This study analyzes the development of percentages knowledge by seventh graders given a sequence of activities starting with a realistic modeling task, in which students were expected to create a model that would facilitate the reinvention of percentages. In the first two activities, students constructed their own pricing model using fractions and then extended the model while experiencing reinvention and extension of their knowledge of percentages. In the last two activities, they coped with a realistic changing reference situation. A control group used a traditional instructional unit. A pretest and two posttests showed between-group differences.  相似文献

Poorly soluble drugs constitute more than 60% of currently marketed pharmaceuticals with over two-thirds of promising new chemical entities failing to enter a clinical setting due to solubility issues. Although oral formulations have made some impact, alternative enhancement strategies for administration of such molecules are actively sought. Over the last decade, innovation on a global scale has enabled the expansion of the frontiers of microarray patches (MAPs) further than ever before. Initially designed to load low doses of hydrophilic and potent therapeutic agents, MAPs are now becoming a viable strategy for the immediate and long-acting delivery of poorly soluble drugs through the skin. This together with the advantages of transdermal administration over the oral and parenteral routes, make of MAPs an appealing platform for the development of products with increased patient compliance. Undoubtedly, MAPs will soon become a readily available therapeutic alternative, and experts from academia, industry and regulatory bodies are working together aiming to facilitate the progression of MAPs toward safe and effective clinical use. This review aims to highlight the ability of MAPs to deliver poorly soluble actives, discuss the mechanisms behind in-skin drug absorption, and evaluate the future direction of the field.  相似文献

We propose two procedures to extract information about the trapping processes that occur in organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) that exhibit both contact and hysteresis effects. In particular, the variation of trapped charge during hysteresis cycles is determined by the separate analysis of current–voltage curves for the intrinsic transistor and for the contact region. The extraction of these curves is done with the help of our previous compact model that reproduces the current–voltage characteristics of OTFTs with contact effects. The model is used to fit experimental output characteristics with hysteresis and to extract the parameters of the model, such as the mobility and the threshold voltage. The variation of the threshold voltage with trapped charges during voltage cycling and using existing transistor models results in different sets of parameters needed to reproduce the experimental data. However, not all these parameters have proper physical meanings. In order to find a unique physical solution, the current–voltage curves of the contacts and current–voltage curves of the intrinsic transistor, extracted from the output characteristics measured at the transistor terminals, are separately analyzed. The study of the evolution with the gate voltage of the free-charge density in the contact allows for finding this unique solution. The results of this method are compared with published results that use more elaborate experimental techniques, such as the four-terminal method or transient experiments.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Recurrent caries is one of the most common reasons for the replacement of restorations. One method of reducing the frequency of this problem may be by using fluoride-releasing restorative materials. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the progression of artificial lesions around resin-modified glass ionomer (Vitremer) restorations placed in root surfaces. Class V cavities were prepared on the mesial and distal surfaces of 28 human premolar teeth. Artificial carious wall lesions were created in all cavities. The root of each tooth was then hemisected through the middle of the two cavities, before being restored with either the glass ionomer or amalgam, while the opposing cavities on the same root portion were varnished as negative controls. Forty-eight specimens were pH-cycled in remineralising and demineralising solutions for 20 h and 4 h, respectively, each day for 4 weeks, whilst in a smaller control group of eight specimens, the demineralising solution was replaced with deionised water. Mineral changes in the carious lesions were evaluated using contact microradiography. RESULTS: Results showed that varying degrees of subsurface demineralisation and remineralisation were evident, with a laminated appearance in lesions adjacent to the glass ionomer. There was higher remineralisation in the glass ionomer-filled cavities compared with the amalgam-filled cavities. In the water-cycled group, glass ionomer showed an increase in mineral content (p < 0.05), while no changes were observed in the amalgam-filled cavities. CONCLUSIONS: This model has shown that glass ionomer has a greater potential than amalgam for remineralisation of artificially created wall lesions within an acidic environment.  相似文献

MgB2 thin films were fabricated on MgO (100) single crystal substrates. First, deposition of boron was performed by rf magnetron sputtering on MgO substrates and followed by a post deposition annealing at 850?°C in magnesium vapor. In order to investigate the effect of FeO nanoparticles on magnetic properties of MgB2 thin films, the films were coated with different concentrations of FeO nanoparticles by spin coating process. The magnetic field dependence of the critical current density $J_{\mathrm{c}}$ was calculated from the M?CH loops and also magnetic field dependence of the pinning force density $f_{\mathrm{p}}(b)$ was determined for the films containing different concentrations of FeO nanoparticles. The values of the critical current density $J_{\mathrm{c}}$ in zero field at 5?K was found to be around 1×106?A/cm2 for pure MgB2 film, 1.4×106 for MgB2 film coated with 25?%, 7.2×105 for MgB2 film coated with 33?%, 9.1×105 for MgB2 film coated with 50?% and 1.1×106?A/cm2 for MgB2 film coated with 100?%. It?was?found that the film coated with 25?% FeO nanoparticles has slightly enhanced critical current density and it can be noted that especially the film coated with 25?% FeO became stronger in the magnetic field. The films coated with FeO were successfully produced and they indicated the presence of artificial pinning centers created by FeO nanoparticles. The superconducting transition temperature of the film coated with 25?% FeO nanoparticles was determined by moment?Ctemperature (M?CT) measurement to be 34?K which is 4?K higher than that of the pure film.  相似文献

Abstract

The present study follows earlier research on fraction unit conception in learning decimals and shows that children with this difficulty also exhibit a similar problem in fractions. Specifically, the focus on the fraction unit observed in decimals (e.g., evaluating 0.4 as larger than 0.68 because tenths are larger than hundredths) is preceded by a similar deficient coordination between the size of the fraction unit and the number of units in determining fraction value. Approximately three quarters of 59 students in seventh and eighth grades identified as having a fraction unit conception in decimals were also identified as having a similar fraction unit focus in fractions. The impact of fraction knowledge was further demonstrated by showing that “changing the past” through meaningful instruction in fractions affected the “present” and transferred to decimals.  相似文献

Evaluations of 4 soybean meal (SBM) products were conducted in 3 experiments. The 4 products were 1) solvent SBM (SSBM), 2) SSBM treated with 0.05% baker's yeast and toasted at 100°C (YSBM), 3) expeller SBM (ESBM), and 4) lignosulfonate-treated SBM (LSBM). Multiparous Holstein cows (n = 32; 152 ± 63 d in milk; body weight = 708 ± 77 kg; producing 41 ± 7 kg/d of milk at the beginning of the study) were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design with 28-d periods to investigate cow responsiveness to supplemental ruminally undegradable protein (RUP) from the SBM products. Dietary treatments were formulated by substituting all of the SSBM and part of the ground corn with YSBM, ESBM, or LSBM to yield isonitrogenous diets. Diets were formulated to provide adequate ruminally degradable protein, but deficient RUP and metabolizable protein supplies. No differences among dietary treatments were observed for dry matter intake, body weight gain, milk and component yields, or efficiency of milk production. The lack of response to changes in SBM source was likely due to an adequate RUP and metabolizable protein supply by all the diets. In situ ruminal degradations of YSBM and LSBM were slower than those of SSBM or ESBM; thus, RUP contents of YSBM and LSBM were greater than those of SSBM or ESBM. The RUP of all SBM products had similar small intestinal digestibility. Available Lys contents, estimated chemically or by using a chick growth assay, were less for YSBM and LSBM than for SSBM or ESBM, suggesting deleterious effects of processing on Lys availability in YSBM and LSBM.  相似文献
