Removal by absorptive ceramic membranes can simultaneously absorb and separate metal ions from water. Alumina/yttria‐stabilized zirconia (Al2O3/YSZ) hollow‐fiber membranes, fabricated using phase inversion and sintering process, were deposited with iron oxide by an in‐situ hydrothermal process. The results showed that α‐Fe2O3 was produced and incorporated across the membranes. A reduction in flux was recorded with the deposition of α‐Fe2O3. However, it improved the adsorption capacity for heavy metal adsorption. The adsorption‐separation test demonstrated that the optimized membrane is able to completely remove Pb(II) ions after two hours.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to fabricate dual‐layer hollow fiber as a microreactor for potential syngas production via phase inversion‐based co‐extrusion/cosintering process. As the main challenge of phase inversion is the difficulty to obtain defect‐free fiber, this work focuses on the effect of the fabrication parameters, that is, nonsolvent content, sintering temperature and outer‐layer extrusion rate, on the macrostructure of the produced hollow fiber. SEM images confirm that the addition of nonsolvent has successfully minimized the finger‐like formation. At high sintering temperature, more dense hollow fiber was formed while outer‐layer extrusion rate affects the outer layer thickness.  相似文献

Seasonal and between stream variation (catchment dependent variation) in losses of organic and inorganic carbon via downstream transport and outgassing of CO2 into the atmosphere were studied in 11 small boreal catchments situated in close proximity to each other. Of these catchments four were undrained peatland rich catchments, four drained peatland rich catchments and three managed mineral soil-dominated catchments. Downstream export of total inorganic carbon (TIC) varied between 870 and 1400 kg km− 2 a− 1 and was rather consistent between the catchments, except in the case of the mineral soil-dominated catchment Kangaslampi, where export was only 420 kg km− 2 a− 1. The export of total organic carbon (TOC) varied between 2300 and 14,800 kg km− 2 a− 1 and was highest in peatland rich catchments. Peatland drainage decreased TIC and TOC concentrations in the long term, but did not affect lateral carbon export due to increased runoff from the catchments. Partial pressure of CO2 in streams was the highest in undrained peatland rich catchments, but the outgassing of CO2 into the atmosphere was also high from drained peatlands due to the higher discharge rate and long ditch networks. In mineral soil-dominated catchments both downstream export of carbon and emission into the atmosphere were low. TOC exports were compared in two climatically different years (2003 and 2007). The results indicate that climate change might alter the timing of the TOC export from the catchments, the importance of the spring ice melt diminishing and both snow cover and snow free period export increasing.  相似文献

In this study, the phase inversion-based co-extrusion method was employed to fabricate a structural-improved electrolyte/anode dual-layer hollow fiber (HF) precursor, which was then co-sintered at 1450 °C. The electrolyte structures were thoroughly investigated by varying the loading of electrolyte material (i.e. Yttria-stabilized zirconia, YSZ) with differing particle sizes (i.e. micron, sub-micron, and nano-sized) during suspension preparation. The results showed that the most promising electrolyte layer with thin, dense, gas-tight, and defect-free properties was obtained by mixing 70% submicron-YSZ and 30% nano-YSZ in electrolyte suspension (E-0.7sub0.3nano). This electrolyte formulation co-extruded with a thick nickel-oxide-YSZ (NiO-YSZ) anode layer yielded the highest bending strength of 85 MPa, providing major mechanical strength to the HF. Besides that, the nitrogen permeability value at 2.87 × 10?6 mol m?2 s?1 Pa?1 suggested that the electrolyte was gas-tight, preventing fuel and oxidant transport. The fiber was then reduced to nickel (Ni)-cermet anode. It was developed to be a complete micro-tubular solid oxide fuel cell (MT-SOFC) by depositing the lanthanum strontium cobalt ferrite (LSCF)/YSZ cathode via brush painting on the dual-layer HF. The cell was fed with hydrogen gas and yielded an open-circuit voltage (OCV) as high as 1.06 V with maximum power density of 0.243 W cm?2, at 875 °C. Based on this test, it was found that the electrolyte structural-modified dual-layer hollow fiber-based MT-SOFC using mixed particle sizes may result in a promising OCV. However, the relatively low value for power density may be due to a less porous anode; thus, improvements in the anode's structure are required in future research.  相似文献

An environmental friendly regenerated cellulose membrane (RCM) was successfully prepared via NaOH/urea aqueous solution system by utilizing recycled newspaper (RNP) as the cellulose source. The morphological and chemical structure of resulting membrane were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results from FTIR and XRD verified that the transparent RCM possesses cellulose II structure. SEM observation revealed that the transparent RCM consist of homogeneous dense symmetric membrane structure and composed of a skin layer with mean roughness parameter Ra, obtained from AFM analysis of 29.53 nm. Pure water flux, water content, water contact angle, porosity, and pore size of the resulting membrane were also measured. This study promotes the potential of the cellulose‐based membrane obtained from low cost cellulose source for application in filtration and separation system. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. When testing copolymers of ethylene and aryl‐substituted norbornenes with the Charpy impact method it was found that under certain polymerization conditions their impact properties increased with increasing polymerization time. It was also found that this improvement on impact properties was due to increasing exo/endo ratios of the incorporated aryl‐substituted norbornene comonomers. This effect is important because impact‐resistant copolymers can be made using aryl‐substituted norbornene comonomers with low exo/endo ratios, which are more easily synthesized and purified. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ceramic hollow fiber membranes (CHFMs) are known for their excellent characteristics including high surface area, compact design, and good chemical, thermal, and mechanical stabilities. Despite these interesting attributes, CHFMs are also prone to certain limitations, such as brittleness and high cost that hinder them from being commercialized. To mitigate this drawback, we have developed a high strength, porous ceramic hollow fiber membrane, derived from mullite–kaolinite powder, for efficient oil–wastewater separation. The superhydrophilic, low-cost mullite-based (CHFM) was successfully fabricated through combined phase inversion and sintering techniques. Prior to the fabrication, the as-received mullite–kaolinite was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyses. Subsequently, operational parameters such as the effect of mullite content, sintering temperature, and air gap were optimized during the fabrication of mullite ceramic hollow fiber membrane. The resulting membranes were systematically characterized and evaluated in terms of morphology, porosity, mechanical strength, water flux, and oil–water separation. Increasing the mullite content, air gap, and sintering temperature enhanced the formation of microvoid structure. It is interesting to note that the mechanical strength of 86 MPa was obtained for the membrane containing 60 wt % of mullite sintered at 1450 °C and an air gap of 5 cm. The membrane induced a stable permeate water flux and oil rejection of mullite CHFM of 182 L/m2?h and 97.1%, respectively. As compared to kaolin ceramic counterparts, this porous mullite ceramic hollow fiber membrane can be used in various water treatment applications, including for the separation of oily wastewater due to its mechanical strength and water flux.  相似文献

To address the impediments of low power generation of Nafion, which is the main hurdle in the commercialization of microbial fuel cells (MFC), the current study focuses on developing a new PEM for MFC from mild sulfonation of PEKEKK with relatively improved physiochemical properties. In this study, mild post sulfonation of a polyether ketone ether ketone ketone (PEKEKK) has been successfully achieved using 98% H2SO4 at 90°C under reflux. 5%–30% (wt%) of sulfonated PEKEKK (SPEKEKK) loaded polysulfone (PSU) composite membranes were fabricated via a solution casting method. Ingeminating evidence of the sulfonation and structure of sulfonated polymer was proved by 1H NMR peaks integration data and FTIR, respectively. The addition of SPEKEKK to PSU showed significant improvement in conductivity owing to the availability of more protonated sites ( SO3H) and water mediated pathways for the conduction of protons. The composite membrane containing 30 wt% SPEKEKK exhibits the highest conductivity of 0.12 S/cm at 90°C. The water uptakes and swelling ratio of the composite membranes are all higher than that of the pristine PSU membrane and show an increasing trend with increasing SPEKEKK content, thus validating the availability of water domains. Meanwhile, the lowest initial decomposition temperatures assigned to sulfonic acid groups and main chain degradation of the polysulfone/polyether ketone ether ketone ketone (PSU/SPEKEKK) composite membranes occurred at ~300°C and ~500°C respectively, which reflects an excellent thermal stability property. The experimental results indicate that the PSU/SPEKEKK membrane has the potential to greatly enhance the efficiency of MFCs.  相似文献

Two Gunn oscillators, conventional intermediate frequency building blocks, and a modified GaAs diode detector are combined to form a portable monostatic 10 ns instrumentation radar for outdoor K(a)-band radar cross section measurements. At 37.8 GHz the radar gives +20 dBm output power and its tangential sensitivity is -76 dBm. Processing bandwidth is 125 MHz, which also allows for some frequency drift in the Gunn devices. Intra-pulse frequency chirp is less than 15 MHz. All functions are steered by a microcontroller. First measurements convince that the construction has a reasonable ability to reduce close-to-ground surface clutter and gives an effective way of resolving target detail. This is beneficial especially when amplitude fluctuations disturb measurements with longer pulses. The new unit operates on 12 V dc, draws a current of less than 3 A, and weighs 5 kg.  相似文献
