Thick film technology was used to manufacture a solid-state electrochemical nitrogen dioxide sensor. The prepared sensor
has a linear dependence of electromotive force that is based in the NO2 concentration level. This paper presents discussion on a thick-film sensor that has a much smaller dimension and shorter

Expression of the neural cell adhesion molecule, NCAM, in frozen sections has been associated with decreased postoperative survival in non-small cell lung carcinoma. Of the various isoforms of NCAM described, the highly sialylated isoform plays a role in the migration of embryonal cells from the neural crest and is expressed by highly malignant tumours such as small cell lung carcinomas. We investigated the clinical significance of expression of this NCAM isoform as a prognostic factor in a series of 96 non-small cell lung carcinomas resected with curative intent. We also evaluated the effect of microwave pre-treatment of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections on the NCAM immunostaining and related the outcome to the postoperative clinical course of disease. In addition, in an attempt to extend our search for possible molecular markers of unfavourable prognosis in lung cancer, we evaluated increased immunostaining for p53 and cyclin D1 in the same series. We did not find a significant relation between expression of NCAM or its highly sialylated isoform and the length of postoperative survival. The numbers of positive cases (9 and 14, respectively) were relatively low. Increased p53 and cyclin D1 immunostaining (50 and 55 of the 96 tumours) failed to show a significant relation with postoperative survival. Carnivorous plants are exemplary natural sources of secondary metabolites with biological activity. However, the therapeutic antimicrobial potential of these compounds is limited due to intrinsic resistance of selected bacterial pathogens, among which Pseudomonas aeruginosa represents an extreme example. The objective of the study was to overcome the intrinsic resistance of P. aeruginosa by combining silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with secondary metabolites from selected carnivorous plant species. We employed the broth microdilution method, the checkerboard titration technique and comprehensive phytochemical analyses to define interactions between nanoparticles and active compounds from carnivorous plants. It has been confirmed that P. aeruginosa is resistant to a broad range of secondary metabolites from carnivorous plants, i.e., naphthoquinones, flavonoids, phenolic acids (MBC = 512 µg mL−1) and only weakly sensitive to their mixtures, i.e., extracts and extracts’ fractions. However, it was shown that the antimicrobial activity of extracts and fractions with a significant level of naphthoquinone (plumbagin) was significantly enhanced by AgNPs. Our studies clearly demonstrated a crucial role of naphthoquinones in AgNPs and extract interaction, as well as depicted the potential of AgNPs to restore the bactericidal activity of naphthoquinones towards P. aeruginosa. Our findings indicate the significant potential of nanoparticles to modulate the activity of selected secondary metabolites and revisit their antimicrobial potential towards human pathogenic bacteria. 相似文献

A hybrid high-speed machining centre headstock model based on two computation methods: the finite element method and the finite difference method is presented. The model allows one to calculate precisely the headstock's indices on the basis of which its optimal operating characteristics can be determined. The presented modelling methods allow one to evaluate a design from thermal, stiffness and durability points of view. By way of illustration, the behaviour of three machining centre headstocks with: an electrospindle on rolling bearings, a conventional spindle and an electrospindle on aerostatic bearings are modelled using the hybrid model. 相似文献

Introduction: The aim of this study was to analyze the selected psychosocial aspects of chronic kidney disease in children treated with hemodialysis (HD). Methods: The study included 25 children treated with HD aged 2 to 18 years and their parents. Data concerning the illness and socio‐demographic parameters was collected. We used the Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) for patients and for their parents the PedsQL‐proxy version, General Health Questionnaire (GHQ‐12), Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS), and the Caregivers Burden Scale (CBS) to evaluate health‐related quality of life (QoL) of HD children and their primary caregivers. Findings: In the PedsQL test, the QoL of HD children was lower than in healthy children. Children treated with HD assessed their QoL on the PedsQL questionnaire higher than the primary caregivers, on all subscales as well as an overall health‐related QoL. Scoring below 2 on the GHQ‐12 test was reported in 56% of mothers, which may indicate that psychological symptoms have intensified. There was no correlation between BSSS, CBS, and GHQ‐12. Discussion: The assessment of QoL in pediatric patients would allow for the earliest possible identification of their nonsomatic problems and irregularities. This could, consequently, contribute to improving QoL in both children with chronic kidney disease and their families. 相似文献

Abstract The success of the testing of volatile organic compounds emitted by animals is dependent on the creation of appropriate conditions for air sampling subsequently used to assay and identify the compounds. These conditions play a particularly important role in the investigation of pheromones, which are secreted in extremely low concentrations. The authors have not come across any previous work which offers constructional solutions, which would allow avoidance of contamination of the air samples containing volatile substances secreted by animals. A constructional solution was developed, which provides optimal conditions for their sampling and isolation. Its main advantages are as follows: the exposure chamber (the chamber in which the animal is studied) is filled with synthetic air; the exposure chamber is separated from the atmospheric air with a synthetic air “jacket”; the exposure chamber has been constructed using materials which do not release chemicals and absorb them in trace quantities. 相似文献
