Formal verification of program properties may be infeasible or impractical, and informal analysis may be sufficient. Informal analysis involves the informal acceptance, by inspection, of the validity of program properties or steps in an analysis. Informal analysis may also involve abstraction. Abstraction can be used to eliminate details and concentrate on more general properties. Abstraction will result in informal analysis if it includes the use of undefined properties. A systematic, informal method for analysis called QDA (Quick Defect Analysis) is described. QDA is a comments analysis process based on facts and hypotheses. Facts are used to create an abstract program model, and hypotheses are selected, nonobvious program properties which are identified as needing verification. Hypotheses are proved from the facts that define an abstraction. QDA is hypothesis-driven in the sense that only those parts of an abstraction that are needed to prove hypotheses are created. The QDA approach was applied to a previously well tested operational flight program (OFP). The QDA method and the results of the OFP experiment are presented. The problems of incomplete or unsound informal analysis are analyzed, the relationship of QDA to other analysis methods is discussed, and suggested improvements to the QDA method are described  相似文献

Pollen development and male gametogenesis are critically dependent upon cell polarization leading to a highly asymmetric cell division termed pollen mitosis I. A mutational approach was adopted in Arabidopsis thaliana to identify genes involved these processes. Four independent gemini pollen mutants were isolated which produce divided or twin-celled pollen. The gemini pollen1 mutant was characterized in detail and shown to act gametophytically resulting in reduced transmission through both sexes. gemini pollen1 showed an incompletely penetrant phenotype resulting in equal, unequal and partial divisions at pollen mitosis I. The division planes in gemini pollen1 were shown to be aligned with the polar axis (as in wild type) and evidence was obtained for incomplete nuclear migration, which could account for altered division symmetry. gemini pollen1 also showed division phenotypes consistent with spatial uncoupling of karyokinesis and cytokinesis suggesting that GEMINI POLLEN1 may be required for the localization of phragmoplast activity. Cell fate studies showed that in both equal and unequal divisions a vegetative cell marker gene was activated in both daughter cells. Daughter cells with a range of intermediate or hybrid vegetative/generative cell fates suggests that cell fate is quantitatively related to cell size. The potential mode of action of GEMINI POLLEN1 and its effects on cell fate are discussed in relation to proposed models of microspore polarity and cell fate determination.  相似文献

The effectiveness in discovering errors of symbolic evaluation and of testing sad static program analysis are studied. The three techniques are applied to a diverse collection of programs and the results compared. Symbolic evaluation is used to carry out symbolic testing and to generate symbolic systems of path predicates. The use of the predicates for automated test data selection is analysed. Several conventional types of program testing strategies are evaluated. The strategies include branch testing, structured testing and testing on input values having special properties. The static source analysis techniques that are studied include anomaly analysis and interface analysis. Examples are included which describe typical situations in which one technique is reliable but another unreliable. The effectiveness of symbolic testing is compared with testing on actual data and with the use of an integrated methodology that includes both testing and static source analysis. Situations in which symbolic testing is difficult to apply or not effective are discussed. Different ways in which symbolic evaluation can be used for generating test data are described. Those ways for which it is most effective are isolated. The paper concludes with a discussion of the most effective uses to which symbolic evaluation can he put in an integrated system which contains all three of the validation techniques that are studied.  相似文献

Treatment of isolated DNA with crocidolite and man-made vitreous fibre-21 (MMVF-21) significantly increased the concentration of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in isolated DNA above background levels and co-treatment with glutathione (GSH) eliminated this effect. Crocidolite, MMVF-21 and chrysotile fibres increased the number of revertants in Salmonella typhimurium TA100 and GSH-deficient strains, TA100/NG-54 and TA100/NG-57, over background levels. This increase was small in TA100 but was greater in the GSH-deficient strains. When these bacterial strains were further depleted of GSH by co-culture with buthionine sulfoximine, all fibres tested caused a significant increase in the number of revertants over the parent strains. Pre-treatment with the GSH precursor N-acetyl-L-cysteine reduced the number of revertants to below that of the parent strain. Previous studies have shown a mechanistic role for iron-catalyzed production of oxygen radicals in the mutagenicity of fibres and this study suggests a protective role for GSH against such oxidative damage possibly by acting as a radical scavenger.  相似文献

The water quality of 13 rivers in the lowland, agricultural county of Suffolk is investigated using routine monitoring data for the period 1981 to 2006 collected by the Environment Agency of England and Wales (EA), and its predecessors, with particular emphasis on phosphorus (as total reactive phosphorus, TRP) and total (dissolved and particulate) oxidised nitrogen (TOxN — predominantly nitrate NO3). Major ion and flow data are used to outline fundamental hydrochemical characteristics related to the groundwater provenance of base-flow waters. Relative load contributions from point and diffuse sources are approximated using Load Apportionment Modelling for both TRP and TOxN where concurrent flow and concentration data are available. Analyses indicate a mixture of point and diffuse sources of TRP, with the former being dominant during low flow periods, while for TOxN diffuse sources dominate.Out of 59 sites considered, 53 (90%) were found to have annual average TRP concentrations greater than 0.05 mg P l− 1, and 36 (61%) had average concentrations over 0.120 mg P l− 1, the upper thresholds for ‘High’ and ‘Good’ ecological status, respectively. Correspondingly, for TOxN, most of the rivers are already within 70% of the 11.3 mg N l− 1 threshold, with two rivers (Wang and Ore) being consistently greater than this.It is suggested that the major challenge is to characterise and control point-source TRP inputs which, being predominant during the late spring and summer low-flow period, coincide with the peak of primary biological production, thus presenting the major challenge to achieving ‘good’ ecological status under the Water Framework Directive. Results show that considerable effort is still required to ensure appropriate management and develop tools for decision-support.  相似文献
