Hypersonic flight powered by airbreathing engines offers the potential for faster response time at long ranges, and reduced cost for access-to-space. In the present paper the operating environment of typical hypersonic vehicles are discussed, including results for the radiation equilibrium wall temperature of external vehicle surfaces and the flow properties through three sample engines spanning the range of hydrocarbon-fueled Mach 4-8 flight and hydrogen-fueled flight at speeds up to Mach 17. Flow conditions at several locations through the sample engines were calculated to provide indications of the required operating flow environment. Additional system consideration such a seals, joints, vehicle integration and in-service engineering are addressed.  相似文献

Elder mistreatment, both abuse and neglect, is an important health care problem for women since they are involved as victims and as perpetrators. The incidence of both forms of such mistreatment is increasing, and both often occur within the context of long-term care. Elder abuse occurs in both unidirectional and dual directional forms, and includes parent abuse and spouse abuse. Elder neglect occurs in two forms; neglect by others and self-neglect. While elderly men and women are both neglected and/or abused, women may suffer greater physical and psychological consequences. To date, researchers have inadequately addressed the relevance of gender to both forms of elder mistreatment. This literature review addresses what is currently known about elder abuse and neglect that is of particular relevance to older women.  相似文献

The prevalence of several paraneoplastic syndromes associated with ovarian cancer was determined from a clinicopathological study of 908 patients with primary ovarian malignancy in the North East Thames Region. The diversity and rarity of these manifestations are great and the explanation for them is difficult. Circumstantial evidence suggests that in some cases an autoimmune phenomenon is the most plausible cause.  相似文献

The analysis of genomic DNA fragment patterns has revealed as a powerful tool for strain discrimination in Staphylococcus aureus; for use as an epidemiological marker, stability during the course of an outbreak is an essential prerequisite. Genomic DNA fragment patterns (SmaI restriction, pulsed-field electrophoresis) of four different epidemic MRSA strains were compared along with intra- and interhospital and country-wide spread over more than 12 months in Germany. Strain I was isolated from infections in 8 hospitals. In one hospital a subclone arised which differed from the original strain by 4 fragments. Strain II was spread among 4 hospitals, isolates from three of these hospitals exhibited a variability of one to three fragments in the 150-200 kb range. Two hospitals in the Hannover-area were affected by strain III; in 17 isolates of this strain a variability up to three fragments was found in the 170-200 kb range. Strain IV was isolated from 19 cases of infections in 3 hospitals in Berlin. The fragment patterns were completely stable. When S. aureus strains are typed by genomic DNA fragment patterns, a variability in a definite range of molecular masses during the course of an epidemic should be taken into consideration.  相似文献

Most (98%) of the fat in human milk is present as triglycerides. This paper describes the use of a clarification procedure that enables the level of human milk fat to be determined by measurement of glycerol released by enzymic hydrolysis of triglycerides. The method requires only 10-50 microliters milk, thus presenting a possible technique for work with small mammals, and is suitable for use with autoanalysers, permitting rapid sample throughput.  相似文献

Microglial activity in the aging neuroimmune system is a central player in aging-related dysfunction. Aging alters microglial function via shifts in protein signaling cascades. These shifts can propagate neurodegenerative pathology. Therapeutics require a multifaceted approach to understand and address the stochastic nature of this process. Polyphenols offer one such means of rectifying age-related decline. Our group used mass spectrometry (MS) analysis to explicate the complex nature of these aging microglial pathways. In our first experiment, we compared primary microglia isolated from young and aged rats and identified 197 significantly differentially expressed proteins between these groups. Then, we performed bioinformatic analysis to explore differences in canonical signaling cascades related to microglial homeostasis and function with age. In a second experiment, we investigated changes to these pathways in aged animals after 30-day dietary supplementation with NT-020, which is a blend of polyphenols. We identified 144 differentially expressed proteins between the NT-020 group and the control diet group via MS analysis. Bioinformatic analysis predicted an NT-020 driven reversal in the upregulation of age-related canonical pathways that control inflammation, cellular metabolism, and proteostasis. Our results highlight salient aspects of microglial aging at the level of protein interactions and demonstrate a potential role of polyphenols as therapeutics for age-associated dysfunction.  相似文献

Cotton fabric has been treated with a fibre-reactive chitosan derivative containing quaternary ammonium groups, O -acrylamidomethyl- N -[(2-hydroxy-3-trimethylammonium)propyl]chitosan chloride (NMA-HTCC). Cotton treated with NMA-HTCC has been dyed with direct and reactive dyes without the addition of salt. The colour yield was higher than that on untreated cotton, despite the addition of a large amount salt in the latter case. After dyeing, cotton treated with NMA-HTCC gave better wash fastness than the untreated cotton. The light fastness was however inferior to that on untreated cotton. The antimicrobial activity of cotton treated with NMA-HTCC against Staphylococcus aureus was considerably lower after dyeing, probably due to the antimicrobial effect of the cationic group on NMA-HTCC being blocked by its combination with the anionic dye.  相似文献

The influence of toughener and clay concentration on the morphology and mechanical properties of three-phase, rubber-modified epoxy nanocomposites was studied. Nanocomposite samples were prepared by adding octadecyl ammonium ion exchanged clay to a dispersion of pre-formed acrylic rubber particles in liquid epoxy, so as to minimize alteration to the rubber morphology in the final cured specimen. The state of clay platelet exfoliation and rubber dispersion in the cured nanocomposites was studied using transmission electron microscopy. The amounts of clay platelet separation and dispersion of clay aggregates in the epoxy matrix were found to be sensitive to clay and toughener concentration, and clay platelets preferentially adsorb to the rubber particles. Tensile modulus and strength increase and ductility decreases with increasing organoclay content, while rubber has the opposite effects on the properties of epoxy resin. When both additives are present in epoxy resin, a favorable combination is produced: ductility is enhanced without compromising modulus and strength. Modulus and strength are improved by nano and micro dispersion of nanoclay in the epoxy matrix, whereas elongation and toughness are improved by clay adsorption to the rubber particle surface, which promotes cavitation. The glass transition temperature of epoxy resin remains relatively unchanged with clay addition.  相似文献

Stearic acid is one of five major fatty acids found in soybean oil. It is a fully saturated lipid and is known for neutral or positive effects on LDL cholesterol when consumed by humans. Unfortunately, stearic acid only accounts for about 4% of the total seed oil produced in commodity soybean. Previous work has shown that stearic acid can reach levels as high as 28% of the total oil fraction when the SACPD-C gene, encoding the delta-9-stearoyl-acyl carrier protein desaturase responsible for most of the stearic acid variation in soybean seed, is ablated in combination with other loci. In order to increase stearic acid content and create soybeans with improved utility based on fatty acid composition, we combined mutations in SACPD-C with other mutations in the fatty acid biosynthetic pathway. Soybean plants carrying mutant alleles of both SACPD-C and FAD2-1A produce seed with stearic acid levels from 14% to 21%, and with elevated levels of oleic acid. Soybeans carrying mutations in both SACPD-C and FAD3A or FAD3C have both statistically significantly elevated levels of stearic acid (from 15–21%) and statistically reduced linolenic acid levels. Neither mutant combination appears to affect other agronomic properties such as plant morphology or seed protein levels making this a potentially viable trait.  相似文献
