Selective phosphorous diffusion is performed in Si to simultaneously form shallow n+p junctions of different depths in the submicron range by rapid thermal annealing (RTA). Low temperature (400°C) atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposited (APCVD) phosphosilicate glass (PSG) is used as diffusion source. A wide range of n+p junctions could be tailored with the same thermal budget by changing only the APCVD-PSG composition. This allows the formation of selectively diffused emitters in different regions of the wafer in one RTA step. 10 cm×10 cm Cz-Si selective emitter photovoltaic (PV) devices are fabricated this way with high energy conversion efficiencies in the range of 17% to 18%  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes is characterized by the presence of an autoimmune memory, responsible for the destruction of even syngeneic islet grafts. This recurrence of autoimmunity is partly responsible for the need of extensive immunosuppression in pancreas and islet transplantation in type 1 diabetic patients. The aim of the study was to evaluate the capacity of a 20-epi-analog of vitamin D3, KH1060, both alone and in combination with cyclosporine (CsA) to prevent diabetes recurrence in syngeneic islet grafts in nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice. METHODS: Spontaneously diabetic NOD mice grafted with syngeneic islets (n=500) under the kidney capsule were treated with KH1060, CsA, or a combination of both drugs from the day before transplantation until recurrence or 60 days after transplantation. RESULTS: Vehicle-treated mice showed a recurrence of diabetes in 100% of cases (n=17) within 4 weeks. Treatment with high doses of CsA (15 mg/kg/day) or KH1060 (1 microg/kg/2 days) significantly prolonged islet survival (60 days and 50 days, respectively, versus 9.5 days in controls; P<0.001 and P<0.0001). Mice treated with subtherapeutical doses of both drugs combined (KH1060 0.5 microg/kg/2 days + CsA 7.5 mg/kg/day) had significant prolongation of graft survival (48 days; P<0.001) and more importantly, four of five mice that were still normoglycemic 60 days after transplantation showed no recurrence after discontinuation of all treatment. Histology of the grafts of control and combination-treated mice demonstrated that graft infiltration and islet destruction were less severe in grafts of combination-treated mice. Cytokine mRNA analysis in the grafts 6 days after transplantation revealed a clear suppression of interleukin-12 and T helper 1 cytokines and higher levels of interleukin-4 in combination-treated mice. CONCLUSIONS: KH1060, an analog of 1,25(OH)2D3, delays autoimmune disease recurrence after syngeneic islet transplantation in NOD mice, both alone and especially in combination with CsA, possibly restoring tolerance to beta cells in 30% of cases.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the association between smoking during pregnancy and preterm birth. The overall rate of preterm delivery was 4.3%. Smokers had a 40% higher risk of preterm birth compared to non-smokers. A dose response relationship was found between smoking and risk of preterm birth. Adjustment for women's height, pre-pregnant weight, age of the mother, marital status, education, occupational status, and alcohol intake did not change the results. Among women with an intake of less than 400 mg of caffeine per day no difference in the risk of preterm birth between smokers and non-smokers was found. However, among women with an intake of more than 400 mg of caffeine per day, the risk of preterm birth was increased almost threefold among smokers compared to non-smokers. Furthermore, among women with a high intake of caffeine a dose response relationship was found between smoking and risk of preterm delivery.  相似文献

With the explosion of information available on the Web, finding specific medical information in an efficient way has become a considerable challenge. PubMed/MEDLINE offers an alternative to free-text searching on the web, allowing searchers to do a keyword-based search using Medical Subject Headings. However, finding relevant information within a limited time frame remains a difficult task. The current study is based on an error analysis of data from a retrieval experiment conducted at the nursing departments of two Belgian universities and a British university. We identified the main difficulties in query formulation and relevance judgment and compared the profiles of the best and worst performers in the test.For the analysis, a query collection was built from the queries submitted by our test participants. The queries in this collection are all aimed at finding the same specific information in PubMed, which allowed us to identify what exactly went wrong in the query formulation step. Another crucial aspect for efficient information retrieval is relevance judgment. Differences between potential and actual recall of each query offered indications of the extent to which participants overlooked relevant citations.The test participants were divided into “worst”, “average” and “best” performers based on the number of relevant citations they selected: zero, one or two and three or more, respectively. We tried to find out what the differences in background and in search behavior were between these three groups.  相似文献

Previous reports on possible genomic imprinting of the neuroblastoma tumour suppressor gene on chromosome 1p36 have been conflicting. Here we report on the parental origin of 1p36 alleles lost in 47 neuroblastomas and on a detailed Southern blot analysis of the extent of the 1p deletions in 38 cases. The results are remarkably different for tumours with and without N-myc amplification. In the N-myc single copy tumours we show that the lost 1p36 alleles are of preferential maternal origin (16 of 17 cases) and that the commonly deleted region maps to 1p36.2-3. In contrast, all N-myc amplified neuroblastomas have larger 1p deletions, extending from the telomere to at least 1p35-36.1. These deletions are of random parental origin (18 of 30 maternal LOH). This strongly suggests that different suppressor genes on 1p are inactivated in these two types of neuroblastoma. Deletion of a more proximal suppressor gene is associated with N-myc amplification, while a distal, probably imprinted, suppressor can be deleted in N-myc single copy cases.  相似文献

The quality of low-temperature (≈400°C) atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposited (APCVD) silicon dioxide (SiO2 ) films has been improved by a short time rapid thermal annealing (RTA) step. The RTA step followed by a low temperature (400°C) forming gas anneal (FGA) results in a well-passivated Si-SiO2 interface, comparable to thermally grown conventional oxides. Efficient and stable surface passivation is obtained by this technique on virgin silicon as well as on photovoltaic devices with diffused (n+p) emitter surface while maintaining a very low thermal budget. ABSTRACT

The goal of this study is to obtain a deeper insight in the relation between hydrogen diffusion and hydrogen traps present in Armco pure iron. Cold deformation was applied to this material, which initially contained a limited amount of traps. The cold deformation was applied to increase the dislocation density and modify grain boundary characteristics. In this way, the hydrogen diffusivity decreased as the hydrogen trapping ability of the microstructure increased. A subsequent heat treatment allowed changing the density of microstructural defects again and consequently increased the hydrogen diffusion coefficient. In addition, studying blister formation showed that a higher degree of deformation caused more surface blisters, while recovery lowered the number of blisters. Electron backscatter diffraction characterisation provided the necessary input on the microstructural features and their evolution. Analysis of these samples allowed evaluating the correlation between hydrogen diffusion, blister formation and microstructural defects.

Deletions of the short arm of chromosome 1, extra copies of chromosome 17q and MYCN amplification are the most frequently encountered genetic changes in neuroblastomas. Standard techniques for detection of one or more of these genetic changes are karyotyping, FISH analysis and LOH analysis by Southern blot or PCR. Each of these techniques has its own particular limitations. More recently, comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH) was introduced for detection of genomic imbalances including deletions, duplications and gene amplification. We evaluated the sensitivity and reliability of CGH for detection of the most frequently encountered genetic changes in neuroblastoma. For this purpose a panel of well-characterised neuroblastoma cell lines as well as a series of 11 primary neuroblastomas was analysed. Our results show that CGH is a valuable tool for the genetic characterisation of neuroblastomas, both for the detection of frequently occurring genomic imbalances and for the identification of previously unnoticed genetic changes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) was performed on ultra-low carbon (ULC) steel with various degrees of hydrogen-induced damage and deformation-induced defects. First, the extent to which hydrogen-induced damage manifests itself in TDS measurements was evaluated. Application of multiple test conditions on cold deformed ULC steel with and without the presence of hydrogen-induced damage showed that such damage did not appear as a hydrogen signal on the TDS spectra. Second, interesting features observed on the TDS spectra of cold deformed ULC steel were further investigated by assessing the TDS spectra of recrystallised and annealed ULC steel. As such, the four peaks in the TDS spectra were linked to microstructural features: interstitial lattice positions, grain boundaries, dislocations and microvoids.  相似文献
