior to in vitro fertilization. Both forms of nZVI caused serious disruption of development, consisting of 30% mortality among spermatozoa with subsequent 20% decline in fertilization success, and delay in development, i.e., over 50% of the larvae were suspended in the trochophore stage. Significant DNA damage was also detected in sperm exposed to the highest exposure concentrations (10 mg L(-1)). Distinct dose response to the two different types of nZVI observed are linked to aggregation behavior that is controlled by the surface stabilizers. This work reports on conventional biomarkers (for membrane integrity, genotoxicity, and developmental toxicity) applied for the rapid assessment of toxicity of nZVI, which are able to detect surface property-related effects to meet the requirements of risk assessments for nanotechnology. The study highlights the potential ecotoxicological impact of an environmentally relevant engineered nanoparticle. Implications of the NOM-nZVI interactions regarding soil and groundwater remediation and wastewater treatment are discussed.  相似文献

Arsenic removal from rice by washing and cooking with water   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Two Hungarian and one Chinese rice samples were selected in order to establish the extractable arsenic content by washing and cooking in water in a ratio of 6:1, water:rice (cm3:g) by inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry (ICP-SF-MS). Total arsenic concentration of the Zhenshan 97, Risabell and Ko?röstáj-333 samples were 171.3 ± 7.1 ng g−1, 116.0 ± 3.7 ng g−1 and 139.0 ± 6.1 ng g−1, respectively, which did not exceed the toxic limits established for As in Hungary (0.3 μg g−1) or in China (0.7 μg g−1). The predominant chemical form of As in the raw rice samples determined by on-line high performance liquid chromatography and ICP-MS was arsenite. Moreover, enzymatic hydrolysis with α-amylase + protease and microprobe focused sonication proved that arsenite could be removed in the highest extent by washing and cooking, meanwhile the main As form remaining in the cooked rice was As(V). Thus, it is recommended to prepare rice-containing dishes in abundant water, which should be discarded after washing and cooking. The results were validated with a NIST SRM 1568a.  相似文献

The effects of four hypertext learning environments with a hierarchical graphical overview were studied on the coherence of the node sequence, extraneous load and comprehension. Navigation patterns were influenced by the type of overview provided (i.e., dynamic, static) and whether navigation was restricted (i.e., restricted, non-restricted). It was hypothesised that redundant use of the overview for inducing a high-coherence reading sequence would result in high extraneous load and low comprehension. Coherence was higher in the dynamic than in the static conditions. Coherence was also higher in the restricted than in the non-restricted conditions. Mental effort as a measure of extraneous load was higher at the end than at the beginning of the learning phase, especially in the dynamic restricted and the static non-restricted conditions, although there was no significant interaction. Comprehension was lowest in the dynamic restricted condition and highest in the dynamic non-restricted and static restricted conditions. Low comprehension in the dynamic restricted condition indicates that overviews can become redundant for reading sequence coherence, negatively impacting comprehension. The evidence suggests that severe restriction of navigation paths should be avoided and that continuous use of overviews such as in dynamic overviews may be detrimental to learning.  相似文献

Natterin is a potent pro-inflammatory fish molecule, inducing local and systemic IL-1β/IL-1R1-dependent neutrophilia mediated by non-canonical NLRP6 and NLRC4 inflammasome activation in mice, independent of NLRP3. In this work, we investigated whether Natterin activates mitochondrial damage, resulting in self-DNA leaks into the cytosol, and whether the DNA sensor cGAS and STING pathway participate in triggering the innate immune response. Employing a peritonitis mouse model, we found that the deficiency of the tlr2/tlr4, myd88 and trif results in decreased neutrophil influx to peritoneal cavities of mice, indicative that in addition to MyD88, TRIF contributes to neutrophilia triggered by TLR4 engagement by Natterin. Next, we demonstrated that gpcr91 deficiency in mice abolished the neutrophil recruitment after Natterin injection, but mice pre-treated with 2-deoxy-d-glucose that blocks glycolysis presented similar infiltration than WT Natterin-injected mice. In addition, we observed that, compared with the WT Natterin-injected mice, DPI and cyclosporin A treated mice had a lower number of neutrophils in the peritoneal exudate. The levels of dsDNA in the supernatant of the peritoneal exudate and processed IL-33 in the supernatant of the peritoneal exudate or cytoplasmic supernatant of the peritoneal cell lysate of WT Natterin-injected mice were several folds higher than those of the control mice. The recruitment of neutrophils to peritoneal cavity 2 h post-Natterin injection was intensely impaired in ifnar KO mice and partially in il-28r KO mice, but not in ifnγr KO mice. Finally, using cgas KO, sting KO, or irf3 KO mice we found that recruitment of neutrophils to peritoneal cavities was virtually abolished in response to Natterin. These findings reveal cytosolic DNA sensors as critical regulators for Natterin-induced neutrophilia.  相似文献

Biodiesel production showed an immense increase worldwide in the past decade. Since the comprehensive analyses of biodiesel production processes and their comparative evaluation are both rare and not informative enough, e.g., for scientists and decision makers, in this work different, favored biodiesel production alternatives (rapeseed, soybean and palm) are analyzed from multiple viewpoints and compared. A complex examination is carried out with Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental (PESTLE) analysis, where cradle-to-grave life cycle analysis is incorporated and performed within PESTLE factors. Life cycle inventory is set up based on Ecoinvent 3.3 database, while life cycle impact assessments are achieved by IPCC 2013, IMPACT 2002+, EPS 2000 and 2015dx methods. Monte Carlo analysis is also carried out in order to make certain about the robustness of input data. The investigated factors are weighted and ranked with multi-criteria decision analysis, wherein Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method is applied for the comparison of alternatives. Our work presents a clear methodology for the comprehensive evaluation of biodiesel production alternatives, but the guideline can be followed for the evaluation of other production alternatives. In spite that the life cycle analysis shows the palm oil as the best alternative, the results of our comprehensive analysis show that the highest overall TOPSIS score can be achieved with rapeseed-based biodiesel pathway, especially for the European region.  相似文献

Pervaporation is an important membrane separation method of chemical engineering. In this work,silver-nanoparticles-poly(vinyl alcohol) nanocomposite membranes(AgNPs-PVA) are produced for the sake of improving its potentials for pervaporation of ethanol–water mixture so that the usual opposite trend between membrane selectivity and permeation can be reduced. The nanocomposite membranes are fabricated from an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl alcohol) with silver nanoparticles via the in-situ generation technique in the absence of any reducing agent. Successful generation of the nano size silver is measured by the UV–vis spectrum showing a single peak at 419 nm due to the plasmonic effect of silver nanoparticles. Our nanocomposite AgNPs-PVA membranes are characterized using scanning electron microscope(SEM), Fourier-transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The pervaporation tests of our new AgNPs-PVA membranes show good results since at a higher temperature and higher ethanol concentration in the feed, the prepared membranes are highly permeable for the water having stable selectivity values and therefore our membranes show better performance compared to that of the other PVA-based nanocomposite membranes.  相似文献

Novel compounds significantly interfering with the mitochondrial energy production may have therapeutic value in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This criterion is clearly fulfilled by desethylamiodarone (DEA), which is a major metabolite of amiodarone, a widely used antiarrhythmic drug, since the DEA previously demonstrated anti-neoplastic, anti-metastasizing, and direct mitochondrial effects in B16F10 melanoma cells. Additionally, the more than fifty years of clinical experience with amiodarone should answer most of the safety concerns about DEA. Accordingly, in the present study, we investigated DEA’s potential in TNBC by using a TN and a hormone receptor positive (HR+) BC cell line. DEA reduced the viability, colony formation, and invasive growth of the 4T1 cell line and led to a higher extent of the MCF-7 cell line. It lowered mitochondrial transmembrane potential and induced mitochondrial fragmentation. On the other hand, DEA failed to significantly affect various parameters of the cellular energy metabolism as determined by a Seahorse live cell respirometer. Cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), which was upregulated by DEA in the TNBC cell line only, accounted for most of 4T1’s DEA resistance, which was counteracted by the selective COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib. All these data indicate that DEA may have potentiality in the therapy of TNBC.  相似文献

This paper focuses on preliminary in vitro and in vivo testing of new bivalent folate-targeted PEGylated doxorubicin (DOX) made by modular chemo-enzymatic processes (FA2-dPEG-DOX2). A unique feature is the use of monodisperse PEG (dPEG). The modular approach with enzyme catalysis ensures exclusive γ-conjugation of folic acid, full conversion and selectivity, and no metal catalyst residues. Flow cytometry analysis showed that at 10 µM concentration, both free DOX and FA2-dPEG-DOX2 would be taken up by 99.9% of triple-negative breast cancer cells in 2 h. Intratumoral injection to mice seemed to delay tumor growth more than intravenous delivery. The mouse health status, food, water consumption, and behavior remained unchanged during the observation.  相似文献

The separation of non-ideal mixtures using distillation can be an extremely complex process and there continues to be a need to further improve these techniques. A new method which combines extractive heterogeneous-azeotropic distillation (EHAD) and hydrophilic pervaporation (HPV) for the separation of non-ideal ternary mixtures is demonstrated. This improved distillation method combines the benefits of heterogeneous-azeotropic and extractive distillations in one column but no added materials are needed as is usually the case with pervaporation. The separation of water-methanol-ethyl acetate and water-methanol-isopropyl acetate mixtures were investigated to demonstrate the accuracy of the combined EHAD/HPV technique. There is not currently an established treatment strategy for the separation of the second mixtures in the literature. These separation processes were rigorously modelled and optimized using a professional flowsheet. The objective functions were total cost and energy consumption and heat integration was also investigated. The verification of the process modelling was carried out using laboratory-scale measurements. Extractive heterogeneous-distillation combined with methanol dehydration was found to be more efficient than conventional distillation for the separation of these highly non-ideal mixtures.  相似文献
