The Chained-Cubic Tree (CCT) interconnection network topology was recently proposed as a continuation for the extended efforts in the area of interconnection networks’ performance improvement. This topology, which promises to exhibit the best properties of the hypercube and tree topologies, needs to be deeply investigated in order to evaluate its performance among other interconnection networks’ topologies. This work comes as a complementary effort, in which the load balancing technique is investigated as one of the most important aspects of performance improvement. This paper proposes a new load balancing algorithm on CCT interconnection networks. The proposed algorithm, which is called Hybrid Dynamic Parallel Scheduling Algorithm (HD-PSA), is a combination of two common load balancing strategies; dynamic load balancing and parallel scheduling. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated both, analytically and experimentally, in terms of various performance metrics; including, execution time, load balancing accuracy, communication cost, number of tasks hops, and tasks locality.  相似文献

In this project the use of natural media filtration (NMF) was evaluated for its ability to remove colloidal particles from the aqueous phase as a function of ionic strength and filter media type by determining first-order kinetic deposition rate coefficients. Mushroom compost (MC) and leaf compost (LC) were tested as natural filter media and the results were compared to those obtained using sand and granular activated carbon (GAC). The highest deposition rate coefficients were observed for GAC, followed by LC and MC, and the lowest deposition rate coefficients were found for sand. As predicted by the Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek theory, higher deposition rates were obtained at higher solution ionic strengths. Overall the experiments suggest that the NMF process can efficiently remove colloidal particles from surface waters.  相似文献

Thirty Listeria monocytogenes isolates from human patients and foods originated from two different geographic locations without any epidemiological relations were analyzed for their genotypic and phenotypic virulence gene expressions and genetic relatedness. All strains contained virulence genes, inlA, inlB, actA, hlyA, plcA and plcB, with expected product size in PCR assay except for the actA gene. Some strains produced actA gene product of 268 and others 385 bp. Phenotypically, all were hemolytic but showed variable expressions of phospholipase activity. Ribotyping classified isolates into 12 different groups based on the similarity to DuPont Identification numbers (DID), which consisted primarily of clinical or food isolates or both. Cluster analysis also indicated possible existence of clones of L. monocytogenes that are found in food or human hosts or are evenly distributed between these two. Two isolates (F1 from food and CHL1250 from patient) had unique ribotype patterns that were not previously reported in the RiboPrinter database. This study indicates distribution of diverse L. monocytogenes strains in clinical and food environments. The isolates showed 92-99% genetic homogeneity, in spite of their origins from two different geographic locations and environments.  相似文献

Over the past few years, there has been a growing demand to develop efficient precision mechanisms for fine moving applications. Therefore, several piezoelectric driven mechanisms have been proposed for such applications. In this work an optimal synthesis of a four-bar mechanism with three PEAs is proposed. Two evolutionary multi-objective Genetic Algorithms (GAs) are formulated and applied; A Genetic Algorithm Synthesis method (GAS) is first used to obtain a synthesis solution for the mechanism regardless of power consumption. Then another Genetic Algorithm Minimum Power Synthesis method (GAMPS) is used to obtain the synthesis solution of minimum power consumption. For that purpose, the study performs simulation investigation of the aforementioned algorithms for each point along sinusoidal and kidney shaped paths of motion. Results show capability of both methods in obtaining a synthesis solution. However, GAMPS outperformed GAS in terms of driving power consumption as it is minimized by 99% ratio.  相似文献

This work investigates the performance of a hybrid population-based meta-heuristic with an external memory structure of a hybrid elitist-ant system (elitist-AS). This memory is known as an elite pool, which contains high quality and diverse solutions to maintain a balance between diversity and quality of the search. This may guarantee the effectiveness and efficiency of the search, which could enhance the performance of the algorithm across different instances. A very well known and intensively studied NP-hard optimization problem has been selected to test the performance of the hybrid elitist-AS via its consistency, effectiveness and efficiency. This famous problem is the symmetric traveling salesman problem. The elitist-AS is a class of ant colony optimization techniques which are known to be outstanding for the traveling salesman problem where they have the ability to find the shortest tours guided by the heuristic and the pheromone trail information. An iterated local search is combined with elitist-AS to intensify the search around elite solution and maintains the solution’s exploitation mechanism. Experimental results showed that the performance, compared to the best known results, is optimal for many instances. This finding indicates the effectiveness, efficiency and consistency in diversifying the search while intensifying high-quality solutions. This outstanding performance is due to the utilization of an elite pool along with diversification and intensification mechanisms. In addition, this work proposes two instances that consist of 26 Jordanian cities and 1094 Jordanian locations which have been generated based on coordinates and distances similar to the format of the selected symmetric traveling salesman problem. This step is meant to contribute to finding a solution for a real-world problem and further test the performance of the hybrid elitist-AS.

Cronobacter sakazakii is an emerging foodborne pathogen that has been implicated in severe forms of meningitis, septicemia or necrotizing colitis in pre-term neonates. Although illness outbreaks (primarily associated with powdered infant formula, PIF) caused by this pathogen are rare, the case-fatality rate may reach 50%. Successful treatment of C. sakazakii infection is reliant upon clinical use of antibiotics (AB) such as ampicillin. Recent reports showed increased resistance of C. sakazakii to broad-spectrum antibiotics. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of extreme pH (3.5 for 30 min or 11.25 for 5 min), cold (4 °C for 24 h), heat (55 °C for 5 min), and desiccation (cells were dried at 40 °C for 2 h and held at 21 °C for 4 d) stresses on susceptibility of five isolated strains of C. sakazakii to streptomycin, gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin, tetracycline, doxycycline, tilmicosin, florfenicol, ampicillin, amoxicillin, vancomycin, ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin. All unstressed strains of C. sakazakii were sensitive to streptomycin, gentamycin, kanamycin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ampicillin and amoxicillin, but were moderately resistant or resistant to the rest. Exposing cells to alkaline or acidic stress did not change their sensitivity toward streptomycin, gentamycin, kanamycin or ciprofloxacin, but their resistance toward the other AB was increased. Cells stressed by desiccation showed increased sensitivity toward streptomycin, gentamicin, kanamycin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ampicillin and doxycycline, but showed resistance toward the others. Cold-stressed cells were more sensitive to streptomycin, gentamicin, kanamycin, and ciprofloxacin compared with heat-stressed cells, but both heat and cold-stressed cells showed increased resistance toward all the other AB. Results obtained will help in understanding the effect of environmental stresses during processing on C. sakazakii susceptibility to AB.  相似文献

The present study was conducted on a pilot scale level using a solar still unit to separate olive mill wastewater (OMW) into condensate and solid residue. The prevailing conditions inside the solar still, rates of distillation and a number of quality parameters for condensate [pH, electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN) and total‐phenols] were evaluated to assess the system performance. The solid residue was evaluated as well for its utility as a potential biofuel. The condensate is acidic (pH 3.8), colourless, transparent and free of suspended solids. The turbidity and EC were reduced in the condensate by 100 and 99%, respectively, while the loads of COD, TOC, TN and T‐phenols were reduced by 90, 98, 99.9 and 99.96%, respectively. Almost 0.04% of initial total phenols found in OMW were recovered in the condensate. High calorific value (23.5 kJ/g) and combustible portion (84%) of solid residue suggests its applicability as a potential biofuel  相似文献

This work presents a new micro-positioning system that is implemented in an inchworm robot to move into desired locations. The system consists of four-bar mechanism; one link is fixed, and each one of the remaining links carries a piezoelectric actuator (PZT). PZTs are specifically chosen since they provide fast response and small displacements; up to ±30 µm for ±100 Volts. The system’s mathematical model is derived and is numerically simulated by MATLAB. Three fuzzy PI controllers, which are tuned automatically by genetic algorithm, are designed to control the system. Results indicate an error of less than 1% although disturbances present.  相似文献

The major challenge in liquid sustained-release oral suspensions is to minimize drug diffusion into the suspending medium and to retain the original properties of the microparticles during storage. Diclofenac wax microspheres prepared by the hydrophobic congealable disperse phase method were formulated as a sustained release suspension and stored at three different temperatures (25, 37 and 45 degrees C) for 3 months, to evaluate the physical and chemical stability of the suspended microspheres. Suspensions of microspheres stored at ambient temperatures were both physically and chemically stable, but at higher temperatures, up to 45 degrees C, there was a decrease in drug release due to scaling and melting on the microsphere surface as observed by scanning electron microscopy. However, on prolonged storage, up to 90 days, especially at 45 degrees C, temperature became a dominant factor causing an increase in drug release. The suspension of diclofenac microspheres was chemically stable for 3 months, while the plain drug suspension exhibited slight degradation.  相似文献
